Semi OT: Space Memorabilia

Submitted by Michigan Shirt on March 24th, 2021 at 9:30 PM

So, I work for a NASA/SpaceEx style company and have an opportunity to fly a small piece of memorabilia to the ISS and possibly turn it into a bottle opener. I wanted to see if anyone more creative than I had some thoughts on cool pieces I could possibly send up (coin, patch, etc.) and maybe some cool Michigan designs that I could put  on a 1x6 surface.

My internal thought was a coin that could be put into resin and then put into a handle. Designs could be Michigan football banner on one side and an Apollo 15 theme on the opposite.

Any great ideas out there?

"Space---That's Real Shit" and Juwan on the obverse side; "Space Bitches Space" on the inverse side, superimposed over the engraved portrait of the three Apollo 15 MGoNauts.

This will probably sound really weird, but if it were me, what ever I chose to send up there I would stick a piece of my hair to it so that I could claim that part of me had been in space.

I made the back-up data port cover from a satellite I built at Michigan in the 90's into a key chain that I still carry around with me.

As for design, while the Michigan thing is nice, with this type of limited opportunity, do something that has great personal meaning to you. I'm guessing that you don't have any kids, but with a 1x6 dimension, maybe do a photo collage on one of those metal photo sheets and snip out your design-- something like a photo of your dad and mom with you in UM gear, or a particularly good college photo.

Careful with resins... even if it stays in the pressurized portion of the ISS / transport vehicle, you're still going to have material concerns.

If you’re great at math write out a really complex math problem that you know the answer to.  Then for the rest of your life you can tell people that back in 2021 the space station had a problem on board but all was not lost as you were able to solved it for them!

Houston, we have a problem!
