tOSU's Problems & Recruiting
So, as to not start another thread on what events have taken place with Tressel and tOSU I thought I would start a thread looking forward. I think it goes without saying that this will end up harming the buckeyes on the recruiting trail. For those of you, who are more insiders than myself, I was wondering if we could get some insight into potentially how much this will help. I believe that the guys we are going after that are die-hard buckeyes will stay that way even if, some major sanctions were to come down. My question is who is holding offers from M & tOSU that, through these recent happenings, may start leaning more towards the good guys, that were maybe on the fence or at least leaning toward the buckeyes.
Can't wait to watch the fall, go blue.
Edit: I understand this may take some time to develop but, I thoguht it interesting to discuss instead of the countless redundant Tressel threads.
I would imagine it will have to affect OSU poorly...especially the longer the NCAA waits to lay out punishment. This is an important point too: if OSU believes that the NCAA may dock them scholarships starting even in two years, it will make them re-prioritize how many shollies they give out to each position, thus making OSU pull a few from kids we both are pursuing.
So short answer: this has to help Michigan this recruiting cycle...maybe only gives us 1 kid we wouldn't get, but we will get something.
Next years class won't look so sparkly since Kiffin and Big Ed wont be able to spin the NCAA sactions to recruits and recruits parents since the sanctions will be "offcially official"
People have to know that big sanctions are coming to USC. They already missed a bowl this year.
As I said in another thread, I don't think that recruits care about this stuff. Even as regard to parents, Tressel can just say, "I was trying to protect my players," and many will take that as a good thing.
I think people forget how good Ed Orgeron and Kiffin are at lying.
Also, when USC misses a bowl again, next year, we'll see how things look.
It's Ohio State. Kids want to play there. This won't effect them at all.
I could also see recruits may become reluctant to play at OSU due to Tressel and his role in all of this. I am sure that recruits want to be certain that if they play football that the coach is truly doing everything in the TEAM'S best interest as so wins will not have to forfeited and bowl game bans.
Since this is not a recruiting violation, can the NCAA hand down recruiting sanctions?
I may be wrong but, I do believe that they can for violations not resulting from recruiting.
I believe they can (and should) get hit with two of the biggies, "Failure to comply" and "lack of institutional Control" those equal huge punishments up to and including the dreaded "death penalty" (not that it will happen though).
Impact will be how the highschool coaches in oh react to this. Imo

<br>O-H-OH-NO!
If the appeal does not go their way, I heard they can have a really small class next year. I heard people say in the low teens.
For osu, I think it will have more of a negative impact next recruiting cycle.
They lose 10 scholarships per year for 3 years. So that puts them at 15 per year. With some flexibility as demonstrated by the SEC.
I'm not sure if this is correct, but I heard that it could be lower than that since they back counted some recruits since they enrolled early.
Sorry double post.
I think that I'm in the minority of Michigan fans when I say this, but I sincerely hope that we hammer away at this on the recruiting trail whenever there's an opportunity. I think that the Rodriguez era proves that negative recruiting does work, and I don't think that it's unethical if it's truthful and part of an overall picture that includes what's positive about your university.
