Of course you liked him... They destroyed the buckeyes in the championship game a year before LSU destroyed them in the championship game. We had a fun citrus bowl game against them that went our way. Urbz was harmless to us. Then he rescued Ohio from their nadir before it could get low enough for us to catch up.

Who downvoted this?

I liked him too before he was at OSU, only because I casually rooted for UF in the SEC.  Knowing what I know now, I don't like him.  You really have to go above and beyond to be a good dude for me to like you as an OSU person, and Urban is not that.  So, it's easy to hate him now.

Urban Meyer praising the offense? That's a good thing since A) he's Urban Meyer and B) he shit on MSU during the post-game show against Tulsa

I've never understood how these OSU guys (Tress & Urbz) continue to get positions and praise for how great they are.  Hello...they are terrible people.  Both resigned in the face of scandals.

If you brought hundreds of millions of dollars to whatever organization you went to you would get a job 100% of the time.

That logic would make sense if they were the HC at another P5 school somewhere else.  However, neither bring hundreds of millions of dollars to their organizations post OSU.

Depends on how many extra benefits you believe OSU players got beyond tattoos (equipment to sell, autograph sales, free cars, cash, etc.) and how much of it you think Tress knew about it.  IMO the egregious part of it is the blatently lied, yet continues to portray himself as a highly moral/ethical guy.  He's completely full of shit.

That's assuming that giving players cash for their services is unethical, which it isn't.

Whether you believe players should get paid is a different argument.  I appreciate there is nuance to ethics.  But, agreeing to play by a certain set of rules and then ignoring them is unethical on my book.  Particularly when breaking the rules gives you a competitive advantage over other people who are playing by rules.

I am not so sure.  Cash and cars is pretty common.  Tressel said he didn't  know about tattoo-gate.  The only proof that he did was an email he received in the summer.  So yeah, like  no one ever forgot about an email before.

That's purely speculation unless you care to provide some evidence.

The only proof that he did was an email he received in the summer. So yeah, like  no one ever forgot about an email before.

That is not accurate.  He never claimed to forget about it.  He admitted getting the email and being fully aware.  His excuse was he didn't know who to tell.  And, he was also fully aware the memorabilia for tattoos went all the way back to this assistant coaching days at OSU as well as his time at YSU.  His entire tenure in college is mired in violations.  He is and always has been fully aware of them and never did anything about any of them.  He is completely full of shit.  Go back and refresh your memory if you want a trip down memory lane when Tatgate blew up.

If both coaches didn’t have national titles for OSU and stellar records vs. UM, then they would not be considered saints in Columbus. Winning is put above ethics and integrity in “buckeye nation.” The worst part is that “buckeye nation” is alright with that.

Just a little self righteous? Before Harbaugh the biggest percentage of BIG fans despised the sec and their oversigning and roster management. Clearly Harbaugh is doing what a lot are doing in the BIG now, having that “Talk” with players after spring practice. Now that Harbaugh is doing it as well it’s being accepted as necessary to compete. Once you go against your personal morals, the next time is easier. Meaning, before you know it you are just like everyone else. It’s tough to be different. Gotta be a strong person not to give in to your every whim. As far as athletes getting extra benefits, I have no problem with a booster buying 2 of the players 4 tickets for $2k every home game. I mean just in case you get a medical, you got a chunk of change to start life easier.

paying players and cutting corners are systematic, and involve more than just the coach. The AD, admin, boasters, and whatever body is aware and fosters/encourages it. This is not a defense of urban or others, the coach is the front and is paid to take the fall.

Fisher was not some bum, though.  His in-game coaching was not excellent, he struggled to make strategic adjustments on the fly, and he was never a master of certain specific "sets" designed to get the ball to one specific player in one specific spot.

He was, however, very sound in team preparation.  Even the Fab Five teams that seemed really "player dominated" played very disciplined basketball (particularly defensively with the exception of Jalen Rose but that had more to do with Jalen's attention span than anything else).  He almost introduced the concept of auto-doubles in the post but he could do so because his teams were almost uniformly great at perimeter defensive rotations.  I love watching Michigan v. Kentucky 1993.  It is almost a masterpiece from Fisher.  Mashburn got his but he had to work like hell to get them over outstretched hands, and Ford could not even see the basket.

Offensively as well, rarely was their a possession that Webber, Howard, Taylor, Traylor did not get an entry pass or two and they were all very patient post players who all improved dramatically in passing out of the post during their time at Michigan.

Every single player who Fisher coached played unselfish basketball too.  Even the most prolific scorers he coached were pass first under him, and that is not easy to instill.
