Shocker: Black Shoe Diaries Hates Michigan
Black Shoe Diaries is getting through the off season by remembering why they hate other teams. Here's their take on our Wolverines:
You May Remember Them From Such Games As...: Last season's 35-10 bludgeoning in Ann Arbor, which followed 2008's 46-17 bludgeoning in Happy Valley. That's 81-27 over two years, mathletes. Ordinarily, this would be a monumental achievement for Penn State, but don't get too proud. Take away a mid-season guarantee game against severely outmanned Delaware State, and Michigan lost their last seven games, including a 38-13 school bus fire at Illinois on Halloween that inspired the dong-punching webinar over at MGoBlog.
This is apparently the sum total of Michigan's 2009 season:
Read the comments for additional excitement. Fun fact: The Penn Staters are using GERG as well.
All I have to say: Pride goes before a fall. Wonder how the PSU faithful think they'll be able to avoid the trials and tribulations associated with starting a first year quarterback?
Hopefully they also comment on how William Campbell owned Kevin Newsome after the game is over October 30th.
BSD's eagerness to bury Michigan for the rest of eternity has confused me greatly. You would think that a fanbase that suffered through what they had to deal with in 2000-2004 would show a little more understanding and less desire to make so many strident statements.
If only they knew our rebuilding plan: after going to a bowl this season, we're going to have two more losing seasons before we make Rodriguez the figurehead coach and have the coordinators actually run the team.
I thought it was kinda strange seeing Coach Rodriguez at the optomitrist getting fitted for some coke bottle glasses the other day....
You see something less then a well oiled machine here?
I know they are feeling really cocky down there - I have close relatives who are alum/parents of alum. They conveniently forget the nine game run. Two wins against a program in a major transition and they own the world. Going to be really sweet when this situation gets corrected - starting this fall.
They should try showing a little more class after they win a few - maybe act like they have been there before. Oh wait, I guess they really haven't.
'when this situation gets corrected';
nice.
Congrats PSU, you've won two straight. Only 7 more straight wins to match us. They better hope their QBs don't play as poorly as they did in their spring game, or else it'll be a long season.
Ohio State Jr.'s got to get his nips in before we get back to our winning ways...hahaha
RUTS does this for the all the teams they play in the BigTen. The article isn't that bad (some funny!), and we have been for the last 2 years. We'll get better and they will continue to hate. It will just be more frustrating. The post even ends with this:
...there's a lurking sense that they'll be back and annoying us sooner than later. Their success makes them even more unbearable. Enjoy the quiet time while it lasts.
I like that they hate us. I like the comments predicting a 50-point blowout before we rotate off the schedule. I actually kinda like PSU (secret).
Like MGoShoe says there are likely more rough times ahead for them. KNew and McLovin looked awful in the spring game. Paul Jones showed some promise, but I don't know who he was playing with/against. And who knows how well JayPa will make the transition to HC?
Newsome looks good in his uni. PSU, as much as I hate them, has some classy unis.
Kevin Newsome looks good in the Penn State uniform because it allowed us to get Mr. Dilithium.
They are white with plain blue numerals
Why is that classy?
The helmets make me think of Star Wars Stormtroopers
He'll be lookin' great to Big Will as well come this fall. Even at home though, they wear the white pants - going to definitely show the staining.
If I were a PSU fan and had to deal with this ...
http://football.stassen.com/cgi-bin/records/opp-opp.pl?start=1997&end=2…
and attempts to be funny, but I would not write a check my team won't be able to catch.....
they might have issues trying to cash it.
"All I have to say: Pride goes before a fall."
ugh
Is a Dumbtonio quote necessary? Really?
Did The Bible steal it from Dantonio, too, then?
That's my point.
...realized that.
Well, duh. I know the origin. But in this context, who does it remind you of, obviously? Don't tell me it doesn't sound stupid for a Michigan fan to say it in this context.
We're going to take a lameass Dumbtonio quote that our fanbase mocks incessantly and direct it at another program? meh
Because Dantonio once said this, now we can't? What else is verboten?
What about the fact that you apparently live in Columbus? I think you're a little suspect just for that..
played a little suspect. You know, in the movie The Usual Suspects. He was physically on the diminutive side compared to the other suspects. So, a little suspect. Additionally, he sang in a barbershop quartet in Skokie, Illinois.
Just because we may live in hostile areas doesn't mean that at least some of us are not Alumni and fans.
The phrase is in such prevalent usage that it's impossible to associate it with one source. It's been in about 200 shitty action movies, and in NUMEROUS insipid sports quotes. If I ever said it, I can assure you, I wouldn't be thinking of Dantonio.
black shoe diarrhea, amirite???
Didn't PSU come into that game prepared to show it would be the Big 2 and Little 9 with the 2 being OSU and PSU? I remember the goal line stand by UM turned the game and shut up the crowd in the bar in Happy Valley where I was watching it. I remember the sound of the beer bottle thrown at me for singing The Victors at the bar that night but other details remain fuzzy.
are insufferable.
I love how PSU have conveintly forgotten that their teams were absolute garbage for a nice strech run earlier in the decade. Now they beat two of the worst UM teams of all time and they own us.
If we can beat them this season, I can't wait to hear the PSU fans blame it on the refs and "he was in bounds" and "extra seconds on the clock," etc.
Boo to Penn State, Boo to PSU fans, Boo to their boring as hell uniforms and Boo to Kevin Newsome.
Dudes.
It's a comedy post. They put Tate Forcier in a poster of Chorus Line. As someone who tries to write funny blogposts, I can assure you - it's hard. You may not find it funny, but that was it's intention. No offense should be taken.
Yes, I'm damning it with faint praise. For a variety of reasons I didn't think the Tate/Chorus Line picture was at all funny, but I liked the GERGATRON picture in the comments.
The Black Shoes Diary post is in the fine tradition of kicking a team when they're down. Yeah, it sucks when we're the team that's down, but when we beat them again you can link to it and laugh.
Penn State now has a two-year win streak against the worst two Michigan teams in the last 40 years. Somebody ought to point out to them that Michigan won how many in a row against Penn State, and we didn't even play their worst two teams in the last 40+ years (2003-2004).
I'm offended by PSU fans claiming the first 15 years were an aberration and only the last 2 count.
FWIW The post this thread is about was relatively reasonable, but they went completely overboard the next day. I was taking that into account when I made my post.
The Michigan brand is stale. Just thinking of the state of Michigan you think of rusted factories falling apart as people exit to make a better life. It seems as though the Michigan Wolverines haven't been able to escape that, as they too are falling apart one rusted piece at a time. Maybe they can turn things around eventually, but right now it seems like they are heading in the wrong direction with no end in sight.
I hope Michigan does come back. Big Ten football is more fun when Michigan is one of the bullies on the block. But right now I don't see it happening any time soon.
I could see something like from an OSU or MSU blog, but Penn St.? Really? With how 2000-2004 went for them? I mean, really? Are they that lacking in self-awareness?
As someone who tries to write funny blogposts, I can assure you - it's hard.
That's because you're not funny.
;)
Maybe not. But I am very good at "righteous indignation".
Do yourselves a favor and don't read through all the comments. It's like a M-Live post.
Must.Bleach.Eyes
The list of teams I want to kill is getting alarmingly long. As in Blutarsky's speech, "Warmer Ohio State, he’s a dead man! Marmalard Michigan State! Dead! Neidermeyer Purdue …” And that leaves off Penn State, Notre Dame, maybe Illinois and Wisconsin. We gotta take these bastards. Here’s hoping RR won’t fight them with conventional weapons.
I find it amusing that the guy thinks that black shoes are somehow especially associated with Penn State. Was "Shoulder Pads Diaries" already taken?
You totally glanced over the last part where I said I hope Michigan comes back because the Big Ten is better when Michigan is competitive. I like Michigan. They were always kind of my second favorite team until PSU joined the conference.
I'm sure you guys will be back. I just don't think it's going to happen under Rodriguez. And yes, I'm aware of PSU's struggles the early part of the last decade. I didn't think they were going to pull out from that under Paterno either.
I'd say you could reasonably argue that they didn't "pull out from that under Paterno", but more under Bradley/Hall.
Cool uniforms. Joe Pa. Good academics. Generally, a class act. Even the BSD "Why we hate Michigan" was sort of humorous, but I was definitely surprised at how some of the comments were so strong about PSU ruling Michigan. Really? After the nine year run you guys had against us? Really?
Enjoy our misery as much as you want, but the idea of giving yourselves a ticker-tape parade for two victories against us at this point in time (i.e., you beat our two worst teams possibly ever at a time when you finally had a decent team) is sort of, well, hard to grasp. Maybe you have just been hanging around with the Buckeyes too much. They aren't among the brightest bulbs in the conference and you need to be careful to not let them dumb you down. Assuming we split into two divisions post expansion, you should definitely try to get yourselves in the division that does not contain OSU. Otherwise, the next thing you know, you might suddenly find yourselves incapable of beating any SEC team. You don't want that now, do you? It would be particularly bad now, what with that Alabama game coming up.
Alternatively, the land grant universities would fit well together. Animal husbandry is, after all, so critical to the nation, and not at all reflective of "rust."
Personally, I think the BSD post is fine. It's not remotely close to the most anti-Michigan thing I've read on that site. The Tate pic is funny and not unlike pics I've seen Michigan fans make.
It's important to differentiate 'stuff written by rivals' from 'stupid stuff written by rivals.' This post if the former. The recent post at BHGP was the later.
