You get beat like that your coach should have to show up for the presser with the skin peeled off his face while in a neck brace explaining the hot chick on yor bike coach Dantonia. Love me some Hoosiers

But I was very impressed with iu's defense. It's like bizarro world the offense looked crappy but the d looked good. Or sparty is aweful, either way I'm happy. Michigan grad, whose dad played football for Indiana in the mid 60's. It's odd the difference in expectations, when Michigan loses I'm devastated, when Indiana loses I try to see if I can still count to six.

That roughing the snapper penalty was goddamn justice. Exact same thing should have been called on the msu punt last year. Can't get over such a blatant disregarding of such a simple rule

My fantasy:

We beat them 42-7. At the press conference, Harbaugh steps up and says "Where's the threat?" Drops mic. Walks off stage.

Pride comes before the fall.  It was awful prideful to print up all of that "The road begins here for Back to Back Championship" crap that Dantonio did.  How is that back to back championship drive coming along at 0-2 in conference play?

I'm really starting to believe all of the rumors regarding mike dantoni's health and him wanting to retire in the next 4-5 years. He looked really bad last night. And he seemed off. I really felt like he had thrown in the towel there towards the end

My favorite post from the RCMB meltdown:

"MIST said... (original post)

Not watching the game, O'Connor really this bad or is Indiana D this suffocating?"

And he was serious.  I don't enjoy as much MSU schadenfreude as many on this board, but that is some seriously funny shit right there.

Is Sparty in danger of not being bowl eligible?

Remaining schedule:

BYU

Northwestern

@Maryland

Michigan

@ Illinois

Rutgers

Ohio State

@Penn State

If Mike D doesn't right the ship Michigan, OSU are easy losses, and I got to think @ Penn State is likely loss too. BYU game is huge, if they lose that one all they'd have to do is lose one of:

Northwestern, @Maryland, @Illinois, Rutgers.

Those games might seem unlosable but when morale drops anything can happen, especially on the road.

Since we are competing with MSU for a couple targets, its not just schuedenfraude.

Penn State is not likely to beat MSU. They are pretty terrible.

I think MSU has 2 likely losses:

  • OSU (guaranteed loss)
  • UM (not nearly as much of a sure thing as OSU, but looks likely)

3 games where both teams have a realistic chance to win:

  • BYU
  • @Maryland (night road game, Terps have looked strong this year, could be looking ahead to UM the next week)
  • @Penn State (could be tough on the road, but PSU is also very bad and MSU matches up very, very well against teams with horrid OLines. Also, Sparty has Dantonio and PSU still has Franklin)

3 games MSU will win barring a colossal upset:

  • Northwestern (in EL and NW has as horrid an offense as State, if not worse)
  • Rutgers (I know State has looked bad, but they haven't looked even close to Rutgers bad, and the game is in East Lansing)
  • @Illinois

I see 5-7 as the floor for MSU, but it's not likely at all. I think they will win at least one of the three games in that middle category.

MSU will probably finish 7-5, with 6-6 more likely than 8-4 at this point.

One of the objective areas of improvement in Dantonio's tme is that after a loss, he stopped the tailspin nosediving. In that era after Duffy Daugherty and Biggie Munn, the problem was often consistency. Even in the George Perles era, they had a very hard time stringing together good seasons and putting losses behind them.

Next week will be a big test. BYU is not a great team but their 3 losses were by a total of 7 points. It is in East Lansing but a dinged up MSU missing Malik McDowell (ejected for an admittedly dubious targetting call - but as Mike Perrira on Big Ten network noted, that is the way the language of the rule is written) and several LBs, might give BYU a chance. If BYU can score early and often and make it into a shoot out, they might pull off the upset.

Sparty No reminds me of a specific book(No David) that I have read to my son several times.  At the end of the book and now in MSU's reality, they need a hug from mama to make them feel alright.
