Throwback uniforms for ND. I know, it's April 1st
Much a-twittering going on about Brian Kelly apparently revealing that Notre Dame would wear throw-back uniforms (maybe like these) for the Michigan game this year. At first, I read it as just being ND wearing the throwbacks, but I guess the reports are that Michigan would too (block M and number on the helmet or something). I'm about 80% sure this is BS, but it's out there, so we can now begin our favorite Mgo pasttime - furious messages about fashion.
Update: Here's an article with some more detail. I was wrong about the M being on the helmet - apparently it would be on the jersey itself. So, if that's true, we're talking really old, like late-19th-century? But that doesn't make sense because then we'd be mixing and matching uniforms from one era with helmets from another? I'm confused.
I like this helmet...very cool. I own a modern one but this would look awesome opposite the new helmet. Any idea if these are for sale?
I did 2 mins of google searching without a lot of luck other than mini-helmets (maybe this is as well?). Thanks.
EDIT: Found here for $200
As of the Big Chill the place across the street from underground printing on South U. sold them, not sure of the price though and I can't remember the name.
Our uniforms obviously wouldn't change other than helmets, which doesn't make me hate this completely, but it would be very strange...
FWIW I think someone on here posted within the last couple weeks about how his friend in the department said we would wear uniforms with the old school adidas logo for the game but he didn't mention the helmet change.

That look will definitely out due this...
Army pulled this look off incredibly, OSU on the other hand, not soo much
When was that? Hideous.
OSU is wearing those for the spring game
That's their "honoring the military" helmet? Looks more like an "honor the rabbit-ear antenna with no reception" helmet.
The rabbit ears only work if you hold it in exactly the right place and don't move it around. It's actually quite simple.
it says in 3D "Happy Easter !!"
Wrapping tin foil around them also helps reception
either that or a buckeye has something to do with birdshit.
Like this?
They're SO old school compared to these
YES! We should totally come out in black-and-white.
[Insert race flamewar here]
I always knew you were Jason Whitlock!
It has black & white, color, and an explosion!
Desmond Howard confirmed it during a NYC event a couple of months ago.
What is the "it" that he confirmed?
That they're wearing throwbacks for the ND game, smartass.
I'm serious. You didn't make it clear (and still aren't) if you're talking about Michigan or ND. I'm not sure what throwback Michigan uniforms would look like.
Why would Desmond confirm anything about ND?
Desmond said Michigan will be wearing throwbacks for the ND game. He said it at an alumni meeting. How much more clear do I need to make it?
Go fuck yourself, jmblue
SIMMER DOWN SIZZLE TITS!!!!
That escalated quickly!
haha, yeah and go get me some ice tea MFER!!
We've never had a block M on the helmet. We've had two designs: a plain black helmet and the maize and blue wings/stripes look. The only alteration has been to add numbers on the sides in the '60s.
Numbers on the side of the helmets is OK as long as we're still wearing the standard jersey color combos for the game.
ITS HAPPENING!!!
That happens and I'll be puking at my seat.
Then again, after 12 hours of drinking that may happen anyway.
Keep in mind, white on white has happened in the past. Also, the wing shape and lines have altered throughout the years, even if only slightly.
We did wear white pants at one point. Just Saying.
Interesting highlight reel. This was one of those "almost but not quite" scenarios for Bo in the NC game. My favorite part was at around 3:15, when Rick Leach goes all Denard on Oklahoma and runs a bunch of QB keepers. He is a surprisingly slippery ball carrier.
Michigan's run game and defense are very traditional and very 1970s Bo: fullback hand-offs, option plays, and running up the center again and again. Oklahoma is running the old Wishbone run attack. What suprised me the most was seeing only one 40-yard pass play in the half. I guess the defensive secondaries of the last few years have dulled my sensitivities.
I was 11 years old but I don't remember the white uniforms. Did they play road games in '75 in white uniforms. . I just remember it being a tough defensive game. Hard to believe this game was played over 36 years ago!
Considering that M has never really changed their uniforms much, wearing a throwback style seems pointless.
I guess this is just another piece of rah-rah nostalgia from the new regime. It's so reassuring to know that M Stadium is such a bastion of old-timeyness. Maybe those "new" scoreboards will actually be hand-operated too instead of the fancy videoboards everyone is expecting.
Screw the stupid 100 plus years of football tradition because everyone knows that Football before 1990 means nothing.
-Any SEC Fan-
I really doubt the new coaching regime is behind this. My guess is that it's something the athletic department concocted before they were even hired.
It's good to see you made a post without saying, "CowHoke". We're making progress here.
Personally, I hope the scoreboards get replaced with just a guy who sits up there and periodically yells out the score.
He also describes the play in lieu of video boards.
New official review policy at Michigan Stadium.
Human scoreboard: "eh, looked like he got a foot down from up here."
I say we go all the way. I want the 1901 turtlenecks with leather shoulderpads, no helmets and basically combat boots instead of cleats.
I also want Brady Hoke in a three-piece suit wearing a bowtie and a fedora, and possibly smoking a cigar.
That would be epic along with the dreads flowing from the leather helmets...
Can you imagine the imagry of Hoke pointing his cigar holding hand in a players direction and yelling from under his fedora?
We need to get the pickle salesmen back and whiskey in all of the concession stands.
The Fielding Yost experiment of having live wolverines on the sidelines needs to be used too.
As long as they can mortally wound their dumbass leprechaun mascot, I'd definitely be fine with that.
What are the college sports fan demographics like in Bloomington and the surrounding area? I imagine it's a pretty serious B1G town with IU-Purdue and all that, but how many Domers are in the area? Pro-wise, I bet everyone follows the Colts.
