Sideline Staff for UM/ND to Wear Stars and Stripes

Submitted by Geaux_Blue on

Per MVictors, Adidas will be showcasing a "Stars and Stripes" edition of sideline gear via UM this weekend.

Edit: This post originally discussed a PR individual's gaffe in stating "jersey" rather than "sideline gear." Do not panic. Jerseys will remain the same. The matrix is not real. You took the blue pill. Nice day we're having, eh?

When had the away jersey ever meant anything?  The last Nike jerseys had only been around for a few years and had meaningless maize stripes as well, and that uniform was replacing another design introduced by Nike that had been around for less than a decade.

And really, you are worried about Adidas doing something goofy for every away game, but want to switch to Nike?

I first saw the headline and immediately didn't like it, but there have been some good thinking on this thread. So I am cool with whatever.  No big deal if they change things up in light of the date.

As long as it doesn't take away from the Michigan brand more so then Adidas already does then I am fine with it.  No problem what so ever to honor those who were a victim or a hero on 9/11.

For each game after 9/11, Michigan wore an American flag patch on the upper left part of their jerseys. It was a subtle, but fitting tribute. I don't see why the 9th anniversary of that event requires a special jersey.

I'm a vet, and I'm glad this isn't happening.  Even if it wouldn't be an affront to human decency, wearing special clothes is the kind of BS token gesture that I cannot stand.

Instead, do something meaningful, like donating all the money used to design, and the projected profits from, the new clothes and jerseys to the Wounded Warrior project.
