TomVH: DT Danny O'Brien Update

2012 DT Danny O'Brien (Flint,MI) will be on hand for the U Mas game. Part of the reason for the visit came from Fred Jackson tonight. Jackson told O'Brien's mom Friday night that Danny will be getting an offer (which will be a verbal offer) on Saturday at the game. We'll see if he gets it tomorrow or not. Either way Danny is excited. Michigan and Tennessee are his top two. He plans on taking official visits and waiting to make his decision though.

Great news. Should be interesting to see how our coaches handle offers to juniors.

(Side note: O'Brien received 4 stars in Scout's initial 2012 rankings.)

From what I've gathered so far the verbal offers are important, especially for the instate kids. It lets them know where they stand, and gives them some peace of mind.

It's by no means his final two, just two that are recruiting him the hardest and his favorites right now. He has an offer from Tennessee (and soon one from us) so we form the top two.

Just FWIW, i went to Davison v Powers game last week and O'Brien didn't do much and Davison's OL isnt especially big.

Just one game tho, so of course I trust the coaches on offering and would still welcome a commit. I just don't think in what I saw that he was a world beater.

My brother and I both graduated from Romulus. He went to the Romulus vs. Crockett game in BG's Senior year and came away rather unimpressed saying, "I hope the Michigan coaches actually make him look like a five star. He didn't do all that much on the field."

The res,t as they say... is history. As the poster above stated, give him some time to get great college coaching and then we'll see where he goes. I do appreciate the scouting report though.
