Um hoops observations

Well watching the big ten + stream for hoops to distract from sign gate nonsense. Tarris Reed is like Moses Malone (for you old guys like me) just eats up space and a gravitational force of a planet. The ball just finds him. Nmari Burnett hits 3 three pointers which is probably more than Caleb Houston hit in his first exhibition. The length of the new guys Jackson and Olivier ? is going to make finishing at the rim much better this year. Dug is dug. T Will looks more agile. Will T not sure if it’s ever going to work, gw3 not shy and hit a 3. Some Zack Irvin vibes from him,  Not sure why YoYo hasn’t played.

Watching also. Will T is not great Bob. Really hoped he would take a step forward but not sure that will happen. Transfers look good. Have some decent size on the team.

I was with you. I never understood why we recruited him as he was too small for a big, too slow for a wing, not that athletic, and not much of a shooter. I was confused what Juwan saw in him but at that point was giving him the benefit of the doubt. Now on top of that we have Cheddar who is poor poor poor man's twill and 3 godawful one and dones. Think Juwan might just be a terrible evaluator of talent at the HS level as well as terrible at building rosters. I think he's a great coach but those are two pretty big holes. I hope he can figure it out.

It's 70-25 with 15 minutes left in the second. Tray Jackson has 16, Dug has 13. We're hitting 60 percent from three. That's good even in an empty gym. Tray and Nimari haven't missed from 3.

I’ll also add, they look like some grown ass men out there compared to our baby faced teams the last two years. That alone gives me some hope.

What I've seen thus far this team gives way more of a shit about defense than last year, and that's a welcome sign.

It's a really short bench and that'll get them but it also looks like a team with way more cohesion and experience, which makes sense given who they brought in.

Yeah it's Northwood but you're also beating them by 50+ and that is at least what you'd expect

This is exactly what I wanted to ask about. For whatever reason it just seemed like there were a lot of issues with the mental side of the game (effort, both on-ball and help D) last year. Really think people are underestimating what a tremendous difference a new team culture can make. With Jaelin Llewellyn we are ostensibly adding 5 new players and only one is a freshman. Lot of potential on D too.

Was wondering that as well.  Don't have BTN+ but watched the Matthew Loves Ball highlights and didn't see Taris on the bench during H2 either.

Also, what about Llewellyn?  Did not notice him at all on the floor if he did play.  There was a clipped bit of audio in the highlights where they referenced someone coming back from an ACL which I assume was talking about him.  I was really hoping he would be healed to the point that he could at least get some run in the non-con season.

my glass is now half full.  Thank you.  willis reed (cause I'm that old and still want Bill bradley to be president) and moses malone comparisons work for me.

Was at Crisler tonight. Defensive intensity was a welcome site. Did a good job pressuring the ball, getting hands on passes, getting steals and fast break opportunities. Jackson looked more athletic than I anticipated and was smooth with the ball. Also, he can shoot. Burnett shot from deep better than expected and was dishing dimes. He is also quick.

The team, in general, looked more connected and aggressive. You have to consider the level of competition, but I liked what I saw. This team will be competitive.

My observations.

Already knew Jace was hurt, but fuck, he's better than cheddar and maybe twill.

Fuck yoyo is hurt.

Fuck Jaelin is still hurt.

Fuck Dug landed funny twice and then subbed himself out (he did at least come back later but starting the year with a bum ankle/knee/whatever is not great).

Fuck Tarris disappeared in the second half, is he hurt?

But aside from that I like the look of this team much better than last year's.
