Some guy on the internet claims he has a source: Morris to start at QB; Gardner to start at WR

Submitted by julesh on

Some guy on reddit claims he has a family member inside who says Morris will start, and Gardner has been taking reps at WR. Never believe anything you see on the internet, and all that, but thought I'd pass it along in case anyone is interested.

I did not say that, I say in regards to them running a higher tempo he is. He has great grasp on protection schemes, but gets tired of does not shuffle his feet. They believe slowing the tempo down is a better alternative than him not playing.

Was DG even that good as a wide receiver?  I honestly don't remember.  He is really atheletic and fast for a QB but not for a receiver IMO.  He kinda gallops and doesn't have a smooth stride you expect from wrs, nor does he seem to have the agility and footwork needed to be an effective route runner.   If he were to return to WR this year, would he actually be an upgrade over Darboh or Chesson (aside from his height advantage)?  Me thinks no.

He had 16 receptions for 266 yards (16.6 avg) and 4 TDs in eight games in 2012.   I do remember him having trouble catching balls in traffic though, but that might have come with time.  I think he had the potential to be really good if he'd stayed there.  Now, having gone back to QB for two years, he'd be pretty raw.

As I've said before. I'll verify my sources to the right person. I do not want to jeopordize my family's position. If there is a trusted member of this website, point me to him and I'll square it away.

I really like DG. Dude has maize and blue blood through and through and has given his all for the team. He may not have put up crazy numbers, but I think he's earned 98 with all the crap he's had to put up with (backup QB, then WR, then QB and getting turned into bone dust).

I am one of the mods here, responsible for some of the content management duties around the blog. You can find me on Twitter (see the link in the signature line) or I can produce an e-mail address that you can use. The general rule here is that we try to avoid unverified rumors, but if there is something that you can add which is more solid than what is currently here, that would probably be a good idea.

The guy in that thread claiming to have an inside source is giving a lot of very specific information. It almost seems too specific to be wild ass speculation. I am inclined to believe this guy has a source that is giving him this info. How reliable his source is, is anyones guess.

The only thing that seems a bit weird is that he said this is surprising. This is not surprising. I mean I think it's the 3rd most likely option of these:

1. Keep DG as QB

2. Start Morris as QB (DG as backup)

3. Start Morris as QB (DG as WR)

4. Peppers as QB (because PEPPERS)

Whether Morris is a better choice right now is clearly debatable. Whether Gardner's long-term future would be better served by moving him back to wide receiver is not.. I doubt there are many on this board who think Gardner is likely to succeed as an NFL QB. On the other hand, I suspect many do think he could succeed at wide receiver. Those chances are enhanced if he plays the position the rest of this year.

Whether or not this is true, it might not be a bad idea for Gardner to play a different position to show alternate skills to NFL scouts.

Because unless he has a spectacular rest of the season, it's hard to imagine him being drafted as a QB.

I too am a guy on the internet that knows people within the program. Words on the street is that the reason Ondre Pipkins hasn't been seeing too much playing time at NT is that Hoke and Nuss are prepping him to be the QB of the future.

Can we stop we these threads now?

Garrett Moores will start at QB on Saturday.

My source is Bleacher Report.

I would post the link but I have to write the story first.

Thank you for the Info. I also apprciate your willingness verify your source with Mods but need to keep it secret. I once gave a bit too much information on this board that I recieved from a recruits dad who is a friend/coworker. Things got a little awkard when another schools coach asked him to ask me to keep our conversations between us.

I'll tread carefully out of respect for the source's wish not to give out specific information about who and their particular position within sphere of Michigan athletics, but if what they said in the e-mail I received is correct, then they would be in a position to hear certain things - not comprehensive information perhaps, but some information. I will put it that way.

You handled that well.  I'm confused about the verification process that he keeps describing.  So he emails you guys and says, "Hey, I know [Player / Coach / Staff Member / Media Guy / Whomever] X."  It's not like you can then call that guy up to double-check the source, unless you happen to know the guy.

He definitely could be right - in fact, my instincts say that he is - but it seems weird to me that he thinks he's somehow been "verified."
