Softball Regional Finals: M vs ND (BTN @ 2pm)

Submitted by MGoSoftball on

The Regional Finals are on BTN at 2pm.  We play ND, who beat Miami (OH) 5-0 in the losers bracket yesterday.

If we win our Regional today, we will play 15th seeded Missouri (42-14).  Missouri won their Regional in convincing fashion this weekend.  As a matter of fact, Mizzu was the first team in the modern SuperRegional History to mercy-rule all 3 opponents while not allowing a run.

We defeated Mizzu 13-0 back on 03MAR16 at the Judi Garman Classic.  Mizzu has not done well with ranked teams during conference play this year (7-9).  They split with #6 Alabama, went 2-3 against #16 Tennessee, went 0-3 versus #10 Georgia, was 1-2 with #12 Kentucky.  They swept #16 Texas A&M in 3.  They lost to SC in the opening game of the SEC tournament 7-4, but went 2-3 vs SC in the regular season.

Mizzu only faced one ranked team in non-conference play.  The lost to #7 Oregon 8-7.

We have to get through ND today before we can worry about Mizzu.  The IF game will be later today, "if" needed.

No one does, to be honest, but given that they continue to troll conferences by occasionally joining them in every other sport but football and carry with them perhaps one of the whiniest fanbases in college sports and none of this makes any impression on them, I am going to assume that they are OK with that. All the better when we beat them, when any team beats them.

#9 Kentucky needs to beat Utah twice or face elimination.

#13 Tennessee lost to Arizona and needs to win 2 from the Cats today.

All other seeded teams are 2-0.

One team of note is #7 James Madison.  The Dukes are 48-4 this season.  They are 7-2 against ranked teams.  They defeated #17 UCF, #12 Tennessee, #3 Auburn, #15 Arizona twice, #23 Nebraska, and #21 Arizona State.

The Dukes loses against ranked teams were against #5 Alabama 2-1 and #23 Nebraska 8-4.

So overall these young ladies have made a statement this year.  Good luck to them (except against us).

The announcers have seemed to be pretty good this weekend, but I must say that they like using the phrase long levers, at least with respect to Susalla. Such an odd phrase...
