Thanks Coaching Staff

Submitted by Look Up_See Blue on

It's unbelievable how our staff rolled over and died.  I am sick to my stomach right now.  This game is completely on the coaches.  They didn't put their players in a position to win this football game.  And don't delete this thread, beacuse Brady Hoke will be the first one to tell you the same thing I just did.

One thing is for sure: the honeymoon is over for this staff. They are now subject to the same brutal fan scrutiny as RR and late-era Carr. Hoke won't let Borges go after this year, but if Borges coaches like this next year, the heat will start to work its way up toward Brady.

Unless we wish to gauge things by hopes and dreams (Borges plus a junior Shane Morris will be great!), the offense is not trending up.  We have steadily and significantly declined from 2010 to 2011 to 2012 on offense -- be it total yards, first downs, etc.  Al Borges might be more entertaining at press conferences than Greg Robinson, but his effect on the offense is similar to Gerg's on defense -- steady and significant regression.

Hoke and Borges should know that you have to play to win against OSU. With the "up the middle" runs and very little of Devin and DRob in the game simultaneously. Urban Meyer had to be smiling. We served it up on a plate for them in the 2nd half. Hoke better wise up, or he will be out. I love the guy, but that performance in the 2nd half was not Michigan.

It was a generally well coached game until the 2nd half on both sides. The defense kept balling out and was the sole reason it was a single score game as our 2nd half offensive gameplan was just odd. Starting with us going for it on 4th & 3 from OUR 46. We trot out a QB who literally cannot throw the ball. So, they stack 9 in the box and their back end didn't even so much as stand still or backpedal for a second. They knew Denard = run. Sure, we had a couple decent runs and a great one in the 1st half but by that 4th down call they knew he couldn't throw and sold out. Yet, we kept doing it. Gardner would fire a strike for 15 and then we'd sub him out for 3 Denard keepers?!? At best, throw for 7 before gaining zero running power and then put a one armed Denard to gain 3 against essentially 11 in the box. Just bad. I feel bad for the defense as Miller didn't beat us. The defense played very well! I don't get the 2nd half offense, though. Should we fire Borges? He did cost us 2 games alone, IMO. Yet, bothered as I am, what he is working with is tough as he is essentially being asked to do offensively what Gerg was asked to do defensively.

No O-Line, No D-Line ... Hyde could have had 5 ypc running backwards. DG had no chance without a running game under center. OSU brought the house. Even Lewan got owned by a freshman today. We lost in the trenches and in the turnover battle. It's a team loss.

I wasn't particularly thrilled about the 2nd-half playcalling either.  But if we take the long view of things, we played an 11-0 team on the road and lost the turnover battle, were pretty clearly dominated at the line of scrimmage, and lost by five.  It couldn't have been that bad of a gameplan.

We had chances.  Schofield's holding penalty, Gardner's failure to scramble on the subsequent 1st and 20 and then the D giving up a 3rd and 7 on the ground - if we make the right play any of those three we may have won.

Mattison had a monster game in my mind. The Ohio State offense was in Michigan territory the entire second half and was held to two field goals. Borges, did not have a good game, but I don't know if it was as terrible as it looked. Ohio State's D made some adjustments and really stepped up. An athletic D played well at home in a rivalry game. It happens. Either way, I expect Michigan to be very good next year. Gardner is obviously your go forward QB and he will only get better. The D will be good with Mattison. The future is bright in Ann Arbor and Columbus. Congrats on a good game.

So you didn't know it was a run every time Denard was in at QB? Got it. You should feel lucky you can't go to a bowl bc of your decade of cheating. You'd get rolled just like you always do

The only coach that didn't pull his weight today was Borges. The first half he was aggressive and innovative. In the second half he coached scared and predictable. Everyone knew when Denard was in the game we were going to run the football every single time. You're telling me on that 4th and 3 he couldn't have completed a 3 yard pass to keep them honest? Urban Meyer just went unbeaten with an average team. When he gets his players in they're going to be 11-0 playing us every single year. Hoke needs to get more involved with the offense and trump the terrible, predictable play calling that coat us the game, a bcs bid, and a possible bcs bowl. Absolutely fucking pissed right now.
