Today's Schedule of Games
It’s Shakeout Saturday in the SEC and ACC. Several huge games that will decide who stays on top of the conference mountain and who falls aside. But you’ll have to wait until later in the day to see them . . .
Here are some highlights:
At Noon . . . I got nothing. Maybe Texas Tech @ #7 TCU on FOX. The talking heads are trying to talk this into a game because they need a storyline that involves TCU at this point, but I’m not seeing it. TCU will win in a snoozer.
So maybe I’ll go old school with a look at Air Force @ Army (it’s at 11:30 AM on CBS). I love college football because you get all these contrasting playing styles that you will never see in the group-think NFL. You have teams like three-yards-and-a-cloud-of-dust Army playing on the same day as air-it-out teams like Tennessee or Texas Tech. Plus, West Point in the fall is glorious. But not glorious enough to produce a victory, Air Force will win it.
In the Afternoon at 3:30 PM on CBS: #1 Tennessee @ #3 Georgia. The Big One. Fans and media types tend to undervalue OL and DL play, and defense and the running game. They fall hard for the shiny object of a flashy elite offense like Tennessee’s. But Tennessee’s defense is not elite. At the end of the day, Georgia will simply get more stops than Tennessee and take care of business.
In the Evening at 7:00 PM on ESPN: #6 Alabama @ #10 LSU. The other Big One in the SEC. Like Penn State in a White Out night game, LSU is a different critter in Death Valley at night. Dare we dream? Can LSU knock off Alabama tonight? I really, really want this to happen for the good of college football and humanity in general. But it won’t. Alabama will pull out a tough one and we’ll still have to hear talk about three SEC teams in the CFP.
At 7:30 PM on BTN: #5 Michigan @ Rutgers. Michigan has established a clear trend this season . . . we crush the teams we are supposed to crush, but we take our damn good natured time about it. There have been a bunch of blow out wins this year that were quite uncomfortable games in the first half. So while we would all love for Michigan to get a quick 35 point first half lead on Rutgers so that JJ can practice 40 yard downfield passes to Andrel Anthony, that’s not what’s going to happen. That is not who Michigan is. And by Michigan, I mean Jim Harbaugh. We may beat Rutgers 78-0 again, but if we do it will be 6-0 at halftime. Michigan will crush Rutgers, but they will take their damn time about it.
Also at 7:30 PM on NBC/Peacock: #4 Clemson @ Notre Dame. The Big One in the ACC. I am not sold on Clemson at all, and Notre Dame is starting to put some things together. Clemson is living on borrowed time and will have to pay up at some point. That point will be tonight. Notre Dame will beat Clemson and knock them out of CFP consideration.
Finally, your Pac-12 After Dark Special(s) - meaningless crazy football just for the fun of it:
At 10:30 PM on FS1: #12 UCLA @ Arizona State. This is one of those classic Pac-12 After Dark Specials where weird ju ju happens at night, and an unranked forgotten team at home rises up and bites a higher ranked team in the ass. Will it happen tonight in the desert? It will look like it for a while but then UCLA will break the spell and remind everybody who they are and who ASU is. UCLA will win it.
Also at 10:30 PM on ESPN: California @ #9 USC. This one is Pac-12 After Dark in name only. No crazy surprises here. Cal won’t be a threat to USC, and the Trojans will keep pace for the Pac 12 Title.

Always good to go fancy schmancy M-Dog. Fwiw, pretty sure Clemson will not get the calls they got against Syracuse. Have a feeling some of their luck will run out tonight. Not sure it will be enough for them to lose to ND but it might.
November 5th, 2022 at 12:03 PM ^
Thanks as always for putting this together.
November 5th, 2022 at 12:06 PM ^
Lot of rain and wind in Madison today; both teams' first drives were 3-and-outs. Hope y'all bet the under!
November 5th, 2022 at 12:10 PM ^
Some really, really bad news from Texas A&M. Does anyone know the reasons so many are out?
November 5th, 2022 at 12:11 PM ^
I blame Michigan's tunnel.
November 5th, 2022 at 12:11 PM ^
Illness is my understanding.
November 5th, 2022 at 12:14 PM ^
Today will be their 6th loss. Looks like no going Bowling this year.
November 5th, 2022 at 12:16 PM ^
The Texas A&M Return On Investment is . . . underwhelming.
November 5th, 2022 at 12:25 PM ^
They were 6th to begin the season.
November 5th, 2022 at 2:20 PM ^
At least they will still be eligible for the Desmond Howard playoffs.
November 5th, 2022 at 12:11 PM ^
Looks like Gerdeman is trying to tell us something. Did A&M's NIL policy violate NCAA rules?
November 5th, 2022 at 12:21 PM ^
They are probably all sitting out while their agents' re-negotiate their contracts.
November 5th, 2022 at 12:10 PM ^
OSU actually called for holding, so that's the one they get each month.
November 5th, 2022 at 12:13 PM ^
I took NW +37.5 knowing 3 things: weather can be a great equalizer, OSU is soft, and CJ Stroud is a pussy
November 5th, 2022 at 12:51 PM ^
Agree, agree, agree
November 5th, 2022 at 12:13 PM ^
Please, please, please give us this Evanston weather in Columbus on November 26th.

Here's the official watch grid from the Shutdown Fullcast's (the world's only college football podcast) very own, Jason Kirk:

The official "Sickos Game of the Week" is an Osu vs Northwestern.
November 5th, 2022 at 12:14 PM ^
Really have to cut Tuimolau if you're going to throw WR screens to his side. Dude reads them real well.
November 5th, 2022 at 12:17 PM ^
Nebraska came to play today versus Minnesota.
November 5th, 2022 at 12:21 PM ^
Atrocious spot prevents an OSU first down, pretty sure it gets overturned on replay.
November 5th, 2022 at 12:24 PM ^
TCU is what Michigan would look like if Harbaugh allowed any of the OC’s to run an offense not from the 1980s.
Michigan would not be be able to keep pace if they played them.
November 5th, 2022 at 12:27 PM ^
And give up 40+ points a game. Why trash UM? Enjoy the high powered offense by TCU that will get swallowed by B1G teams.
November 5th, 2022 at 12:31 PM ^
Because that's all this dude does. He exists to trash Jim Harbaugh. Beat OSU, win the B10, make the CFP, start the next season 8-0? Nah, not good enough for the almighty UM_Ftown. Gotta bitch about the fact that you're not beating teams by enough.
And TCU just gives up a touchdown on a total defensive botch. Sonny Dykes can coach offense but he doesn't know shit about defense.
November 5th, 2022 at 12:31 PM ^
Tied with a 4-4 team with no offensive TDs?
November 5th, 2022 at 1:51 PM ^
You mean an offense that scored 0 touchdowns in the first half against Texas Tech. Pass.
November 5th, 2022 at 12:27 PM ^
Stroud really lighting it up early in this one
November 5th, 2022 at 12:28 PM ^
Northwestern hanging tough early.
November 5th, 2022 at 12:28 PM ^
Northwestern has the right idea being physical. Ohio State is still SOFT.
November 5th, 2022 at 12:29 PM ^
July drive from Northwestern? They are displaying a shocking level of competence so far.
November 5th, 2022 at 12:30 PM ^
I just turned the game on, but Northwestern is absolutely gashing OSU. I know this won't last for the entire game, but...WOW!
Edti: And now they have the lead! Holy crap that was easy. Go Wildcats!
November 5th, 2022 at 12:31 PM ^
OSUs run D is getting gashed.
November 5th, 2022 at 12:33 PM ^
Ohio State not like actual physical football.
But Jim Knowles...
November 5th, 2022 at 12:53 PM ^
They have a run D?
November 5th, 2022 at 12:31 PM ^
NW will lead 21-10 going into the 4th quarter and lose 21-38.
November 5th, 2022 at 12:31 PM ^
Northwestern goes right down the field running the ball 7-0 Cats
November 5th, 2022 at 12:32 PM ^
OSU just getting gashed on the ground. You love to see it
November 5th, 2022 at 12:32 PM ^
We run that play without the wildcat frippery what, a dozen times a game?
November 5th, 2022 at 12:33 PM ^
Lolcats on top of OSU haha
November 5th, 2022 at 12:33 PM ^
NW OC is so happy. Here comes 50+ unanswered points by OSU.
November 5th, 2022 at 12:35 PM ^
not happening. they are soft......look about as happy as a bunch of wet cats in the rain.
November 5th, 2022 at 12:34 PM ^
Cats run it straight down Ohio State's throat when OSU knew that was what was coming.
Heh.
November 5th, 2022 at 12:34 PM ^
Definitely encouraging to see OSU’s run defense is talked about by commentators as if it’s improving, but it’s not passing my eye test. Short passing game also seems to work well, so I think Schoonmaker/Loveland might have a banner day against OSU.
November 5th, 2022 at 12:35 PM ^
7-0, you hate to see it lol.
Does anyone have an explanation for that spot not being overturned on the Stroud scramble? It seemed like one of the clearest ones I've seen, but the announcers just let it go after the review and said they agreed with it after they saw it again.
Is it it supposed to be where the ball is when his foot lands out of bounds?
November 5th, 2022 at 12:35 PM ^
Wait....what? Northwestern scored? Are you guys trying to punk me?
November 5th, 2022 at 12:35 PM ^
Let’s go Cats!! Nice drive. Pretty much ran all over OSU. Stroud has looked pretty bad even with the wind considered. Doesn’t look like he’s even been close to completing a pass.
November 5th, 2022 at 12:35 PM ^
OSU's finesse offense doesn't know what to do when they encounter inclement weather. They are a Big 12 team that can't handle anything that isn't 70 and sunny.
November 5th, 2022 at 12:36 PM ^
Ohio St D Line ain't what it used to be. Even the great and might Kerry Coombs didn't fix it.
November 5th, 2022 at 12:36 PM ^
Come on MD. Rain advantage Wisconsin.
November 5th, 2022 at 12:37 PM ^
I don’t live too far from Evanston. The wind is straight up nasty today. Certainly going to impact things. This might be something where you’ll see bursts of scoring depending on who has the wind.
