SIAP: Saban on troubles handling Michigan NOT being no-huddle

Submitted by MMBbones on January 4th, 2024 at 4:43 PM

Saban was very respectful of Michigan players and coaches overall.

Sorry about the X link, maybe someone can post another source.

Something I haven't read here, but may have missed, is Saban saying M was the first team they played all year that huddled, and that caused them problems because it shortened the time their defense could respond to the Michigan formation. I assume he knows what he's talking about?

That is a persnickety concern, that Michigan huddled, given that Michigan ran a lot of their key plays that were out of one base offense but had a wrinkle. If Bama were trying to adjust to the formation that would many times play into Michigan’s hand. The truth is this was a close game that came down to a handful of plays Michigan guys made. Much like the Ohio game.

Remember all the outrage over Michigan's snap count and tempo earlier in the season from all the Madden kids? Turns out this Harbaugh guy might know a few things about this game.

This is funny and all but it’s genuinely remarkable how so many of the innovations of the last 15-20 years that we longed to see—no huddle and tempo, predominantly gun formation play calling, gun run schemes—have become so normal that the old stuff has become a serious problem. Even for Saban teams.

There was some thought when Harbaugh first started here that his older-fashioned inclinations with fullbacks and run schemes might be an advantage in the new era, and while it took longer than thought and doesn’t exactly look the way we expected, that was correct.

Wait.   Michigan has plays with two tight ends.  That’s a line with seven players in front of the QB / RB.

How can a team stop that with four (4) DL?

Oh the humanity.

I had no idea Harbaugh and Michigan were trying to confuse our opponents.

So Saban didn’t make 100 different excuses and blame some fanatic? When we knew Milroe was running that wasn’t Connor Stallions? If we win Monday, OSU fans will hock many a mobile homes to fund T dawgs and Brohios search for the truth. Spartys thread will reach 4 million views and the earth will spin off its axis for both programs. Please let us win in a blowout fashion. I’m not what you’d call a religious man, but had no problems monday asking for a little help and will do the same again Monday night….go blue baby!
