Couch is 5'9 148 lbs. Reminds me of another Terry Richardson. Not sure why he was being recruited in the first place to be honest. Probably time to turn up the heat on Julian Barnett. DJ Turner out of GA is committing in a few weeks and reminds me of Blake Countess, which, meh. Akeem Dent is visiting in the fall but that's probably a long shot. Not sure where the staff goes from here. Should be interesting.

What makes you think we have a shot to flip Barnett? I don't pay for any of the recruiting sites and it's been a while since this site did a recruiting roundup. Is there a consensus that he's flippable? Seems like a longshot to me considering he goes to Belleville.

The narrative that Belleville is steering their kids away from UM needs to stop. Their head coach explained everything on twitter and it echoes exactly what Sam Webb has been saying about the situation over there for months. As far as Barnett, Allen Trieu posted that he thought the door was open for other schools and that he was probably going to take a few visits. Barnett has also said in the past he was still open to other schools. He is also to Ambry Thomas and his primary recruiter at MSU Harlan Barnett took a job with Jimbo Fischer after he committed. I think it's a race worth running so to speak if you're Michigan.

You have a good point, but it's probably not going to change anything for a few reasons:

1.  The in-state recruiting shenanigans that happened during the Rodriguez era left an impression on folks that most local Detroit coaches have an in-built anti-UM bias, or if nothing else that they have grudges against UM that MSU staffers have easily exploited in the past.

2.  Wheatley is gone and there really isn't a local Detroit-UM guy on staff to keep up that connection and so people assume that everything is going to go back to what they consider normal.

3.  We all love Sam Webb, BUT his job depends on access and so he is going to spin things as positively as possible, so him defending the Belleville coach and program and painting it in the best light possible is hard to take as an exoneration.

4.  Twitter, outside of the breaking news aspect, exists for two reasons, virtue-signalling and ass-covering, so a Twitter explanation seems suspect as well.

For what it's worth I don't understand why a high school coach would want to develop a reputation for turning a kid against the local powerhouse and so I go with Occam's razor.  In this case the razor says that UM football isn't exactly a compelling value proposition right now and so all recruiting, including local recruiting is going to be harder until Harbaugh proves that whatever Gremlins make the team play like shit on the road and keep the O-line from being any good are gone.

the Bellview coach did trash Michigan on twitter, then came back with his tweets on how he is a Michigan fan - the latter tweets come across as more of a saving face thing as opposed to the trashing Michigan tweets

does Michigan need to work on things?  sure

is the Bellview coach a Michigan fan?  unlikely

does Sam Webb need to walk a tightrope to maintain all his relationships?  likely

is the sky falling?  no

does Maizen / Bluey enjoy ripping Harbaugh?  I would say he delights in it - probably a RCMB troll or Bucknuts as 999% of what he posts is negative - there is a reason his Maizen account was banned

Maizen wasn’t banned. He just said so many stupid things about Beilein that were unbelievably wrong that he can’t post under that name because everyone knows he knows nothing about basketball and was only trolling. It is actually the exact same thing he does with football, we just haven’t made a national championship game yet to shut him up. As soon as we take off under Harbaugh (as we have already started), he’ll create another account and troll a different way. He’s a miserable human and I’m not sure why he isn’t actually banned yet

Is Barnett even a DB? I had watched his HUDL video at least two times and there are a grand total of three plays on his highlights where he is even playing DB. Most of the defensive plays, it looks like he has his hand on the ground.

I just watched it again and it looks like he has taken virtually all of the defensive highlights out of the video. He does look like an excellent WR prospect - which we certainly do need as well. Point being that we should definitely pursue but he may not be the answer at CB.

Bummer he decommitted, but two decommits? Does this kid end up falling into the Chris Clarke, Vicious Vic Viramontes bucket?

I have no opinion on couch,  but I wonder how many kids who have committed to multiple schools have worked out.  5-stars tend to be in the NFL more than 4-stars, etc., but how often do the mulitple commit kids work out?

Steve Lorenz seemed to feel it was inevitable, looks like he was right.

It's always tough to pull a guy that far away from home and the April visit was going to get further and further away in his memory as time went on.

The Spring visits are nice to at least get the exposure, but I almost think of it as bring in someone plausible who can go back and tell his buddies how much fun he had and pique THEIR interest for a fall visit is likely the best outcome.  With a spring visit commitment that isn't LOCAL-ish actually staying with the class being an unanticipated bonus.

Good Luck Te'Cory.

Have zero problems with a guy grabbing a fall back commitment even if they hope it gets their first choice school is step up their interest.

That's why even losing Otis last year was not a biggie, he wanted to be a Bulldog and they slow played him knowing he was theirs when they wanted.

Plus this gives us more slots to sign all the State of Mi guys we can! Amirite?

It's never a good thing to lose a 4-star, but but I seem to remember his commitment was a bit of a surprise. That's what 247 says as well. I'm never surprised when a deep south kid with no direct ties to Michigan or the midwest decommits, though.

I can't verify the background of his original commitment via a search on MGoBlog since there's no actual search function.

Not really a huge loss, hasn't Michigan recruited around 7-8 Corners in the past couple classes?
