Saturday Noon Game Thread

Submitted by alum96 on

This is an awful slate of games - I am mostly watching West Virginia v Maryland.  OSU v Kent State is really the only other one of any basic interest.

I thought this line on WVA v Maryland was strange (3) when they held in very well versus Alabama and Maryland looked like... well a Big 10 team, thus far.  West Virginia's WRs were awful vs Bama - if they could catch the ball they might have won the game.  If this was in Morgantown I'd take WVA by 17 or so.

Sounds like Maryland has benched its QB and is on QB #2.  Not sure those NFL WRs at Maryland are going to have a chance to showcase their wares this year the way things are going.

Maryland leaving plays all over the field. Brown missed a wide open TD pass and then a receiver drops a first down pass that may have let him continue running. This is the team that could be dangerous if they ever put it together for a team. I bet they have one big upset this year.

It would be fair to say that Maryland is settling into its role of a Big Ten team rather well so far - C.J. Brown dropped back about one Orlovsky (this is a measurement I think needs to be a formal measurement for QBs) and threw a complete pass back to the LOS, thus completing the drive which looked good but didn't go much of anywhere in reality.

The ACC better turn it around or this is going to be an ugly week for them.  Uconn losing to Boise St. (wouldn't be a bad loss), Pitt down 9-0 to FIU, and Syracuse trailing CMU.

Annonucers piss me off. The play is over once the ball crosses the plane, not when his knee is down. If they want to make the argument about completing the catch then fine. But his knee being down after the ball crosses the plane does not matter.

Is it 3:30 yet?.... Geesh today's slate feels like an opening weekend.  Lots of intriguing match-ups if both teams were at traditional levels (i.e. Okla vs Tenn, UCLA vs Tex, etc..).... But damn I'm pounding coffee and powering through these blowouts to get to the UM game which may make me cry or not...  At least we don't have Utah this weekend...

ECU up 21 in the first against VA Tech in Blacksburg? If they can pull this off, that OSU's loss to the Hokies at home is really going to bite them in the ass.

I thought these early games might be boring, but there are some upsets going early. Which means a string of inevitable comebacks later when the underdogs start feeling the pressure.

OSU's D line must have serious problems aside from too much molly.  ECU is blowing up VT's Oline nearly every play.  OSU didn't come close to doing that.

C.J. Brown has already found six recievers (seven if you count Daryl Worley, who happens to be a Mountaineer), so if you put aside the lack of ultimate productivity so far, he is fairly adept at hitting targets. West Virginia's pass defense has some signature Tony Gibson in it so far, though they have held Maryland to 2 FGs.
