UM Hockey-Front Page of ESPNU
Checked ESPNU.com this morning and Red and Luke Glendening were rockin' the homepage. Hope we can get the "W" tonight and bring a title back to A2!!.
On the page there is a video with Thorne and Melrose talking about the Semi-Final games and a little preview, then there's Red's press conference from yesterday also.
It's a sad day when Barry Melrose's name is mentioned, and Gary Thorne is just "another commentator." Thorne is one of the best play by play hockey guys in the biz. I still have fond memories of him calling the Detroit/Colorado games back in the day. Exactly why the NHL needs to migrate back to ESPN.
gary thorne and bill clement sucked
The reality of "migrate back to ESPN" is that Melrose seems to be ESPNs marquee hockey guy now, so we'd have to see a lot of him. And he might just make the Vs. clowns look good in comparison.
At least they know who's on what team, unlike Thorne or Melrose. They frequently misidentify the players, but at least it's like... mistaking Helm and Datsyuk who are at least both lefties on the same team with jersey numbers ending in 3. Thorne frequently mistook #26 in green for #24 in white the other night.
"I think that's the biggest challenge for any coach nowadays," Berenson said. "It seems like a lot of the younger generation, they feel entitled and not willing to work. But a kid like Luke Glendening, he came to Michigan with no expectations. I didn't know if he would ever play a game, but when I saw him on the ice I realized that this kid has something special. He does everything right, he goes through the wall. Off the ice he is like a machine, and he is just a great kid. Those are the kind of kids that set an example for those entitled kids."
The one downside in recruiting so many high-profile, highly-talented kids is that they're so used to being the star on their teams at a young age. That's why you need guys like Glendening, who succeed not because of their superior talent but because of their superior work ethic and team-oriented character.
