So Joe Milton hasn't picked Tennessee just yet

According to Sam Webb, Joe will decide this weekend between Tenn, and Wash St.

I absolutely wish Milton the best, and wish him success. I was a big believer in him and still believe he has potential.

But the most Michigan thing ever would be him choosing Tennessee and bringing them back to national prominence... ?

I never understood anyone believing that he was going to be THE guy for UM.  He completed less than 50% of his passes in HS.  Just like Shane Morris.  I never understood that hype.  Another big armed guy that completed less than 50% of his HS passes.  Those guys never work out at the college level.

Even with his thumb injury, his completion percentage was 56.7% for the season.    He threw for.68.2% against Minnesota and 62.7% against Michigan State.  I think people may be surprised to see what Milton does with the rest of his career if he gets a chance, his thumb is totally repaired and he doesn’t suffer anymore injuries.

His completion percentage was a result of dump-offs and short throws. When teams realized that and made him throw downfield, the results were not great. That may have been thumb-related. He'll have a chance to prove the doubters wrong, that just won't be at Michigan. Good luck to the young man.

I remember that the hype on Milton was always about what a cannon he had for an arm - how he could throw the ball 75 yards, or whatever the distance was.

And I thought, well, that's great - but can he hit what he's throwing at? Kind of like a pitcher who can touch 100 on the radar gun. It's nice that you've got a strong arm, kid, but can you throw strikes with it?

Because if not, you're not going to be much good to us.

Was a lot of confusion about his choice to go to Tennessee with their QB room not necessarily looking like it would be a great spot for him to see the field. Wouldn't be surprised if he would up at Wazzu.

I know we band together and stick behind our own a lot, but regardless I just hope this kid/these kids figure their life and school out and find time to enjoy this sport for themselves before it all comes to an end.

Is it true that when he was benched, he'd drop 50 on us ?

i digress... hes transfterring because he couldn't get job back and knew it.... so why not go to a MAC level team in need of a starter...

Joe Milton transferring to Washington State just seems weird to me, I think that Tennessee is the choice and this decision is just a little extra drama. But who knows, maybe he will prove me wrong and go out to Pullman. Either way good luck to him.

I cant believe a guy with so little feel for football somehow started at Michigan and now is gonna get another P5 shot. I'm sorry but he's bad. I would be shocked if he started somewhere and even moreso if he didn't suck.

Edit- both our staff and Milton can be ass, and both are true. Dude's high school stats weren't even good. Sorry but he's bad at football.

That's a little extreme. In a shortened and very weird season, he did have one very good game. He had an injured thumb and played behind a battered line (and with a generally very bad team). And it was his first season of meaningful action.  It's POSSIBLE he can be a decent QB. You're working with a very limited sample size.

I think he had problems/weaknesses as a starting QB, but I certainly wouldn't say he sucked. I could see Milton finding success in a different, more QB friendly, offense. Not sure if it will happen, but it's certainly possible.

I'm more curious about why you logged in to tell us that he sucked, doesn't belong on a P5 team, etc. Did he steal your girlfriend back in HS or something?

Good luck to him wherever he goes. Seems like a good kid who just wants an opportunity, and he knew he wasn't going to get that here anymore.

Sadly, I'll never be able to think about Joe Milton without just sighing and wondering what could've been. Not because of him specifically. He always seemed like he was going to be a serious project in need of major refining. But because him starting essentially meant McCaffery was shown the door, which to this day I still don't understand. None of that is on Milton whatsoever. He took the opportunity that was given to him. It's all on Harbaugh and Gattis.

Unless McCaffery underwent some serious regression that was never made public, Harbaugh and Gattis both bet on the wrong horse and ran a great option out of town.

This.

All day long.

Hell, even look at HS tape.  McCaffrey is so far ahead of Milton both in ability and the quality of the teams they led.  Then McCaffrey gets to Michigan and suddenly forgets how to play ball?!  Nah, I call bullshit on this.

The thing is, we really don't know what the future would be with McCaffrey at QB. Are we sure they bet on the wrong horse? I mean, McCaffrey showed some nice things in his limited opportunities, but he didn't light the world on fire with his completion percentages (53% in n 2018, 50% in  2019). Some people think he would have taken the starting job from Patterson if he hadn't been hurt against Wisconsin, but the truth is that he was 3-8 passing (37.5%) in that game before leaving with a concussion.

And if McCaffrey is clearly a better P5 player than Milton, why did he transfer to...an FCS team?

Re: your question on why McCaffery transferred to an FCS team, I have to believe that its because his dad is the head coach. I have to believe that plays a HUGE factor into why he went there.

I don't think its a reflection on what he thinks of his own talent and that he's not good enough to play anywhere else. He may just want to be closer to home and get a chance to play for his father.

Completely agree, and this article would seem to support this point. But that raises the question: Did McCaffrey leave because Harbaugh and Gattis ran him out of town, or was the pull of Colorado and playing for his father just too great? It just seemed possible that he already had one foot outside the door, especially when he decided to stay in Colorado last summer.
