Clutch 2 out hitting and stranding Louisville on 2nd and 3rd base over and over again was a beautiful thing to watch! Bakich winning the first two games as the three seed - unforgivable and fireable stuff.
They were excellent. Really balanced effort. Great pitching from multiple pitchers despite an inconsistent strike zone. Should Louisville advance to the final will be a tough out but all credit to our men in blue.
We need to win one of three yes?
Believe it's one of two. Here's the scenario:
- Oregon and Louisville play tomorrow, the winner moves on
- We face the winner of that game tomorrow afternoon. If we win, we're Regional Champs
- If we lose that game, we move to a what-if, winner take all game on Monday
Got it.
Tough road for Oregon and Louisville. They would need three wins in a row from here.
Inconsistent strike zone ?! I have no doubt Pitino sent some of his "escorts" to the umps the night before and they were trying to pay him back. We got jobbed repeatedly by the hack behind the plate.
82% of teams starting 2-0 make it to the next round.
Let’s give 110% effort to advance
If you love baseball you got to love stats.
100 % of "Fire Bakich" playoff games are wins for UM. We need T-shirts made up.
Seriously. Seth is willing to get the most obscure t-shirts commissioned but the stuff everybody recognizes never gets made into a shirt.
What % of those were seeded where we are? That’s a much better comp.
Seedings are minimized when they don’t account for teams coming in on a hot streak.
I believe this is because college teams don’t have a deep rotation of starting pitchers for these weekend series. If they have at most 3 good starters, that extra elimination game Sunday morning that 1 loss teams must play leaves the cupboard bare for the regional final.
So you're saying it happens 82% of the time, all the time. We're in.
#1 vs #2 play a must win game while Michigan sleeps in and has a late breakfast. The Michigan Difference!
Wonderful!
P S A: Fire 🔥 Bakich!
Fire Bakich! He can't win against higher ranked teams.
Yeah, his teams always play to the level of the competition. Fire his ass. OK, sometimes they play above that level but only when it really counts. Whatever though, burn it all down.
It's great to be a Meeeechigan Wolverine ⚾⚾⚾
Go Blue!!!!
I love this GIF so much, I'm posting it again!!!
I’m looking for Oregon to win and use all their best pitchers.
I'll tell you this much. Oregon routed Southeast Missouri State today and Louisville struggled with them a decent amount. Wouldn't shock me at all if Oregon beat Louisville.
Feasting on bird tonight!!
We'll need to feast on bird one more time, either duck or cardinal.
It's a grand and crazy game. So this team sputters along all year and is left for dead in the water. And now they have won 9 of their last 11-including 8 out of 10 against the best of the B1G and now the Regional. Go Blue!
Beating Rutger in the season ending series may have sparked that fire 🔥
There is an 11 minute recap up on you tube.
Love their unis and the socks with stripes.Classic old school look.
On the flip side, hate Louisville's all-black, long pants uniform. It looks like a sweatsuit.
I prefer the old tear-away jerseys
Not to get ahead of ourselves but #5 Texas AM are struggling with Louisiana who is a pesky team. Obviously lots of baseball to be played.
Texas A&M came back and won 9-6. If we win tomorrow/Monday, we'll be on the road if 1 A&M or 2 TCU win that one. I'm not sure who would host if 3 Louisiana comes back and wins it.
But #2 overall seed Stanford last to Texas State. Would be great for our Directors Cup chances if we advance to super regionals and Stanford gets knocked out early.
One little tidbit...
I believe the win today means that Willie Weiss would NOT be available for an (if needed) Monday game as that would be the 4th game of the suspension.
If we win tomorrow, he would then also miss the opener of the super-regional.
Wouldn’t tomorrow be the fourth game? Rutger Oregon and Louisville being the first three?
Agreed think he’s in play for this series if it gets that far. Hopefully we save him for next week and just win the dang thing tomorrow.
I guess that's right, since he was ejected from the Iowa game. The suspension came down after but I assume it was "time served" for Rutgers. Thanks for correcting.
But the real question is how well can he pitch without the "gunk"?
LFG BLUE!!!
Congratulations to the team!
There should bd a mention of this win on the front page.
Feasting on more bird tomorrow.
Stay aggressive.
Beyond the obvious reasons why this was a BIG game another important reason why this was HUGE is because it guarantees Michigan the Regional Final which means at WORST UM will be tied for 17th in baseball for the NCAA Directors cup...one more win and its a gtd 9th finish...these points might be the deciding points between Michigan and Stanford for First place
