Through 9 weeks, IU not OSU has the #1 passing offense in the B1G
They also are in year one of being in a new offense with a new coordinator after moving on from Mike DeBord in the offseason.
Michael Penix: 110-160 (68.8%) 1394 yards 10 TD's
Peyton Ramsey: 113-157 (72%) 1302 yards 9 TD's
Shea Patterson: 135-236 (57.2%) 1773 yards 12 TD's
Justin Fields: 128-186 (68.8%) 1659 yards 24 TD's
Sort of illuminating comparing and contrasting to UM's passing offense.

They're beating Penn State in two weeks. Minnesota will beat Penn State this weekend, starting an emotional implosion in Happy Valley that sees them lose 3 straight and limp into their final game against Rutgers 8-3.
Sorry, just trying some fan fic here.

Where does OSU's other loss come in so we can still win the B1G?
November 4th, 2019 at 11:55 AM ^
Rutgers!
November 4th, 2019 at 12:52 PM ^
That would probably be 5x as big as App State upsetting Michigan. At least App State was like the Alabama of FCS.
There are literally high school teams in this country that could beat Rutgers in a game of football.
November 4th, 2019 at 12:15 PM ^
Maryland. They get revenge for the game last year, which they should have won. MacFarland and Leake run wild, Josh Jackson bumps his head and wakes up believing he's the promising QB he was at Virginia Tech several years ago, and Locksley's offense finally gets into gear in week 10. Separately but related, Alabama loses by scoring only 2 points via a safety in a game against (insert opponent that week). It turns out Locksley was in fact the sole reason for Alabama's success while he was OC. Saban admits as much in his post game presser and retires in shame.
Locksley tries to tweet-flex on Gattis, but it's lost on the public as Michigan ends the season with a 73-0 beatdown of the Buckeyes and Gattis is hired to replace Saban. OSU wins the B1G East, but is voted out of the B1G Championship by virtue of its humiliating loss, and Michigan goes in its stead.

You're looking at this all wrong. OSU will win the Big Ten but it will ring hollow, when...
Penn State finishes 9-3, third in the East.
Iowa beats Wisconsin, but loses to Minnesota. Wisconsin wins their other remaining games. Both Iowa and Wisconsin finish 9-3.
Minnesota wins the West before playing Wisconsin, loses to Wisconsin, finishing 11-1.
LSU beats Bama this coming weekend to cement themselves as #1 in the CFP rankings. LSU finishes 13-0 SEC Champs.
Michigan beats then-undefeated OSU to finish 10-2, second in the East. This matchup is something like #2 vs. #9. Following this game, Michigan jumps OSU in the polls, and is now ranked #6.
OSU beats Minnesota in the Big Ten Championship, but having a loss in the final regular season game against a top ten team, OSU is out of the playoff. Minnesota is out of the top ten.
LSU beats #5 Georgia in the SECCG and it isn't close, something like 17 points. Georgia falls back in the top ten.
Clemson finishes 13-0 ACC Champs, #2 in the CFP.
Oklahoma and Baylor split their regular season and Big 12 CG matchups, eliminating the Big 12 from the playoff.
Alabama finishes 11-1, #3 in the CFP.
Oregon finishes the regular season 11-1. Utah loses to UCLA, but wins the South and then beats Oregon in the Pac 12 CG, eliminating Oregon from the playoff.
Michigan gets the 4th seed in the CFP and the college football world loses its mind!
But wait, there's more. Don Brown ain't scared of your air raid, and Atlanta draws just as many Michigan fans as LSU fans. Having weeks to prepare for a Notre Dame-caliber defense, Michigan's defense sufficiently frustrates Heisman-winner Joe Burrow and Michigan's offense gets enough to pull the upset, 27-21 over LSU.
Alabama exacts their revenge over Clemson in the other semi-final.
Michigan Alabama National Championship game.

Don't they only need to lose 2, with one being OSU? They OSU needs to drop another game and if we beat them (LOL) then that's 3 way tie. We'd get the tie-breaker because OSU's other loss will be Rutger or Maryland (LMAO), and Penn St will be Indiana, and ours is out of division.
November 4th, 2019 at 1:54 PM ^
PSU will lose at OSU, and it's theoretically possible that they can lose up at Minnesota.
However, there is no way on earth they're losing at home to IU. At worst, they're going into their last game with Rutgers with 2 losses.
November 4th, 2019 at 3:37 PM ^
Wouldn't be surprised if IU played them tough. PSU will be looking ahead to OSU. IU will be looking to have a statement win. This game will be closer than most people think.
November 4th, 2019 at 11:52 AM ^
So many people fawning over OSU this year yet they have played no one of note aside from Wisc (just after being exposed by Illinois) and a Cincinnati team that hasn't beaten anyone.
To put them above LSU or PSU right now is a bit much.
November 4th, 2019 at 11:54 AM ^
You've got to be kidding. I trust you'll be betting on Penn State in Columbus, then. Godspeed with that.
November 4th, 2019 at 11:55 AM ^
They're destroying everyone they play and Cincinnati and Wisconsin are good teams whether you want to admit that or not.
November 4th, 2019 at 2:49 PM ^
OSU seems like a very good team this season. Though there are some things that could be questioned about the two apparently toughest teams they've played thus far.
Cincinnati's coach Luke Fickell played at OSU and coached there for a long time. I've read reports about him still having great love for his alma mater. He was at that school for about 15 years.
Therefore, I don't trust his desire to really motivate his team to derail OSU's season.
A person could argue that Wisconsin was totally demoralized after losing to Illinois and were no longer ready to play OSU.
November 4th, 2019 at 11:58 AM ^
So many people fawning over OSU this year yet they have played no one of note aside from Wisc (just after being exposed by Illinois) and a Cincinnati team that hasn't beaten anyone
Trust me, I wish it was true and they suck, but come on.
- They've annihilated every single team they have faced
- They beat T25 teams in Cinci, Wisky and Indiana by a combined 131-17
- They're #2 in total defense
Trust me, I wish it was smoke and mirrors but they look great this season. We've had one common opponent and it was a game in which they won by 31 and we lost 21.
November 4th, 2019 at 12:47 PM ^
Yeah I don't get the delusional aspect of some takes here. out of the top 5 they have the toughest SOS so this whole they have played nobody just makes us look jealous and petty.
November 4th, 2019 at 6:41 PM ^
I never said OSU was a bad team - they certainly deserve to be in the top few. However, you state they've "annihilated" everyone they've played. My response is: who have they really played? A good, but clearly flawed, Wisc. A Cincy team who is undefeated yet not played strong competition (UCLA does not count, despite their recent performance). Sparty and Neb teams that could go 0.500 this season or worse. An Indiana team that is slightly better than normal. NW, FAU and Miami-OH. Blowouts against those teams don't mean much - and the "hardest" of those games were all at home. If it wasn't for the recent resurgence of Cincy (occurring after OSU scheduled them), they would have had possibly the weakest non-con schedule in the Big Ten.
OSU could still certainly prove themselves the best team overall. My point is that they haven't yet.
November 4th, 2019 at 12:53 PM ^
this is a prime example of why they throw around " Their fan base is delusional" and it's justified. Out of the top 5 they have the toughest SOS, so how is it they have played nobody. Wiscy had until their game the number one defense in the country. Cincy, while yes they don't play a super tough schedule, is actually a pretty decent team. The fact you think they shouldn't be above Ped State right there shows your bias and inability to understand the game. This is the same Ped State that struggled to beat Pitt and Iowa but yeah sure had some "top notch" wins against, Idaho, Buffalo and Maryland. Sorry if I don't fawn all over them thinking they are out there destroying tough opponents. Hell how we played the second half against them should alone show you they are overrated. They barely beat us.
I hate typing this but aOSU DOES look to be the most complete team in football right now. The more we slight them and take shots at them lessens a win against them for us. I'd RATHER them be the most complete team and thought to be #1 when we play them.

November 4th, 2019 at 1:00 PM ^
I'd put them as #1 right now if it were up to me. I don't see them with any true weaknesses right now. They've absolutely destroyed everyone they've played, have one of the best RB/QB tandems in America. If not the best. And that is not including the guy who is arguably the best player in America right now in Chase Young.
The only reason I'd put them at 2 is that LSU does have a flat out better resume right now. But their defense is down a peg or two this year.
This is probably the BPONE talking, but put LSU and OSU on a neutral field and I'm taking OSU. Hell, I might even say the same about Alabama, given that Tua has looked extremely mortal in the last few truly big games he's played.
November 4th, 2019 at 1:26 PM ^
Its not only who you play but also how you handle your business. OSU's 34-10 win over Sparty is their closest game of the year. That has gotten a lot of attention.
Whatever, OSU has its chance to prove its bonafides vs. Penn St. and UM. Both should be very good games.
November 5th, 2019 at 3:52 PM ^
That they haven't played anyone other than Wisconsin misses the biggest picture.
They've beat 2 teams by 24 points and that is their lowest margin of victory.
1 team scored 21 points on them, the most points 8 other teams have put on them is 10.
So far they have been a wrecking machine and if we can even be competitive with them I'll consider it to be a moral victory.
November 4th, 2019 at 11:57 AM ^
#1 according to what metric?
Fields has a better YPA than Penix, Ramsay, and Penix and Ramsay combined. Fields also has more TDs and fewer INTs.
IU certainly has more volume in their passing game but that doesn't necessarily make them #1.
November 4th, 2019 at 11:59 AM ^
Yards. Thought that was self explanatory.
November 4th, 2019 at 12:20 PM ^
Not everyone around here is from Traverse City.
November 4th, 2019 at 12:04 PM ^
Yea, this is another weak troll attempt at Michigan's offense. Anyone who follows analytics even a little bit knows using pure yardage totals doesn't tell you much in how good a team is or not, especially in today's tempo game.
November 4th, 2019 at 12:15 PM ^
Why read more into it than what Maizen posted? Not a bad post, and it (IMO) has nothing to do with Michigan. The most interesting stat in there is attempts. Michigan has attempted more passes than all of them, and I alI hear is, "why don't we throw the ball more?"
November 4th, 2019 at 12:34 PM ^
Except the first two guys both play for Indiana. So roughly 90 more pass attempts and 900 more yards. I'm not saying we should pass more, just pointing that out.
November 4th, 2019 at 12:17 PM ^
Yeah totally. It's not like Indiana has the #16 offense in the country according to SP+. Oh wait they do. I'm sure you already knew that since you follow analytics and all.
November 4th, 2019 at 12:21 PM ^
...and OSU has the No. 5 offense, making this whole post irrelevant.
November 4th, 2019 at 12:27 PM ^
It's irrelevant that statistically IU has the most passing yards in the B1G? You're just looking for an argument at this point and being a prick in the process.
November 4th, 2019 at 1:05 PM ^
Come on. Just stop, say the title was misleading, you cannot edit it or you would and stop the nonsense.
November 4th, 2019 at 12:39 PM ^
4 of Indiana's wins have come against teams who combined have 5 total wins this year.
They've only played one team with a winning record (OSU) and they scored 10 points.
The only other two teams with a defense in the top 60 in SP+ they've faced were MSU and NU, both top 20 defenses. They did put 30+ against MSU but lost that one by two scores and they dominated NU. NU literally has no offense (126th in SP+) so tough to say if that was more Indiana or NU's defense giving up.
We'll see what they have the next two games vs PSU and us.
November 4th, 2019 at 12:41 PM ^
And SP+ adjusts for all of that. The raw numbers and the analytics both say IU has a very good offense.
November 4th, 2019 at 12:47 PM ^
Yes the numbers do say that. And it may even be true.
We'll see when they've played two more top 6 SP+defenses. The only team they've played with a defense of that caliber held them to 21-36, 215 yards passing, 6.0 yards per pass, and 1 pick, with 257 total yards and 10 points.

November 4th, 2019 at 6:37 PM ^
Hard to keep a good man down
November 4th, 2019 at 12:03 PM ^
Indiana is going to be a pain in the ass.
November 4th, 2019 at 12:08 PM ^
Maybe. But it really depends, IMO, on how well Don Brown neutralizes IU's offense. M is going to boss the LoS and run the ball really effectively. I'd expect them to really limit IU's running game, and I can't see Don Brown getting beat by dudes named Penix and Whop.
BUT, if M's offense flounders a bit and Penix creates yards with his legs, then it'll be another death slog Bloomington game.
