Quality loss for the #4 team
November 6th, 2021 at 12:31 AM ^
I was thinking this hurts Oregon too.

This game has the most effect on whichever narrative best suits this year’s version of the CFP committee. In other words, the Cincinnati Bearcats are screwed, because this shows how deep the power five is. Any outcome can be used to screw a group of five team, Any.
November 6th, 2021 at 6:34 AM ^
Why do people care about Cincinnati? Why isn't Wake Forest getting the same love? They are actually an undefeated power 5 team, but no one seems to be shouting about them being screwed.
November 6th, 2021 at 7:47 AM ^
I don’t care about either team, but at least Cincinnati has an 11 point road win against 8th ranked Notre Dame. Cincy’s strength of schedule is ranked 42nd to Wake’s 54. Outside of one 7 point victory over Navy, Cincy has been crushing fools. Wake has 3 point victories over Syracuse and Louisville. Wake will get more respect if they beat UNC, NC State and Clemson. As it stands, though, there’s not a top 25 team on their schedule. They’re a power 5 team in name only.
By the way, Cincy also beat healthy Indiana by 14. MSU beat a beaten down Indiana by 5 because of a pick-6.

Nice facts Teeba, you answered Devon’s question for me
November 6th, 2021 at 11:38 AM ^
Cincinnati struggled with Indiana. They were losing until the 4th qtr. Indiana had a 71 yard drive going in the 4th, and fumbled on the 4. Then on their next drive Penix threw and interception that was returned to the 6, and was an easy score from there for Cincinnati. Indiana outgained Cincinnati.
In 2 other games, Cincinnati struggled with Murray St and Tulane, and only pulled away in the 4th qtr.
Against Notre Dame there was an interception by Cincy in the 2nd qtr that they returned all the way to the 8. That play was probably the difference in the game. Cincy is close to the equal of Notre Dame who is ranked 10th. That's about where I think Cincy should be ranked, probably 9th.
November 6th, 2021 at 12:47 AM ^
38 points without a TD pass, all five scores have come on the ground.
November 6th, 2021 at 12:50 AM ^
That hits deep…
November 6th, 2021 at 12:52 AM ^
Games like this should illustrate how bad of an idea it is to fire Harbaugh.
November 6th, 2021 at 6:11 AM ^
I'm not in the 'Fire Harbaugh' camp, but this game does no such thing. This game is akin to our games against WMU or NIU, where we ran against overmatched opponents. Like a Don Brown defense, it looks amazing against lesser talented opponents, but comes back down to earth when played against quality teams. We definitely need Cade, JJ, and the rest of the passing offense to keep coming along.
November 6th, 2021 at 6:20 AM ^
You do remember that Harbaugh was the previous Stanford coach, right?
November 6th, 2021 at 7:54 AM ^
Yeah...
Did something go over my head?
November 6th, 2021 at 8:18 AM ^
Not sure what this version of Stanford has to do with Harbaugh. It's 11 years removed - there is no trace left that JH coached Stanford. David Shaw is so far removed from Jim's shadow - he's his own coach, with his own team, organization, and style fully embedded into Stanford football.
November 6th, 2021 at 10:06 AM ^
Fair points Va, probably supports what victors is thinking as well
November 6th, 2021 at 11:12 AM ^
Dude, sometimes I don't know what I'm thinking. And they're my thoughts.
Here though, I'm thinking being a one trick pony is eventually going to bring us a lot of disappointment. I LOVE our running game, but we need to hit our foes where they ain't because they are going to be loading up the box. I'm also fairly sure the rest of our opponents will defend the run better than Stanford did, omg SOMEBODY didn't show up for that game...
November 6th, 2021 at 10:42 AM ^
I am pro-Harbaugh but don't really see the relevance here. It's been a decade since he left Stanford and Shaw, overall, has done well there (93-42).
November 6th, 2021 at 12:52 AM ^
Was that hole right up the middle about 8 yards wide?
November 6th, 2021 at 12:55 AM ^
Their 3rd leading rusher is 20 yards from 100. The 2nd leading rusher is 4 yards away.
November 6th, 2021 at 1:09 AM ^
I am also watching this.
November 6th, 2021 at 1:17 AM ^
Woof. Stanford isn't what it used to be. Who was their coach again? Quirky dude... doesn't eat nervous birds.
Whenever I see their scores I remember jogging by the stadium when I went there and the smell of eucalyptus.
November 6th, 2021 at 7:55 AM ^
Eucalyptus?
Sounds like a destination for RGard to send Mean Joe on a permanent vacation.
November 6th, 2021 at 11:31 AM ^
Nope, Deimos. Elon promised he'd drop off Mean Joe on the way to Mars.
November 6th, 2021 at 6:37 AM ^
Fuck Stanford
November 6th, 2021 at 8:11 AM ^
No, not Stanford. They would just lay there, occasionally advancing a little bit, but mostly motionless.
November 6th, 2021 at 8:20 AM ^
Like their women after a party, when frat boy swimmers get to them?
November 6th, 2021 at 9:09 AM ^
Not funny in the least. Rethink this post...
November 6th, 2021 at 8:39 AM ^
i see you too have dated in the bay area
November 6th, 2021 at 7:53 AM ^
Welp looks like the PAC-12 is out.
Edit: aaaaaand somehow I misread Stanford for Oregon. Swing and a miss, Perkis.
November 6th, 2021 at 8:21 AM ^
Meh... Close enough. Oregon lost to this very same Stanford team, so the faux pas is forgivable.
November 6th, 2021 at 8:09 AM ^
Stanford HC David Shaw started off very well with five seasons of 10 wins or more in his first six seasons, but Stanford took a steep nosedive in 2019 and hasn’t really recovered. It’s easy to say that his initial success was achieved with what Harbaugh left him, but Shaw was OC during Harbaugh’s entire tenure at Stanford so he had a big role in what Harbaugh built. The scores in their games the last couple of years points the finger at his defenses. This game with Utah is an example.

His first 8 years are Harbaugh-esque. All finished between 8-12 wins.
I’m also not in the fire Harbaugh camp, but Stanford is not a good example of why we shouldn’t fire him. They survived his departure quite nicely.
November 6th, 2021 at 8:26 AM ^
Yeah, I think the recruiting has taken a nose dive, also. We used to read about top croots choosing between Michigan, Notre Dame, and Stanford a lot - losing quite a few of them. But that hasn't been a thing the last few years, so much.
It kinda feels like the general malaise around the PAC12, coupled with the continued skyrocketing ride that football playoffs/money/revenue/NIL/TV ratings around the rest of the country has been going, is affecting them in a big way.
November 6th, 2021 at 4:02 PM ^
Plus doing any kind of business in California seems overrun with rules and regs that are insane.
It’s beautiful but overrun with crazy these days
November 6th, 2021 at 9:16 AM ^
Just let Utah beat Oregon, or even better Washington. Sparty loses two and we win out. In a perfect world.
November 6th, 2021 at 10:18 AM ^
What you're describing is called "chaos" and it's a weekly thing this year. My upset special this week: Nebraska 34 - OSU 31. Nebraska is the most dangerous team with a losing record in America. Let's be honest, we were fortunate to get by them as they also lost tight games to MSU and Oklahoma (both currently top 10). They take OSU down today
November 6th, 2021 at 11:47 AM ^
I expect OSU to win, but we’re talking about college* football, so I’m going to check the score sometime around the 3rd quarter just in case.
*OSU is actually a semi-pro team, so I think they’ll win by 30. And then it’s going to get even more awkward for Scott Frost.
November 6th, 2021 at 10:40 AM ^
I didn't get the CFP putting Oregon at 4. They haven't been impressive, though the Ohio St win AT Ohio St was. If Arizona didn't have so many turnover they would probably have beat Oregon. And Oregon went to overtime with Stanford. They had really close games with Fresno, Cal, and UCLA too.
But I think they showed the formula to beatting Ohio St, get after Stroud, perceived and real pressure, and let him neutralize himself.
I still think Oklahoma should have been in the top 4 in the place of Oregon.
November 6th, 2021 at 10:09 AM ^
I'm always impressed with how hard Kyle Whittingham's teams play. Very physical, you're always in for a battle against Utah and sometimes you're not up for it.
Oregon v Utah will be must see, twice probably.
November 6th, 2021 at 6:09 PM ^
He is a very good coach, but he also manages somehow to lose games that he shouldn't every year.
November 6th, 2021 at 3:59 PM ^
Wow
crushed them.
how does that guy keep his job
