Has Hoke pointed at him yet? Maybe he pointed at him during the Western game.
October 28th, 2011 at 4:34 PM ^
or does that not apply to BB recruits?

It only takes one large, "prestiege" recruit to convince others that it is now cool to go to Michigan. Either way, MIchigan will be fine, because I think Jordan Morgan and Jon Horford are going to develop so well that Beilein and Alexander will get a very good reputation for their ability to coach and utilize 4's and 5's.
A recruit like McGary, though, would make the process happen a lot faster and make Michigan a threat to do some real damage when he arrives. Michigan used to be a "destination school" for players in the top 50, and they used to get some pretty good big guys. It would be great to see this happen again.

Amen! The glory days are returning.

UMhoops is passing along info from recruiting ESPN recruiting analyst Dave Telep. I was just giving UMhoops love because that is where I saw the info.
One of the most respected scouts, analysts or insiders in the world of basketball recruiting, Dave Telep, posted his two cents on the situation this afternoon. Telep calls the McGary recruitment “one of those rare full circle situations” and quotes an assistant coach as predicting McGary to Michigan:

I ll respect him if he ends up being right and we get him
October 28th, 2011 at 5:49 PM ^
Telep is a very respectable source with no real bias. Also safe to assume he knows what he's talking about with McGary blogging for ESPN...

Dave has been providing this service for years. Has a good rep within the bball world.
October 28th, 2011 at 5:51 PM ^
Actually ESPN is reporting it, but thank you very much for sharing.
October 28th, 2011 at 5:55 PM ^
This pleases me on a carnal level.
October 28th, 2011 at 6:00 PM ^
When is he planning to commit again?
October 28th, 2011 at 6:04 PM ^
next week according to the honorable Dave Telep
Michigan appears to have overcome the objections and has itself positioned to nab the top power forward in the country next week

I have a feeling we will be hearing things like this for the next 7 days. Duke this, Michigan that. Someone makes a late push. The same crap we hear with any recruit leading up to the final day.

early christmas present nice. would love to land this guy best recruit since fab5.
October 28th, 2011 at 6:37 PM ^
I'd rather have McGary come to Michigan, than have a NBA season this year.
October 28th, 2011 at 7:27 PM ^
Wouldn't notice if NBA didn't come back all season.

I take that article with a grain of salt. Hopefully he will pick Michigan. This will be very interesting because if he does, I wonder if that will help bring Zach Banner to UofM as well knowing that one of the top prospects has already committed and they would be a nasty duo.

the next big step in the return of UM hoops to NCAA relevance.

make for a giddy time around here.

Given that Glen Robinson III has slowly moved up the boards into an approx. top 40 player, if you add in McGary, we could easily be in consideration for a top 10 recruiting class. Fantastic!
October 28th, 2011 at 11:32 PM ^
So I'm not going to read it. McGary said a day or two ago not to believe anything you read.
October 28th, 2011 at 11:37 PM ^
of that phrase that I have ever heard. "I'm not supposed to believe anything I read, so if I don't read it, it's true." I love it! I'm using that logic forever.

But with Robinson in McGary's ear, and Beilein being a good recruiter, and the new facilities, and the AAU coach liking Michigan, and Mitch being the final piece of the puzzle, it makes a ton of sense for him to come to Michigan. I still wonder if he comes for one year or two. Either would be fine. I like the idea of having a very few one and dones, but having a lot of guys staying for more than a year. As regards McGary, I hope that Hardaway sticks around for two years. It's too bad that Novak and McGary won't overlap at all.

The NBA lockout could contribute to his staying two years. I'm not sure how a lost season would affect the 2012 draft, but I think it's safe to say that it would be affected, with repercussions for the 2013 draft -- the logjam might not clear until 2014.
