Keith Jackson iV?
January 7th, 2024 at 6:28 PM ^
Broke his knee, too. Thanks, Dan.
Btw, interesting factoid about Keith Jackson. He was named offensive player of the century for Oklahoma, which I never would've guessed given their history of great backs.

Yeesh. I wasn't paying any attention to the early games - I presumed Detroit just sat everyone (and won anyway). What the hell, it's not like the Communists were really going to win in the late game (they're currently down 4 scores).

Never presume anything good will happen to the Lions
January 7th, 2024 at 7:21 PM ^
Am I correct the Lions now would have been #1 seed with the SF loss without the mental collapse of the officials last week vs Dallas?
January 7th, 2024 at 7:40 PM ^
Yes. Thanks, Brad Allen.
January 7th, 2024 at 7:40 PM ^
Yes, Lions would have had a bye if not for the screw job in Dallas(again).
January 7th, 2024 at 7:42 PM ^
Yes - but if Detroit had won, the 49ers would have also played today much differently than they did (that was effectively an exhibition game, neither they nor the Rams played much of anyone).
January 7th, 2024 at 9:03 PM ^
Yeah, it was apparent to me when I tuned in and found QBs Darnold and Wentz playing instead o Purdy and Stafford.
January 7th, 2024 at 9:28 PM ^
At least another home game
January 7th, 2024 at 7:02 PM ^
Hyperextended! No structural damage fortunately.

How any Lions fan can criticize Dan Campbell for anything at all after the turnaround he just pulled off is absolutely ridiculous.
It's the Detroit Lions, a.k.a., the most inept and dysfunctional franchise in all of American professional sports. The same Lions that went 0-16. The same Lions that gave a contract extension to the worst GM in NFL history. The same Lions whose coach once won an overtime toss and decided to kick. The same Lions that are the only non-expansion team yet to play in a Super Bowl. The same Lions with exactly ONE playoff win in 50+ years. The same Lions that hadn't even hosted a playoff game since before the "world wide web" was a thing. And this man Dan Campbell, may God preserve him, a man who was a player on the 0-16 team and had every reason to avoid that festering sewage tank of an organization like the plague, decided to once again grace Ford Field with his presence and has somehow turned them into a winner.
If you're a Lions fan and Dan Campbell shows up to your house, sets it on fire, and stands over you laughing maniacally while you weep, you thank him for the free heat and ask him for his autograph.

I wouldn't go quite that far. But I did just accept that the same aggressive mentality that wins them games (and should have won them on in Dallas) is also the one that had him needlessly play his starters all game. And furthermore, it's not like Detroit was really going to go on a Super Bowl run. Would be nice to get the home win, though.

The Cleveland Clowns have never played in a Super Bowl and went 1-15 followed by 0-16. Their failures rival and maybe even surpass the Detroit Lions. Very close teams in ineptitude if you look at the both during the era of the Super Bowl. But your point is well made. Dan Campbell has turned them around along with Ben Johnson. Drafting has been a huge part of their success. Hutchinson looks to be a future defensive player of the year and barring any setbacks he looks like a future Hall of Famer.
January 7th, 2024 at 9:33 PM ^
That's an expansion team. The current Cleveland Browns organization didn't exist prior to 1999. The old Cleveland Browns organization is now the Baltimore Ravens.

Campbell is still a great coach and I still support him. Any other coach would have lost the locker room at 1-6 last year and been fired at the end of the season. But that doesn't make him immune to criticism. He shouldn't have went for 2 from the 8 and he shouldn't have played his starters the way he did today. But that hardly means I want him gone.

Jim Leyland got soooo much grief.
January 8th, 2024 at 12:18 PM ^
Loved Leyland as Tiger manager. But to be fair, those Sunday lineups . . . woof.
January 7th, 2024 at 8:09 PM ^
Thank the shield. Their screw up cost the Lions. Lots of starters likely wouldn’t have played if the two seed was wrapped up. Unless Dan would have played for the bye.

Rooting for the Bears to come back and tie the Packers
January 7th, 2024 at 7:27 PM ^
Missed hearing him on the Rose Bowl. Hope he is doing well.

The Grand Daddy of all games.
January 7th, 2024 at 7:46 PM ^
Saw that. And everyone will be happy to hear that Keith Jackson is alive and, AFAIK, well.
January 7th, 2024 at 7:49 PM ^
I'm worried that Keith Jackson won't be with us on Jan 12.
I hope someone posts a thread on Friday to give us an update on his health.

He had a great year, but because the schedule keeps getting longer, single season records mean less in the NFL than any other sport. With 17 games a year now, a lot of records are going to be broken.
January 7th, 2024 at 7:57 PM ^
We could put an asterisk on it.
61*
January 7th, 2024 at 10:24 PM ^
A single season record is almost meaningless now. Baseball has changed the number of games in a season once. The NFL has gone from 12 to 14 to 16 and now 17 games. I’m not sure an asterisk covers it.
January 7th, 2024 at 7:59 PM ^
Gotta admit. I clicked very skeptically. But all good.
January 8th, 2024 at 1:23 PM ^
Dumb that LaPorta played and got injured. Probably not playing in the playoffs. I expect Stafford to come back and beat his former team.

I wish Keith could have come back to do the PBP of Michigan vs Alabama in the rose bowl. He always seem to like Michigan from all the games he did over the years where Michigan played. I'm glad Keith did a lot of the Michigan games in 1997 with Brian's Dad. Pretty cool!
