Texas and OU to SEC in 2024
Being reported a deal has been made. Big 12 will get 100 million in exit fees
February 9th, 2023 at 8:08 PM ^
Damn, OU and TX really want out of that conference!
February 10th, 2023 at 11:40 AM ^
Watch out SEC, Sarkisian inbound. Don't f**k'n touch him.
February 10th, 2023 at 2:28 PM ^
Would your rather lose or Alabama or be potentially upset by Houston or Cincy? It worked out pretty well initially for Missouri, maybe they’re ready?
February 9th, 2023 at 8:09 PM ^
Mind boggling amount of money.
February 9th, 2023 at 9:07 PM ^
$10M per school, that’s enough to hire MeLLLLLLL for 1 season
February 10th, 2023 at 6:16 AM ^
So by that math, Mel will last 7 total losses to Michigan
February 9th, 2023 at 8:14 PM ^
Why do I feel like this move puts our upcoming games w/ both on the endangered species list, if they weren’t already there?
February 9th, 2023 at 8:48 PM ^
Yeah, those games are as good as cancelled. And i was really looking forward to an away game in Austin
February 9th, 2023 at 9:16 PM ^
Warde Manuel is salivating at the thought of scheduling Arkansas State in place of Texas
February 9th, 2023 at 9:22 PM ^
Vandy, you can still promote that the SEC is coming to The Big House
February 9th, 2023 at 9:20 PM ^
Actually benefitted us! We now host Texas in 2024 and visit Austin in 2027
February 9th, 2023 at 9:23 PM ^
Yep. Shut me up.
February 9th, 2023 at 9:58 PM ^
/jk, awesome news!
February 9th, 2023 at 9:20 PM ^
Update: apparently, the series was a crucial part of getting Fox on board with the deal.
February 9th, 2023 at 9:46 PM ^
why would that 'flip' be of importance to fox?
February 9th, 2023 at 10:14 PM ^
I believe because they would have had the game at Texas in 2024 if UT was still in the Big12.
This way they still lose the game in Austin but it is delayed — plus they are better assured a game between top teams ..imagine the early-season hype of Sophomore Arch Manning and new SEC entrant Texas vs. Freshman Jadyn Davis and the 3-time repeat playoff participant Wolverines from the Big House in AA.
February 9th, 2023 at 10:21 PM ^
i understand that the game would've been in TX next year if the schedule isn't changed. my question is basically: why would fox care (and be more pleased with) whether it's played in AA or down in TX, the viewing audience is essentially unchanged. but maybe i'm missing something.
February 9th, 2023 at 10:50 PM ^
I don't get it either. If anything this should be worse for Fox, because they were (probably) going to get the game in Ann Arbor regardless of whether it was in 2024 or 2027, but now they lose the game in Austin.
February 9th, 2023 at 11:02 PM ^
I'm thinking if Texas is in the SEC in 2024 a game in Austin would be under the domain of an SEC network not Fox.
February 9th, 2023 at 11:08 PM ^
Because the game would not be on Fox if Texas is in the SEC and the game is played in Austin.
February 10th, 2023 at 2:37 AM ^
With the SEC likely going to 9 conference games, a bunch of future games are going to be cancelled. There is no guarantee Texas would ever play Michigan either home or away. This way, Fox gets maybe THE early non-conference game of the entire 2024 cfb season.
February 9th, 2023 at 8:18 PM ^
oh man , i put together a big post about this
February 9th, 2023 at 8:21 PM ^
Really think this is a moronic move by OU specifically. Texas already sucked in the Big 12 so I guess it doesn't matter to them either way.
February 9th, 2023 at 8:24 PM ^
I agree…OU is on its way to irrelevance with this move. Going from big fish in small pond to 5th or 6th best program in the conference…if they’re lucky.
February 9th, 2023 at 9:03 PM ^
Reeks of Arkansas joining the SEC from the Southwest, OU is obviously a better program historically then Arkansas, but Arkansas went from a program that can compete nationally every once and a while to fighting for third place in the division.
February 9th, 2023 at 9:22 PM ^
Seems weird for Texas too. They have to shut down their own TV network because of this.
February 9th, 2023 at 8:22 PM ^
Good luck with that.
February 9th, 2023 at 8:35 PM ^
But how shall we survive without the Longhorn Network?
February 9th, 2023 at 8:40 PM ^
Bad move for both schools imo
February 9th, 2023 at 8:56 PM ^
Texas has never been relevant but OU is on its way to irrelevance with this move. Stupid move that they will regret
February 9th, 2023 at 9:30 PM ^
Did you forget about the Vince Young years?
February 9th, 2023 at 10:24 PM ^
Really, that entire decade. From 2000 to 2009, their worst finish was 9-3. They went 11-1, 12-1, 13-1 and 13-0 in various seasons; they lost to Alabama in the BCS Championship in January 2010 after Colt McCoy went down with an injury in the first quarter. I don't know if they would have won with McCoy, but his replacement threw four interceptions and didn't complete half of his passes.
Since then, their best season has been 10-4 with 5 losing seasons.
February 10th, 2023 at 7:52 AM ^
That decade is why Texas always gets the 'they're back' treatment early in each season. And it's why Mack Brown is revered as an all-time great coach.
February 9th, 2023 at 8:45 PM ^
So...who gets this $100million exactly? Schools and programs? Or just like, lawyers and suits?! Can't wait to learn it's more the latter than anything else.
February 9th, 2023 at 8:47 PM ^
Another thing I heard today on Siriusxm 84 is the Pac 12 is looking at SMU and SDSU. Kliakloff was supposedly at the SMU bball game last night with some other Pac 12 people.
February 9th, 2023 at 9:33 PM ^
I heard that yesterday on local LA radio. Fresno State was also mentioned. I think SMU and SDSU would be preferred because of the Dallas and San Diego TV markets, but does SMU really draw eyeballs?
February 10th, 2023 at 8:41 AM ^
The PAC-12 is on an elevator / escalator - and, it isn’t on the way up…
February 9th, 2023 at 8:47 PM ^
Moronic move IMO. Yeah I get it, money talks, but instead of ruling the roost in the Big XII, now you’re going to find yourself a fairly consistent 7-9 win team every year. You ain’t getting past Saban or Smart, and Brian Kelly, for all of his faults, may have something to say down at LSU as well.
February 9th, 2023 at 8:52 PM ^
The defense played in the SEC will be a hard lesson to learn by OU and UT. They're going to get their face smacked hard when they roll out that ass-flavored Big 12 defense. I mean, even Kiffen's Ole Miss is going to drop 40 on them while playing defense not good enough to keep a DC employed.
February 10th, 2023 at 8:43 AM ^
I just reviewed the media guides for all Big 12 teams. In the appendix, there’s a section for definitions - you know, key words, acronyms, terms, etc. To no one’s surprise, “defense” was not mentioned and couldn’t be found anywhere.
February 9th, 2023 at 9:17 PM ^
The big-bad-it-just-means-more SEC is scared of the B1G and it’s money grabbing 2024 expansion
🎶Moneytalks🎶
February 9th, 2023 at 9:20 PM ^
There goes the divisions in the SEC after next year as the SEC says they are gone after UT-OU join. Hopefully that will entice the B1G to do the same as they are woefully stupid.
February 9th, 2023 at 10:19 PM ^
Okay.
But how does this affect the balance of power in CFB Risk?
February 10th, 2023 at 9:02 AM ^
A bit of an aside, how will Texas joining the SEC impact Recruiting budgets in the conference?
February 10th, 2023 at 9:59 AM ^
Texas and OU paying a kings ransom to lose more often than they usually do is quite funny to me.
February 10th, 2023 at 10:27 AM ^
A bit of a tangent. How many conference losses do you think Texas and Oklahoma will average in their first three seasons in the SEC?
It’s an 8 game conference schedule - and, I wouldn’t be surprised if the averaged three conference losses each season - so a conference record of 5-3, with four OOC cupcakes that may include an FCS school - to bring their overall record to 9-3, or 8-4.
Get your popcorn ready…
