Time to say goodbye to BPONE

Submitted by Wendyk5 on January 1st, 2023 at 12:11 AM

Guys, 2023 is the year we need to let go of the Black Pit of Negative Expectations. Say no to self-pity. This is what happens to great teams. They play other great teams, and only one wins. Just ask Ohio State. It's not 2014 anymore. Or 2020. Let it go. And happy new year!

You realize BPONE has taken over the basketball program, right? They’re most likely going to lose later today at home.

The loss is hard to swallow but the truth is that these were two great football games to watch.  The team made a lot of mistakes but we should be proud of the effort.  It was a great year and the future is bright.

If Michigan didn't make even 1/2 of those mistakes, the game would not have been competitive, and everyone would have been talking about how soft the Big 12 is.  TCU is not a great team.  Watching Georgia is like watching a different level - a level that Michigan had a chance to reach but then shat on itself.

We've climbed out of the pit and have entered  Phase 2 which is Careful Optimism about Championship Setbacks or COCS.  I think we could all use a dose of COCS right now.  I had very little COCS the past 2 years, but this year I will embrace COCS. I imagine I'll wake up tomorrow feeling COCS. I think the fanbase can share our COCS with each other so we all feel better.

I think BPONE is done once it’s no longer mentioned on the board. I also think if it’s something the board wants to use as an anecdote every time the team loses, it really needs to be used for games we tragically lose i.e. last second FG, Hail Mary, etc.

No real BPONE today as the team made their own bed for all the mistakes and poor game plans. They were close at times but at no point did I think “they deserve to win” just because I’m part of this fan base.

BPONE dies once the fan base accepts the losses we deserve and forgets that sports are entirely up to players and coaches who play them. I always thought BPONE is a losery way of thinking and typically is cyclical in nature. No more woe is me. Move on.

No, keep your expectations low and receive the same results. They said for weeks that the goal was the national championship and they lost to a 3* team who wanted it more. BPone still exists but it's at a more expected level. OSU should NEVER BE THE CEILING

Agree to disagree. Beat Ohio State. Anything else is gravy.

In fact, for me, a 2-10 season where we beat MSU and OSU is better than the opposite.

(Also, stop paying attention to what players "said for weeks" leading up to any game. It's all sports talk. The day you find athletes saying, "we're not planning to win -- we're just happy to be here" let me know. Until then, expect a lot of "our job's not done, and we've got higher goals.")

Beating OSU is absolutely the ceiling, not in what we can achieve, but in what the goal is going into the season. If you think they should start overlooking OSU in pursuit of some other goal ... well, you and I disagree. (In fact, I think OSU has gotten tripped up the past few years because they keep thinking a win over Michigan is automatic).

I agree 100%, but I still want a National championship so effing bad. I just want to play for the thing.

It's HARD to get this far and it's excruciating when you feel like you should have gotten one step closer.

Michigan will be great next year...especially if Corum comes back. But if being a Michigan fan has taught me anything, it's that this shit is not guaranteed. OSU was one USC game away from missing on the CFP. They won 11 games and it still almost wasn't enough.

It's hard to get into this thing, one slip up and you're praying multiple teams lose. You've got to be so close to perfect and that's a difficult ask of any team.

TCU is not a great team.  They won because of horrific decisions and horrific play by an arrogant, unfocused Michigan team.  Without stupidity on Michigan's part, Michigan wins by 3 scores.   Georgia is a great team, and Georgia does not make all those mistakes.  Georgia will win by at least 20 points and TCU will go down as a good, but very lucky team.

We've beaten OSU twice in a row. Kicked their asses, even. Agreed, and I think with some time people will get a better perspective on how great these years have been, disappointing end aside.

BPONE should be gone for good. You are correct, we lost in the CFP to a very good team. We got slugged in the mouth, got up, fought back, landed some shots of our own, and fell just short.

I love where our program is right now
