The Blue Angels will be in town this weekend to perform at Thunder Over Michigan at Willow Run, and Michigan hockey alum and current Red Wing Luke Glendening was taken up today. Blue Angel 7 always flies to show sites in advance of the rest of the team, so this was the aircraft that Glendending rode in. The rest of the Blue Angels arrive tomorrow (Thursday).
He's starting to remind me of Kirk Maltby, gritty player who gets under the opponents skin and can score from time to time. BTW, the Wings have won 6 straight and are in first place in the Atlantic.
Luke Glendening was just named first star after having an amazing game against Chicago. Absolutely love hearing him have success with Detroit. Trey Burke also had a buzzer beater against the Tim Hardaway Jrs' Knicks to win the game 102-100.
Congrats to this former captain of UM's hockey team; just penned a 3 year deal with the Wings. He had been on a one year two way (minors/NHL) contract.
If you are not a Red Wings fan he was called up due to the rash of injuries to the team and has installed himself in as a major pest who gets significant penalty kill minutes, to the point he was making it hard to send him back down as the Red Wings get healthier. No goals yet but has a history of scoring in the minors/college. Was a major part of the Grand Rapids run to the AHL championship at the end of last year. Exactly the type of guy you need for a playoff run.
So coming off of tonight's exciting win (followed by a great end to the Red Wings game as well), I decided to put together senior haikus for the four seniors on the hockey team, ahead of tomorrow night's senior night. Yes, it's an obvious rip-off of Brian's tradition for the football team. I'm not guaranteeing quality, as we don't get to know as much about the personality of the hockey team as we do the football team. Still, it's my senior year as well, so I feel a special connection with this team as I have been watching them for four years, and the runs in the CCHA tournament in 2010 and NCAA tournament last year were both awesome.
Please add your own
Plays with tons of grit (of course)
Y U NO SCORE MORE?
I think you have a troll-face
But your shot's sexy
Hardest shot on team
Always steady back on D

Hail! Tiny Jesus
Short in stature, large in heart
You deserve Hobey
Checked ESPNU.com this morning and Red and Luke Glendening were rockin' the homepage. Hope we can get the "W" tonight and bring a title back to A2!!.
On the page there is a video with Thorne and Melrose talking about the Semi-Final games and a little preview, then there's Red's press conference from yesterday also.
