according to the article, those six assistants are

- Ed Warinner

- Jay Harbaugh

- Shaun Nua

- Sherrone Moore

- Mike Zordich

- Ben McDaniels

My question to MgoBloggers is who would you like to see extended?  Personally, I think Warinner has done a heck of a job, this year is a total pass with the OL and also probably Zordich.  I am curious to see what the rest of you guys think.

So be it, you want Jay gone, but he found Haskins, Corum, Charbonnet, among others.  Seems he has done ok... also had landed Asiasi if I recall correctly.   And I don't think it is him deciding who gets the carries.

Both coaches in football and basketball, have their kids with them.   Jay with Jim and Jett with Juwan, and maybe too Jett.   And add Warinner with his son, too.    I guess this is a tradition because Moeller had his son around, too, I think.

Nua beat out ND for McGregor, but wasn't able to pull a single samoan monster recruit to the east. I doubt he will be on staff.

Zordich did quite fine in the Durkin D.  Don't be surprised if OSU or Cinci snag him.

McDaniels probably had big hand in McCarthy recruiting.

McGregor was a heavy Michigan lean anyway. Nua just did enough to keep him.

I'm not sure if you've seen the Dline play but they are at or near the bottom of every statistical Big Ten category and the Dline is ranked 93rd in the nation.

So he can't coach and he's a subpar recruiter. I'm sure he does well in other metrics though.

Warriner, Moore, Zordich and Harbaugh, unless Warde plans on going in another direction with the HC then all bets are off. This would a perfect reason he would not announce an extension. At this point I'm "contract talk" burned out. All this worry of kids not signing because of the uncertainty is kinda ridiculous. If the coach leaves the NCAA wouldn't hold them to the commitment anyway.

Yeah, the fact this very site freaks out constantly about player development but would dump Zordich seems silly to me.  The secondary went from a tire fire to competent in basically 6 games this year; that's a great sign of coaching.  As for Daxton HIll, that's actually Shoop's job and, well, he apparently hasn't been coaching so it means some underpaid GA is actually doing the coaching.

I was honestly prepared for a new coach so I would say no one. If the new coach were to keep a coach I’d pick Ed.

I haven't seen much talk of this on the board or elsewhere so I'm not sure if it's unpopular opinion or not. I would like to see Jay Harbaugh replaced. He's been a utility assistant since dad hired him. He isn't uniquely qualified for any of the positions he's held and none of the position groups he's coached have stood out. The nepotism needs to end.

Can you explain why the TE's looked better in 2015-16 than any group we've had since?  Since he left that group, they've regressed each year (Moore is horrible with them).  The RB's have been okay, still averaging ~5ypc (which isn't all that, but is better than IU), and each back has greatly improved in blocking/blitz pickup.  Special teams have also been pretty good with him.  And he's a great recruiter - as good as Moore and better than everyone else on the team.

Your claim of 'nepotism' is an unimaginative, and emotional, reach back to 2015, when the argument was reasonable.  He's absolutely earned his place on the staff since then.

All that aside, he certainly needs to go outside the family to prove himself on his own, and now is as good a time as any.  So yeah, feel free to say that and get him off the staff - at least that's a valid reason.

Butt didn't earn anything until Jay was coaching him, and Ol' Skillet Hands improved pretty well, too.  Not only did Jake blossom into an All-American, he won the Mackey Award (nations' best TE) four years after Hoke recruited him, and two years after Jay started coaching him.  He also developed into a functional blocker with Jay - not good, mind you; but functional.

Jay took over ST with Partridge in 2016, after Baxter left.  Remember all the punt blocks?  Punt and kick teams have been solid to this day (including two years after Partridge walked away).

Sounds like Jay shouldn't have any issues finding a new job.  With a resume like that he should have programs knocking down his door to steal him away from Michigan.

But some food for thought.  If Jay Harbaugh is such a great TE coach, why did Sherrone Moore replace him?

Our Running back rotations have been comically bad under Jay. He has no idea what he's doing.  Whether it's leaving Charbonet in there vs Army and setting him back for that entire season, or forgetting about Haskins against Penn State. Those are his calls. (For anyone saying they aren't,  you have no idea what you're talking about. The position coaches set the substitutions during the games other than the scripted series to start each half)

Our special teams play under his watch has been downright putrid.

But go ahead, give him credit for Jake Butt lol.  You probably also give Jim Harbaugh credit for Jake Rudock's development too.

I don't think anyone has an answer for the idiotic rotation, but I'd be surprised - shocked - if a position coach is directing play calls via his substitution pattern.  It's pretty clear that certain backs run certain plays - and the RB position coach isn't calling plays...

Other than placekicking, what part of ST's have been putrid since 2016?

Butt was a Sophomore with no national hype when Jay took over the group.  You think he blossomed all on his own?  Since he left, we've watched TE's fail to run good patterns, fail to catch the ball consistently or very well, and fail to be good blockers.

Pull your head out of your hate...

I've got nothing but time today. How is he wrong? If your contract expires and is not renewed, were you fired....? If I have a contract with a printing company and then that contract expires and I am offered a better deal with another printing company and sign with them. Did I fire the last company?

John U Bacon on the Big 10 Sirius XM radio said that he only expects two assistance to be retained.  Warner and I think he said Moore. Even Jay will be looking elsewhere.

Warde just said John U can kick rocks, he doesn't know shit. But seriously, according to John U, Harbaugh doesn't have an agent, and he wouldn't be telling friends his plans, at least friends with loose lips. So Bacon's contact has to be Harbaugh, Manuel, or a regent who had to sign off on this contract stuff, so who should we believe?

I'd keep Warriner and Jaybaugh, and would have to speak with Moore and Zordich about it.  Moore can recruit, but his TE group has regressed in the two years he's had it.  They can't catch, can't run routes, and suck at blocking.  Maybe swap him with Harbaugh - let Moore coach RB's and move Jay back to TEs, and keep them both.  Two of the better (two best?) recruiters on the staff.  I have no idea where Zordich's mind is - he doesn't recruit, and nobody knows if he can teach a zone...

Any new coach needs to make Warriner a priority to keep.  Everyone else can go.

If Jay's TEs can't block or catch, why would we want him doing the same thing to the RBs? This Speed in Space thing needs to include those skills. Jay coached TEs before SiS was brought. Assuming Gattis stays, I don't want Jay coaching any position group that needs to block and catch well.

You have Jay and Moore flipped in your scenario...  Although I do get your point - if Moore can't coach a TE to block, why would we want him coaching a RB to pickup a blitz?  We wouldn't...

I'm ambivalent towards bringing back Jay - I do think he's a good coach, and he's a great recruiter.  But he needs time in his profession away from Daddy and Uncle John so he can better prove himself.  I'm less ambivalent towards Moore, shading to his exit.  But if you like his recruiting that much, fine...
