Sickos Committee Twitter Account: State of Michigan Logos
The Sickos Committee Twitter Account has had a running series of placing NCAA football team logos over the outline of the state. Michigan's turn was Friday. Makes for some fun images:
MAC (Plus Alternates)
D2/GLIAC
MIAA/Div 3
I don't mind the Michigan ones. The Lake State would be badass if the anchor wasn't orange.
That’s hope college, isn’t it?
Or is that Hope College?
It is indeed Hope.
Ah. Explains the orange. No love for LSSU
Speaking of which, I do not see one for LSSU.
I think they were sticking with football programs, which LSSU does not have
I don't recognize that lower-left one in the D2 group. I think it's:
Davenport, Ferris, GVSU,
Hillsdale, Mich Tech, Northern
????, Saginaw Valley, Wayne
Northwood
Oh good call, forgot about them.
The secret message is that there is hope for LSSU
No block S?
I have to admit the Alma one is pretty slick.
As an Albion grad, yeah, it gives me no pleasure that it's so awesome
I have no skin in that game, but a couple of my co-workers are Alma grads.

My sister went to Alma and my dad was on the board of trustees. Everyone thought I would go there too. But I only had eyes for M, and it's the only school I applied to.
The fifth one is an inverted map of Michigan. If it were a stamp, that would be worth a small fortune!
The green over gray Eastern ones look really good.
I like the alternate grey one that's got the concrete blocks. I've always kinda thought their whole concrete thing was kinda silly, but it is unique at least.
savage reminder of LEastern vs the impenetrable wall
They didn't even use Western's current logo/colors. That's the one the fans want back...
People hate change. That being said, they probably should have used the Denver Broncos logo so they looked more like a High School athletic team.
EDIT: The two logos are not identical, but the Denver Broncos logo is still all I think about when I see it.
Looking at it, the horse head is better, if only because it’s not just a stylized letter like the other MAC schools
Found it
Pretty cool. I like how the first Sparty one has the head fully inside of the lower peninsula. Howcome they didn't do that for the others?
Because it looks like a corgi is taking a leak on the Spartan?

I'm with you -- if you can't see most of the outline of the state, why bother? A bunch of these have the logo completely covering up the thumb, and almost all cover the Straits of Mackinac. What's the point of incorporating the outline of Michigan if you can't see any of its most noteworthy features?
Calvin College just started up a football program, and they probably did so because they learned this topic might someday be discussed on the MGoBoard.

I can't say Calvin University either, it will forever be Calvin College :)
I fully agree. As someone born and raised in the GR-area, to this day I also can't refer to so-called Grand Rapids Community College as anything other than Raider High (or sometimes as "JC").
Stay cool with Calvin College?
Pretty cool. I don't understand why one is upside down though.
I would also like to add.
State of emergency for Men’s hoops?
Cool! Like the Adrian one, my nephew played 4 years there went to a bunch of games. Always liked that they had an actual bulldog mascot at games and not just a scary foam suit (okay they had that too but still).
I had to scrape the image and then do a google search to figure out whose logo that was. Far and away my favorite. Adrian beats Georgia!
Hope does the same with Dutch people.
The middle logo in the "D2/GLIAC" block ... I think that's Michigan Tech? That one looks really nice.
You are correct. To the left of that is Hillsdale College, where I went. I think it looks pretty snazzy.
Where’s NAIA??
Ohio State must be THE most boring of these.
I've always like Wayne State's "W" emblem. And their color scheme.
Anyone know why the dropped the "Tartars" nickname about 20-30 years ago? And went with the generic "Warriors". Seemed like such a unique team name, with the bonus of having Genghis Khan roam the sidelines.

Wayne State dropped "Tartars" in 1999 ...... the reasons given were (1) nobody knew what the heck a Tartar was, and (2) it reminded people of the plaque/film that forms on teeth.
I wish they kept it .... Warriors is so generic and boring. A Genghis Khan mascot is NEITHER generic nor boring!
FWIW: there are 2* High Schools in America nicknamed the Tartars. (1) Taylorsville, Mississippi --- a very small zero-stoplight town in rural southern Mississippi, and (2) Torrence, California --- a pretty diverse upper-middle-class city in the Los Angeles South Bay.
There's also Compton, California's high school. They're nicknamed the Tarbabes: next-door Compton Community College is nicknamed the Tartars. So I suppose Snoop Dogg is a Tartar: he attended Compton CC for (almost literally) a brief minute.
Reading on the web, I have no idea how any of those 3 High schools or colleges came to their rather unique nickname --- especially the one in rural Mississippi!!! But they exist.

* 2 that I know of/could find.
they should have one with our logo over the state of Ohio-because we own their behind

Don't understand the appeal of your state's shape, seems like the laziest design inspiration possible. When I see the inelegant outline of Indiana on the floor at Assembly Hall, for example, I can't help but smirk at the artless lack of imagination.
Is the shape of Indiana that recognizable to anyone - "hey, that's Indiana!" What is it? Zoidberg with a high top fade?
Look, I'm pretty sure watching an Oregon game might give your eyeballs cancer, but at least it's a bold expression of what the state/school might be about.
What about Colorado or Wyoming? What if there were a rectangular state the exact aspect ratio as a basketball court? Williams from downtown Casper!
March 12th, 2024 at 12:45 AM ^
Per Wikipedia, Indiana's length* is 270 miles and it's width is 140 miles --- an aspect ratio of 1.93 which isn't that far off a basketball court's aspect ratio of 1.88 (94 feet by 50).
----
* However one measures length and width when a state has a river for its southern border and a chunk of its western border, plus a lake border indention in the northwest. But when you look at Indiana, you can sort of see a basketball court.

That's a chicken McNugget.

The M wasn't big enough as you can still see the State.
