Two different NFL draft broadcasts: ESPN & ABC

Submitted by Blue@LSU on April 27th, 2023 at 6:27 PM

Apparently the ESPN and ABC broadcasts of the NFL draft will have a different focus. The ESPN broadcast will focus on the NFL team and how the player fits/fills a need. The ABC broadcast will feature College Game Day (not sure if the whole crew will be there) and focus more on the player and his journey to the draft.

Pretty cool idea, IMO. I'll probably tune in to ABC to check it out.

I wont watch ESPN  ,guys like Booger are incredibly racist ,somehow ESPN lets them get away with it .Last night he said "how can people think about drafting a white QB these days"   can you imagine if Mel Kiper said "you shouldnt draft a QB ,based on the color of his skin"

I mean okay, sure, it's not as bad as if a White commentator had said that about Black QBs. But injecting race into these discussions, even when done in jest, is still racist, offensive, and incredibly distasteful.

Instead of reacting to anti-Black racism by perpetuating tired and cringe-worthy memes about how lame and unathletic White people supposedly are, how about we just avoid racist rhetoric altogether? I like that idea. And I say this as a proud POC whose race, ethnicity, and skin color are not anywhere close to being White.

EDIT: I highly doubt that Booger actually said this. However, casual racist remarks that ridicule the supposed lameness of White people are indeed all too common. Granted, they're not nearly as offensive as analogous remarks about Black people or other POCs, but that doesn't make them okay or not distasteful.

I just searched "Booger White Quarterback" on Twitter...something I never thought I'd say/search and there is not a single hit.

I'll keep digging, but I feel like if he said that, it would be all over social media, there would be an apology, and he probably wouldn't be on TV right now.

The closest thing I can find was last year he said Zach Wilson grew up with a lot of money and has never had to be accountable.

...which is a shot a rich people, not white people, unless you want to reach and talk about how the majority of rich people (in the US) are white.

But I can't find anything, if someone does, I'd be interested to see it.

Edit...still searching, nothing.

Edit #2...I looked on social media and Googled the man's name. Nothing.

I think this is a better way to do it than trying to combine both types of coverage on one channel.  Personally, I'm more into the football stuff, and I've found myself gravitating to the NFL Network's coverage in recent years for that reason.  I don't really need to hear every guy's sob story (however inspiring) to get interested, but I guess if you're trying to make draft coverage tolerable for more casual fans it serves a purpose.

They've been doing this for at least 4 years, lol.

I believe 2019 was the first draft they did the Gameday on ABC and traditional NFL crew on ESPN.

Why does ESPN insist on sticking with guys like Corso and Mort? No disrespect to the guys, they are legends in their field but it’s time to hang it up.
