Urban Meyer would be a great NFL coach and the players will relate to him. If this is true then he would not do it UNLESS he has full control. Saban tried but his hard edge did not resonate with spoiled, highly overpaid athletes who have never been accountable for anything in their lives. Meyer on the other hand is greasy enough to fit the perfect mold as an NFL head coach. Easy to look the other way why the player beats on someone and the media looks the other way.

This is an indictment against the UM football program.  And I agree with the following.  That we need OSU to lose key coaches because we have lost faith in Harbaugh and company.

I hope some of the “insiders” on this blog are correct and that changes are coming next week that will placate us all.  Because the above are two parts to the equation.

I hope it’s true if for no other reason than to show OSU fans that he’s still just a mercenary through and through. Columbus isn’t any more special to him than Gainesville.

I’m guessing now that Day looks like an upgrade from Meyer that they don’t care no matter what happens, but I’d still like to watch them squirm.

So much for those health issues that happened to appear after big scandals and forced him to leave 2 jobs...

Also being reported that Ryan Day is their #2 option

Doom scenario...

1.  After Harbaugh signs the extension it leaks out the Campbell wanted the Michigan job but Warde did not pursue him and just focused on extending Harbaugh.

2.  Harbaugh ends up winning 67% over the next 5 years, just enough to keep his job, but not enough to ever win a Big Ten CC.

3.  Meyer turns down the Jaguars BC the health issues are real.  Jaguars hire Ryan Day instead.

4.  OSU hires Matt Campbell and his record over the next 5 years at OSU is as good as OSU's last 5 years.

Seems unlikely, right?  But if it all happened I none of it would surprise me.

Honestly, if Day were to leave, the probabilities are pretty high that OSU would take a step back.

They have fallen upward twice in a row with coaching changes.  But the odds of hitting the jackpot three times in a row are...not good.

They are on the best 15 year run on OSU history.  The odds of that continuing with an entirely new HC and staff are very low.

Not saying they would end up with a RRod type of situation.  But they would probably at least come back to earth a bit to the point where they will no longer be an auto-lock to win the Big Ten and a 2019-level Michigan team would beat them.

Who knows, maybe all of the above happens, EXCEPT that Matt Campbell ends up being like RRod--the hot HC candidate who ends up being very far from elite once he gets to a blue blood program.

The Tressel hire is outside of the 'falling up' category.

OSU fired Cooper becasue he had a poor record against Michigan plus two bad seasons in a row.  Program seemed to be headed in the wrong direction.  So Tressel was more of a typical situation of replacing a coach perceived to be under-performing.

Both the Meyer and Day hires were replacing what had been the best coach to that point in program history, but who were in essence forced out by scandal.

They 'fell up' because normally a school that has to separate from their best coach ever due to scandal hires someone that is not their best coach over.  But...OSU actually hired a better (Meyer better than previously best Tressel), or equal (Day equal to Meyer so far) replacement.

Maybe.  But it wasn't a serious post.  Just joking around.

But...not joking around:  Curious who you or anyone would speculate OSU would try to hire if Day left for the NFL.  I honestly have no clue who they could pursue.

Maybe they would just promote from within again?   Anyway, an OSU coaching change/search would be fascinating to watch.

Although part of me thinks OSU is just a well oiled machine that will never stop, I think this machine was basically built by Urban and getting him out of there will eventually lead to OSU coming back to earth, particularly if Day ever moves on and the system is erased.

Expecting the football factory that is OSU to sputter because they change coaches is just whistling past the graveyard.  Tressel built upon the talent Cooper brought in, Meyer built on Tressel, and Day is building on Meyer.  While we mainly wandered in the desert with the tail end of Carr, Rodriguez & Hoke.  Our last significant game was in 2006 when we lost 42-39 in Columbus.

Hold on.  You’re telling me the 2016 game wasn’t significant?  I seriously believe if we win that game, we have a CHANCE at becoming amongst the top programs. Harbaugh likely doesn’t go on downer meds (or whatever the hell hes on) We likely are not always recruiting at OSU levels and being a superpower, but definitely becoming that 1A tier and being routinely competitive and excellent (which, if we’re being honest, is the real ceiling)

Regardless of all that, the 2016 game was absolutely significant.

Team culture / Coaching culture overrides a bad call / bad game.

It's been 4 years, and you really think JH had this program among the top?

He didn't in 2016, and the record since reinforces the lack of program development skills.

Acting like one game put a voodoo spell on  an overrated head coach for four  years running. Weak sauce.

Maybe, just maybe , JH is not in the CEO master class of  HCs that promote clear program identity, culture, and results.

The idea that he was annointed into the coaching hierarchy is a notion of this hopeful fanbase.

I watched about 6 HCs this week that are program developers that garnish  supreme consistancy.

Also saw another half dozen that with less than 25 % of UM's brand, have their programs on a consistent upward trend.

Go on believing the fairy tale that 4 years ago UM had one of the top coaches in the game.

Funny how "health issues" pop up every time it looks like his actions might have consequences, and go away every time someone flashes millions of dollars at him...

This gets him away from OSU, where he is almost assuredly a major part of the program,  from game planning to recruiting.

It also gets him away from college coeds, which is probably a good thing.

I'm always skeptical of the college coach going to the NFL.  It *can* work, but there's a fair bit of evidence of it not being an automatic: for example, Nick Saban, or Chip Kelly.

That said, from a football perspective, I wonder how Meyer's view of offense translates to the NFL where there are *far* fewer weaknesses to exploit on the defensive side of the ball.  NFL defenses -- even the weaker ones -- are probably better, overall, than the better or best college defenses.

Any thoughts?

Not likely, doubtful that Urban wants  to return to the coaching ranks.

Carry on with the excitement over OSU getting its coaching staff poached, resulting in a default UM renaissance.

Folks keep wishing for other schools to fall in order for Michigan to ascend.

Ryan Day leaving for the Jags or Jets, two shit organizations with no job security, while he has OSU rolling makes no sense.

If you told me he's going to leave to run the Patriots since he's from Vermont, or a first class organization like the Steelers, I would say those scenarios are plausible.

Wow.  To twice recover from career ending medical conditions to then be able to accept an NFL Job.  Must have the best doctors on the planet... miraculous.
