Will admit I didn’t see this coming, but this doesn’t have exactly that Lane feeling to it. But may change some things with regard to CJ Carr, unless it doesn’t.

all he has to be is slightly competent and he'll win at least one title. But it's at the cost of burning your alma mater. Was it worth it?
February 3rd, 2023 at 4:15 PM ^
I guess he also said,
"TO HELL WITH NOTRE DAME!!!"
Maybe they can get Josh Gattis to take his talents to South Bend - Speed in South Bend!!!
February 3rd, 2023 at 4:25 PM ^
Just saw a story that Miami is looking at Doug Nussmeier for their OC position.
It looks like they're just going down the list of previous UM offensive coordinators. Next in line will be either Pep or Drevno.
February 3rd, 2023 at 4:32 PM ^
....what about Gorgeous Borges!!!
February 4th, 2023 at 4:25 AM ^
Everyone knows this is the real answer
February 4th, 2023 at 7:58 AM ^
He might be a good coach. Unfortunately for Borges and Hoke, apparently Borges can't recruit.
February 4th, 2023 at 1:32 PM ^
If we wait long enough....his time will come.
February 3rd, 2023 at 4:48 PM ^
Nussmeier engineered the MOON game. That is all.
February 4th, 2023 at 12:58 AM ^
Seems like they are focusing on OCs who came to Michigan from Alabama, which is a slightly shorter list.
February 4th, 2023 at 1:45 PM ^
Funny enough Gattis and Nussmeier were both at Bama before they came to Michigan
February 3rd, 2023 at 4:21 PM ^
I’m not entirely certain of that, since he now faces something Alabama hasn’t seen since Urban’s downfall at Florida, a team that’s equivalent or better than Alabama in the SEC East, and in this case, they are really humming.
February 3rd, 2023 at 4:28 PM ^
I dont know exactly what Georgia will have at QB, though i imagine theyll just pick from 11 different 5 star QBs... but otherwise, I think next year's georgia team might be better than the last 2.
February 3rd, 2023 at 7:29 PM ^
Don't discount that maturity and experience which Stetson Bennett brought to Georgia these last two-years. That experience is not going to be easy to replace.
February 3rd, 2023 at 5:18 PM ^
Bama is a mulligan blue blood and Georgia isnt in their division. If the BIG TEN didnt have its head up its ass they also would have their Gerogia, Bama, Florida in the same division.
Hell Bama and Georgia's best bet is if they lose a game is to lose the division with it so you get to stay home and enjoy your bye week before the playoff.
February 3rd, 2023 at 8:48 PM ^
Worked fine for OSU to lose their division (embarrassingly) and sit home and get in.
February 3rd, 2023 at 6:08 PM ^
I don’t see it that way. He saw an opportunity to be a part of the Saban coaching tree instead of the Freeman coaching sapling. A solid year or two at Bama will pay dividends for him if he wants to be a head coach or OC in the NFL. He’s still young and will likely need one lower tier head coach gig before a major one. If he is successful at Bama and Freeman doesn’t work out, ND will definitely be calling in 3 years. I really think this is an excellent move for him and a no brainer resume builder.
February 3rd, 2023 at 8:53 PM ^
He's at Bama. The coaches there gets SEC j head coaching jobs
February 3rd, 2023 at 6:41 PM ^
Well, Freeman is also a young guy, so the head job won't open up for awhile. Might as well collect a fat paycheck and a natty or two while you wait.
February 4th, 2023 at 1:17 AM ^
That head coaching job might be open in a year.
February 3rd, 2023 at 8:33 PM ^
Burning your alma mater? He's a grown man and taking a job that is a step up from ND.
Are coaches only allowed to work at the school where they played?
February 4th, 2023 at 1:18 AM ^
I actually think this improves his odds of being the head coach at ND, if that's what he wants. If Freeman has a couple of bad years, they go to Rees. He won't have any association with what could be a couple of bad years there.
February 3rd, 2023 at 4:13 PM ^
Can't help but feel the sun is beginning to set on the Saban empire
February 3rd, 2023 at 4:18 PM ^
Maybe, but he also just brought in an absolutely ridiculous recruiting class yet again. I think the only reason it seems this way is because Georgia has also become ridiculous.
February 3rd, 2023 at 4:39 PM ^
You serious, Clark? He just brought in nine 5* players for the 2023 class across the different recruiting services.
February 3rd, 2023 at 5:08 PM ^
Really? They just brought in another insane recruiting class and their options at QB next year are a RS freshman 5*, Ty Simpson, and Jalen Milroe, who is one of the most insane QB athletes I've ever watched
February 3rd, 2023 at 5:13 PM ^
RG3 level? I honestly know nothing about him other than the link you just shared.
February 3rd, 2023 at 5:32 PM ^
RG3 was a much better passer than Milroe is at this point, but he's a more dynamic runner. His change of direction and shiftiness is Lamar Jackson levels but he's not as skinny and has better top speed
February 4th, 2023 at 1:50 PM ^
Relax, better top speed than a sub 4.3 Lamar Jackson?
February 3rd, 2023 at 8:52 PM ^
That does not look like a very good throwing motion. On the other hand, he can rest assured that Gary Danielson will happily hand-wash his jock.
February 3rd, 2023 at 6:12 PM ^
Because they didn’t make the playoff in the first time…..ever? Or because in their bowl game they looked capable of giving any playoff team a run for their money. Your take, is a silly one.
February 4th, 2023 at 2:45 AM ^
Which is all the more reason that if you are Tommy Rees that you go benefit from learning a thing or two from Saban whilst he's still coaching. One thing we know for sure is that his staff is a revolving door and they never really take a step back. Saban reloads and still finds great success. This year was the first year in a long time that they looked like they had regressed a teeny bit and was still a fantastic season for anyone not named Alabama considering how elite they've been over the past two decades.
February 4th, 2023 at 7:52 AM ^
It seems like something is up. Why bring in an OC that has top 25 talent that is performing at top 40 level? ND offense seems to be under performing. It is a solid move for Rees. Learn a few more ways to win. Maybe Saban knows something I don't know (besides people, football, coaching, recruiting, and finance.)
February 3rd, 2023 at 8:17 PM ^
I am convinced this is a young John Pinette.
February 3rd, 2023 at 8:56 PM ^
I miss that guy. But. Nay, nay, it's not him. 😉
February 3rd, 2023 at 4:21 PM ^
Was he pushed out quietly? He was retained by Marcus Freeman, but it may not have been his choice.
February 3rd, 2023 at 4:24 PM ^
Pretty awesome landing spot for someone that was pushed out.
February 3rd, 2023 at 4:26 PM ^
Maybe, but Rees was highly regarded by most coaches. If he wasn't a Notre Dame alum there would be no surprise in this upward move. But Irish eyes are not smiling.
February 3rd, 2023 at 5:36 PM ^
Absolutely not, this is like moving from the Miami Dolphins to the Kansas City Chiefs. This is an upgrade. Notre Dame is not happy about this.
February 3rd, 2023 at 4:23 PM ^
Tommy isn’t like recapping old coaching tires, like some of Nicky’s hires. Hope he can hold on to clipboards better than footballs.
February 3rd, 2023 at 4:24 PM ^
May his alabama tenure be as successful as this...
February 3rd, 2023 at 4:41 PM ^
That face has "awwww shiiiiiit!" all over it.
February 3rd, 2023 at 6:29 PM ^
The only problem with that picture is the ugly bumble bee unis.
February 3rd, 2023 at 8:18 PM ^
Those weren’t bad. It was the away whites version we wore at MSU. Those were brutal.
February 3rd, 2023 at 4:26 PM ^
Is Rees a hit name in the OC world? Not that I'm in the know on these things but I didn't even know he was a coach nor at Notre Dame till yesterday.
February 3rd, 2023 at 4:29 PM ^
Those, who can't do, coach!
February 3rd, 2023 at 4:27 PM ^
Not an unreasonable move. I assume he wants to be a head coach, and exposure to a different school and Saban can’t hurt his resume. Not sure if he was considered at ND, but if he was passed over, also understandable.
February 3rd, 2023 at 4:29 PM ^
Thank the Lord, if we meet them, I'm betting the whole mortgage!!!
February 3rd, 2023 at 4:34 PM ^
This feels so odd to me. All I have heard ND fans do for the last two years is bitch about this guy. Saban clearly sees something.
