Spring Game Visitors

Submitted by Magnus on March 31st, 2023 at 8:18 AM

I've been keeping a handy dandy list of spring game visitors going. Though if you click the link below, be prepared to understand that some of these players have visited during the week. It's sort of a pain to differentiate who's visiting on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, or for the game that isn't really a game.

Here's the LINK.

Of course, many are expecting Charlotte (NC) Providence Day 5-star quarterback Jadyn Davis to commit to Michigan today on SportsCenter. There's also some buzz that Kansas City (MO) Rockhurst offensive tackle Andrew Sprague (4-star, #9 OT, #160 overall) will commit this weekend or soon thereafter.

I will keep updating the visitors list, as I'm sure it will change several times over the next couple days.

Happy spring game weekend!

Feels like an exciting day for Michigan football. I have no idea if Davis will be an elite QB at Michigan, but locking up his commitment seems monumental for an entirely different reason. If this class turns into a top-5ish group loaded with talent, it will feel like not only have the last two years been great, but that success may be sustainable. LFG!

Champeen, respectfully - I disagree.

You have to look at the perpetual stranglehold that Georgia, Bama, and OSU - among other schools - have had on recruiting for over a decade.

Players who committed last year - really, didn't know if Michigan's '21 season was a "flash in the pan" or something sustainable.   It seems that Michigan's win over the Buckeyes in '22 reflected some "sustainability".

The interest of a prospect - and, their short list - it begins several years before they commit.

I'm not downvoting you, but I dont think last year would have mattered much.  You have to remember that last years class had already visited other schools and had their hearts set on where they wanted to go long before Michigan beat osu and made the playoff.

Recruiting a top 2022 class was going to be tough. Michigan wasnt even ranked at the start of the 2021 season. The 2023 class had over a year to visit and consider Michigan, and see them beat osu twice.  I think that extra year of dominance makes a difference.  Not to mention seeing all the players that are returning to complete the job, and see the awards the players are getting.

King,

IIRC, Ryan Day - the "Just for Men" spokesman who sidelines on third base as the head coach of Buckeye football - addressed a group of Buckeye Boosters and told them "We need a few million to just keep this team together".    He said that a year ago.

So, infer as you wish - but, it sounds like those Buckeyes had a "let's get dough to the guys on this roster - by whatever means necessary - and, I need YOU to come up with the benjamins."   Perhaps - the inference is - those boys in Columbus had more than a bit of "brown bagging" going on before NIL.

No teenager's memory is going to be holding on to Jim's flirtation with the Vikes at this point.  I believe the question of "Is the coach actually leaving or not this year?" is the only salient issue in recruiting.  The rest is noise, and to say that top recruits are incapable of filtering that out is demeaning to them, they are smarter than that.  While Harbaugh's posturing last year certainly raised the question for last year's recruiting, it has no bearing on this year.

This recruiting moment feels like Michigan has just taken possession of the ball up 31-23 in a nerve wracking game. We are all thinking, 'just put together some first downs', then ...

Thanks for the update!  I upvoted, despite that you can't differentiate who's visiting on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, or for the game that isn't really a game!

LOL!!!  Hope you have a good weekend!

Underwood has been up like 3 of the last 4 weekends or something like that. It’s a stunning difference in how aggressive they’ve been with elite QB recruits and how that’s paid off with reciprocal interest.

Hearing everything about Underwood being a generational talent and how people view him to be like Justin Fields in college, I REALLY want him to come to Michigan. I really hope that JD committing doesn't scare him away. But I imagine the person who is likely to be the overall #1 recruit in the country won't be scared.
