Semi-OT: Fox Sports Writer Calls Urban Meyer Out For His Hypocrisy

Submitted by EastCoast Esq. on

This Foxsports writer blasts Urban Meyer for his hypocritical book about instilling a culture of discipline. Calls O'Reilly out for letting Urban off the hook by implying that he would have kicked Jameis Winston off the team....even though Urban once let a player get away with murder.

Urban Meyer criticizes FSU's handling of Jameis Winston. sets impressive new bullshit record on Fox News: https://t.co/wxq5eJz04R

I don't know who this guy is, but I like him.

doesn't handle stress and ridicule that well with the best of them. Did you see how happy he was after the Penn State game and his wife had to come stand beside him in the after game interview? I saw something there. Even though they are undefeated, just winning that game with that little qb controversy, not winning games in stunning fashion that should and having UM lose that day was such a big relief. Comeon man. I could be wrong but these little things I pick up on. Things like these will start to become more and more obvious as I am undoubtedly looking for them more and more. So yes, once the buckeye superduty starts to lose horsepower he'll be gone. Hopefully leaving them in shambles so all of you on this blog can laugh along with myself. Man that felt good.

First to Stringer: I just posted in another thread about the NFL and coaching hires from CFB. I'm bored and can't sleep lol. Anyway, I mentioned that Kelly is a legit candidate, IMO. He runs a spread system but it has far more NFL concepts than the coach the poster was wondering why he never gets NFL offers (Meyer). The NFL isn't ready to look like CFB but Kelly can run and add slight tweaks to an NFL passing spread system if hired. I think he's about as exotic as anyone but the Eagles will hire. I think he gets offers this year. However, deep down do you think Meyer has more love for his early time at ND or osu? Situation aside - if all things were equal and both wanted him, who does he choose? If ND opened up in January, does he even consider it? Opinion but I'd like to hear yours. Fargo (sorry for format, on app): I kid you not when I say that I've picked up those things, too. Even at UF before he "retired" for "health reasons" and "to be close to family" only to "immediately take an ESPN gig that kept him away 5 days week by his own admission" (lol), I noticed him cracking in games. A look of pure fear. Even in dominant amounts of winning at osu I've seen that same face - especially in close games. You'll catch him just gazing around, lost and looking like he's thinking of anything but the game. As if he's contemplating what he'll say should they lose......with an entire quarter left. It's hard to explain and it's ripe for mocking by saying you can see "it" or "something" but I see it, too. I'm convinced he'd bail after the season where he dropped consecutive games to Michigan. If we get that same UF-Bama trajectory going? No more than 3 years. I think his ego has made him a coward. I really do. If it's not total praise and total love he'll run. If it becomes hard and he's across from a Saban or Harbaugh (a maniacal will to be the best) he'll run. I just see it in him, literally and figuratively.

no formatting in app and mobile has been wonky on every browser I have tried for a long time. We're app peasants lol. Stunned people still don't know this (no offense, especially if new here) but I mentioned it in the post.....wait...paragraphs. You didn't read it to know lol. I can hardly blame you. Being an app peasant is embarrassing but I'm also an Android app peasant! Yeah, prefer Android but the app was literally made by a dude for free, on the side and I think as a school project. Not even kidding. Appreciated (!) but it's just bad, man. Can't create a thread, edit, pos, neg, see points, format, etc. Purely read and reply. I see someone mention it to someone else at least once a day. Truly surprised it's not common knowledge at this point so no offense taken or given. I'm an app peasant...

Use your browser instead of the app. I can do almost everything that you just mentioned you can't do. You could, too, by simply going to the MGoBlog website instead of using the app. I'm posting this from my Android phone right now, and paragraphs are NOT my enemy.

by did you read my post? I used to use a browser but I've used multiple browsers on mobile and desktop settings to results I find lackluster. Do you not have an issue with your browser constantly resetting itself to the middle of the page after every word? I think it's something in my general phone settings but I've tinkered for hours to no result. This has been an issue since Jellybean, btw! Mobile worked fine, I upgraded and since then that and every phone since has reset like that. I don't carry over settings/contacts, btw. I haven't grabbed Marshmallow yet b/c I hear the app doesn't work on it....maybe it'd fix my browser issue lol? I use the Galaxy series, btw. It's not a zooming issue but one where I can't see what I'm writing when I tap space.

Sorry guys but I think we look as ignorant as Buckeyes fans talking about Harbaugh taking off for the NFL when we talk about Meyer leaving for another school, or, for "health reasons."

The guy is 46-3 at Ohio State, has not lost a regular season B1G game, and has won a national title in three  years. Their facilities are top notch and they are the king of football in a talent rich state. The 2016 & 2017 Ohio State recruiting classes are both, currently, ranked number one.

It may still happen, he may leave for another school, or the NFL, or eventually quit because Harbaugh, Diantoni, or Franklin, finally catch up, but I'll be genuinely surprised.

and I won't even say that he will for sure until retirement (I think he retires there). Yet, there is that stigma surrounding him for good reason. He completely bailed on UF. Genuinely ill from stress? I sympathize in principle but he did that to himself by his own words. It says something about him. IIRC, when he signed his osu deal the UF AD made some public comments that were not flattering. He didn't like the way he "retired" only to be somewhere else a year later. I don't know for sure but I think I read he was still under some deal with UF when he signed with osu - could be wrong. Maybe just verbal even though UF moved on? I think he'll stay because the NFL doesn't want him and he knows he can sleep walk to 10 wins in the B1G. I really wondered about the notions of ND if they opened up. He spent time at both so I'm not sure he has any more affection for ND than osu (his current employer, btw lol). I think he stays put a long time but he'll forever be seen as a runner. I think it's more than fair to remind people of that.

I can't say I disagree but I can't say I completely agree either. He was too young and I think he would have eventually jumped back into coaching in that hypothetical scenario. He didn't seem to be all that great at or enjoy broadcasting and, IMO, it was clear he wanted to coach again from his first ESPN gig. Yet, we'll never know. I just agree that it - at the very least - happened so soon due to it being osu and the state of the B1G. No stress whatsoever from day 1. Had Tressel stayed? I just feel he'd have landed somewhere in a few years. Yet, I can't say 100%. The only thing I know is that he absolutely bailed on UF when they gave him every consideration to "stay healthy" but remain. It was only after his final season collapse (after retiring, coming back in a support role and then full fledged HC again) that he "truly, no faksies this time, retired". Even if his dream job or 3 schools he always had an out clause for (UM, osu & ND) was open it's shady to leave UF like he did only to take one of those jobs a year later. That was 100% on him and he left a minefield back at UF. He ran, IMO.

Yeah, bc a culture of discipline describes his Gator teams to a T. Pretty sure he set some kind of record for players arrested that were allowed to continue playing. The guy is a hell of a coach, but as hypocritical as they come.

I don't really remember Meyer having problems with "thug" players, other than Florida.  And problems kept happening there long after he left.  So it's probably more of a Florida thing than a Meyer thing.  You can't drive 2 miles in that state without passing a dead hooker and a meth lab. Garbage in, garbage out.

Won or was a close 2nd in the Fulmer Cup and had something like 25+ players arrested while he coached at UF, but I agree. It's an institutional problem and not his fault. Same with Muschamp. I think their boosters have too much influence.

He was on local radio last year here in Nashville. He's a clickbait troll for his blog "outkick the coverage" very much in the mold of Colin Cowherd. Always tries to have the "hottest take" and shoots for the boldest predictions. Sometimes has good rants and has somewhat lessened his homerism but only because he is trying to make a national name for himself.
