  • Paywalled. Nothing but good news out of the visit.
  • His mom left impressed especially from the academics perspective.
  • Gary said everything matched up with all the great things he had heard about fall Saturdays at the Big House.
  • Although his commitment is still far off, this would be a win of astronomical proportions for Harbaugh and Michigan. It may be even bigger than Jabrill.

I believe we're positively trending for Gary, Corley, Davis, and Kemp.

We're behind others for Kelly (Oklahoma is presumed, and they're having a pretty good season right now).

I haven't heard much about Jackson or Murphy.

and there seems to be a lot of talk of Harding not ending up in the class which would leave us at 21.  The possibility of having room for 28 has been discussed and those seven would give us 28. That would be a real nice way to fill out the class though I wouldn't mind seeing Nauta's name in there,

I don't know why a defensive line recruit would ever choose Auburn over Michigan based on academics, the current coaching staffs, and the trajectory of each team.  If there's one thing Michigan has consistenly done well, it's develop defensive lineman.

He said based on academics, the coaching staffs, and where the programs are headed. Your numbers have absolutely nothing to do with any of that. He is correct. Although I do like how you picked 2000 as an arbitrary number, as if Gary is making his decision based on Rob Renes and Josh Williams getting drafted vs. Leonardo Carson and Quinton Reese getting drafted when he was 3 years old.

" If there's one thing Michigan has consistenly done well, it's develop defensive lineman."

If 2000 is too far back - lets just look at Mattisons tenure:

DL drafted since Mattison arrived at Michigan -

Auburn: 3 (Two 1st round, One 7th round)

Michigan: 1 (3rd round)

In that time frame -

Alabama - 6

Clemson - 5

LSU - 5

North Carolina - 5

Oklahoma - 4

Penn. St. - 4

South Carolina - 4

Florida - 3

FSU - 3

Georgia - 3

Illinois - 3

Iowa - 3

Miss St. - 3

Missouri - 3

Notre Dame - 3

Stanford - 3

UCLA - 3

"War eagle" is also a civil war battle cry Alabama natives used. Then after the war, an eagle nursed an injured confederate soldier back to health. So, I mean there's that....

Not making this up.

I don't know if it is as big as Jabrill. Jabrill went full 'all in for Michigan' when he commited(at a low point for the program) and seems to have the WANT and the DRIVE to raise the program. Gary would be nice but Peppers commiting at that point of time with that conviction is on a whole different level.

Last season cost us most of the bump in recruiting we were getting from Peppers. Gary would be Harbaugh's first big time commit and the centerpiece of his first full class here. It's going to draw the attention of other recruits. Expect Gary to be all in for Michigan if he commits, too.

If we're talking about impact on the field, a player like Peppers means more in the college game than any lineman. He's probably playing twice as many snaps compared to a starter on the DL.

At least traveling to AA for games is an easy, inexpensive trip for Rashan's mother. Just a quick, direct flight and ~30 min drive.

But to get to Auburn and most those other SEC schools you got shitty layovers and delays and stank and misery. For sure would grind my gears.

Michigan is D-Line 'U'.  A lot of work by Mattison and Hoke is starting to pay dividends, this team obviously continues the effort.  It sure would be nice to play on a DL that's feared from one end to the other, rather than just trying to be a star who gets double teamed constantly.

Also, Auburn means fly to Atlanta and drive I-20 to Opelika would be how I'd get there.  Its own set of issues for sure, not as easy as the I94 drive to exit 175.

Recruits saying they love Michigan for their academics is the equivalent of a girl saying you're "a really nice guy" at this point. When I hear someone say it I can't help but feel I'm in the friendzone

I hope he takes a second visit to Auburn on a non-football weekend. I had friends who worked for Auburn and they said the campus clears out on a Friday afternoon with all the students heading home to Momma for home cooking and laundry. It could be a lonely place for a kid from New Jersey in the off season.
