Softball vs. Kentucky open thread
Thanks for reminding me, I am almost ready to go home, I can turn it on then.
We need a little retribution for last year.
Michigan is 66-36 all-time in the NCAA Tournament. They have a record of 68-33 against SEC opponents and the all-time series record with kentucky is in favor of Michigan, 3-2.
Michigan faced kentucky earlier this season on February 18 in the FAU Kickoff Classic, which MIchigan won 3-0.
Can't get the big hit. 0-0 bot 1. Michigan is wearing the away white over blue. Haylie is pitching. We are home team.
Interesting discussion of HW's increased velocity. I would not trade 1/2 inch of location for 1 mph. Also interesting discussion of lefties by the commentators.
Stitting at sugarbush taven, TV has no sound.
That she pitched in the 50's last fall and has increased into the low 60's now and highlighted the prominence of lefty pitchers due to lefty slappers.
Be able to get on base but can't push a run across. two on in the 2nd inning too. Bot 2 0-0
1-0 good side
What a gutsy call. The left fielder had the ball 2 steps BEFORE PR Crummy had reached third base on the base hit. Hutch was wheeling crummy home all the way. Hutch must have seen something in the left fielder.
Heading into bot of 4 we lead 1 to 0.
Sweet, runner was out by a mile. End of 5 still 1 to 0.
For tigers game. Can I get an update plz?
Still 1-0 going into the final inning.
2 outs, but kentucky has runners at 1st and 3rd.
2 outs runners on the corners
Throw to second base was dropped.
jeez....that was a turd sandwhich of a play. not sure why you just dont get the out at 1st to end it.
might even have been safe had it not been dropped.
all the SEC girls are cute. even the athletes.
not even saying that cos I married a Bama girl.
shit another error
should of went to 1st instead of 2nd .game would of been over
Wow.....that shortstop has had 2 bad plays in a row. This UK jinx in softball is already old.
Make that another fielding error, as the SS couldn't handle the sharp grounder. 2-1 Kentucky heading into the bottom of the 7th.
Haven't followed as much as I would like to this year, but how young is this team this year?
UK 2, UM 1 - 9-1-2 up to bat.
Leadoff batter gets a base hit.
Bree Evan hits into fielder's choice. 1 out, runner on 1st.
Awesome win! I love being wrong!
...save me from my nightmare of having to play Valpo. I don't know what i'd do.
um, probably watch something other than softball.
that was a heck of a way to not have my nightmare come true.
what a freaking gut punch.
oh well. go blue.
Louisville scares the hell out of me because that's what they do. Earlier this year they beat rival Kentucky off a slapper home run in the bottom of the seventh (or maybe bottom of an extra inning). Any team with the combination of luck and will to do that is scary, especially when they repeat it multiple times in a season.
Nicole Sappingfield gets a base hit. 1 down, runners on 1st and 2nd. Amanda Chidester at bat.
Chidester pops out to LF. 2 out.
Hell yea Freshman......way to come through
Sara Driesenga doubles and scores 2! Clutch hit - full count, two out.
Whatta comeback!!! GO BLUE
GO BLUE!!! Way to go ladies! I'll eat crow all weekend!
GO BLUE!!!!!! That was seriously a hell of an at bat.
A 1-run win counts the same as a 10-run win. Good to see the true freshman staying cool under pressue.
Wow. That should be a top 10 play on SportsCenter...if not the #1 play.
Cool they win, wow, what a finish.
I quit drinking and the wheels come off.
Wow, what a great game. My cousin graduated HS with Driesenga. Not quite a year ago, and now she's doing that.
We need these girls to get the swagger back. Having a freshman come through like that will help now, and in the future!
SEC! SEC! oh wait
i got pissed and turned it off
Don't watch the next game.
Hopefully we keep up the intensity. Its not like we couldn't get runners on base. What did we have, 6 LOB?
Tomorrow 3pm. Televised on ESPN2 again I think.
ESPN2 Showing College Lacrosse tomorrow at 3. ESPN has a Softball game on but says Teams TBA but doesn't say what region. I would imagine that would be us?
Losing 4-3 now.
Win for the ladies today they really needed a big win like that to power them through the weekend!
We're on ESPN tomorrow.
Out at the bar with that game on, drinking...Good times.
Go BLUE!!! i missed it was at work. I wish someone had a full copy of the game? beat the mighty SEC....
Wow, that actually turned out to be a bit of a roller coaster, didn't it? Hail to the Victors and Go Blue!!!
need to get the big hit earlier. In the first 2 innings we had 2 on with less than 2 outs.
In softball, a runner on 2nd base is NOT considered to be in scoring position. It is rare that a base hit directly to an outfielder will score a runner from 2nd base. Although Hutch did this with our first run.
We need some key hits like Sara's. This has been our problem all year.
Runners on second and third base are both considered to be in scoring position. Why? Because all it usually takes to score that runner on second base is a base hit. There are some circumstances when this is not true (a slower player, or a very weak hit that makes it to the outfield) but generally speaking, they will score with a good base hit.
runners on third are but not second. The outfielders are only playing150-160 feet or so from home plate. In most cases a runner who tries to score on a base hit will be thrown out.
In baseball however, runners get to lead off and the outfielders are over 200 feet away from home plate.
