Three #1s: Elysee Mbem-Bosse to also wear #1
Rumored for a long time and now confirmed with the photoshoot.
Team graphic designer Aaron Bills sent every player a graphic with their name and number on it in the new uniform.
Eubanks and Crawford are both #1, but now it appears EMB is also #1. Only the second defensive player to ever wear the number in the two platoon era of football.
My understanding of the numbers is that there will be 2 to 3 players at a number. If they see the field, they'll change numbers so it won't be a penalty.
For example, Kinnel was #17 last year (same as Canteen). Then his redshirt was burned,so he switched to #23.
So technically, we have three #1s. It will likely be shortened to just two, one on offense and one on defense.

Three #1's? That's how many times Braylon used to drop passes every game.
Not against Michigan State he didn't.
I'm just preemptively retaliating against the inevitable complaints from him.

I think Harbaugh is showing Braylon how much he "appreciates" it when alumni try to run the team.
There are multiple guys with playing potential sharing numbers, like Wheatley and O'Korn, right? This smells like a coach-designed move to increase competition, doesn't it?
Love the idea of telling them they can have whatever number they want but have to compete in some way with others who want the same number. Perfect Harbaugh.
for Mad Max reference
I now have the overwhelming urge to photoshop Harbaugh's mug on top of Tina Turner's neck.
I though I'd read somewhere (here, of course) that the dudes on the same side of the ball that want the same number were competing for the number.

They are. I guess whoever sees the field first, gets the number.
Oh come now. Admit it. You have no clue how Harbaugh is assigning player numbers.
I've made it pretty clear that nothing is set in stone.
Both in the OP and that comment. "they are" as in they're competing for them.
you have no idea if they are competing for the #'s or not. You are just making stupid assumptions.
Oh really? Because I talked to a freshman lineman at the launch party Sunday and he said they are competing.
Surprised to see three scholarship players with the same number. Usually, it is a mix of offense/defense and most of the time a walk-on has a duplicate.

That would appear to be a good sign. Either he's playing on defense or both he and Taco will be on special teams. Since he was originally projected higher as a SAM type and we never heard of him progressing at running back this is probably a good sign that he's not just going to be an injury loss.
We clearly don't have a true FB this year or Khalid would not be switching over. I wish some of these guys would see the light. Kingston I'm not quite sure yet. We haven't seen (heard) enough to know if he can be a TB yet.
That is a crucial position for Harbaugh so honestly I'd like to see Shallman become an every down type of FB who can run it like Houma and destroy people like JK.
It was his first spring...but he should've been playing FB/H-Back from the moment he set foot on campus.
His non-position change is just as frustrating as never moving Josh Furman to weakside LB from Day 1 where he should've redshirted, bulked up, then played well at that spot.
Not to bad mouth a player but the kid acts like a pretty boy. Dude should be Brian Bosworth by now and a bad ass. Them facilities and a full ride and you aren't cracking skulls yet? Comeon man! Change your mentality or cut the hair and quit worrying about which conditioner is best for your split ends.
Uh huh.
Reminder that some of the freshman numbers are not necessarily what they'll wear if they play this year.

Which is why worrying about this is so stupid. You're basically worrying about what number a kid is wearing at PRACTICE.
We talkin' about practice.
No one is worrying about anything. I think this is great.
And it still counts as them wearing #1. It will be recorded as such in the Bentley library DB, just like O'Korn wore #5 last year but didn't play a snap.
Edit: nevermind
They're freshman...could play special teams. But worrying about it and giving updates every time the wind blows is silly. Let's figure out who is going to play and who isn't before we worry about it.

Yes, but you have to admit that it is news. It's worthy of a post. A defensive player wearing 1 is interesting, no?

I prefer the old method of "earning" the #1. Forget Braylon, it's an affront to Anthony Carter's legacy to be giving that number out to anyone who wants it. The #1 jersey at Michigan had a special meaning and was part of our mystique...and I hate to lose that. I didn't mind at all when the "legends" numbers were used, but this is different, perhaps because my introduction to Michigan football occurred during the AC years.
Now all of you kids get off my lawn!!
There's nothing that multiple NCs won't cure

The "old method" was literally to hand it out. Bo always gave it to an incoming freshman as a recruiting lure. He handed Carter the #1 when he got to camp in summer 1979. Braylon Edwards is the only receiver in Michigan history who had to earn the #1.

What about 11?
--Properly attributed to Ricky Bobby
Three guys wearing #1 is openly saying to the players either one of them won't play this year or it's just a lockerroom number as they'll have to change numbers before seeing the field i.e. one of these guys will never actually wear #1 in a game
I read his name as M-Be-M, Bosse.

I read it as MDEN BOSSE.
I think I've read too many Jumpman threads today.
