USA-Canada Olympic Men’s Hockey 11:10 pm Tonight

Submitted by JonnyHintz on February 11th, 2022 at 3:46 PM

Big game tonight between the men’s Olympic ice hockey teams representing the USA-Canada featuring six current or former Wolverines. It’ll be a late one, with puck drop at 11:10pm and televised on USA Network.

On Team USA we have current UM forwards Matty Beniers and Brendan Brisson, alongside former players Steven Kampfer and Strauss Mann (who is reportedly starting between the pipes tonight). They’ll be going up against current UM forward Kent Johnson and defenseman Owen Power for Team Canada.

I’m not happy about the format of this tournament. All teams advance in each division. These games only decide the seeding and top 4 get a bye but eliminating a team like Canada would make each game equally important. Am I missing something or is this stupidity expected?

I usually keep an eye on us men’s hockey in the Olympics but this was the most fun I’ve had watching in a while. Loved to see all the UofM representation, great job USA and all the current and former M players. Would love this rematch in the gold medal game with similar results!

I greatly appreciate everyone who posted updates and times throughout this thread. I didn't watch the game so reading the recap through here was awesome.

Thank you all. Go blue! Go USA!

I'd give Mann a solid B+ tonight, the very early goal by Canada was a tiny bit weak, and the pipes saved him 3 or 4 times, including early in the 3rd when it was still 3-2...and a whiff seconds later---whew!

But from then on he was absolutely outstanding, including protecting the net while his skaters killed back-to-back penalties for 3 1/2 minutes (including 30+ seconds down two skaters).
