Saturday Night Games and BBQ Thread - 'Homegating' Practice

Submitted by xtramelanin on October 17th, 2020 at 6:12 PM

Mates,

Some decent games tonight - The big one of course being Bama/UGA.  A couple of others of interest include UNC v. FSU (yes, FSU, we want to cherry pick your best recruits) and Virginia Tech v. B.C.

And it's time to put in some pre-season training for 'homegating', another new word for the non-attendance of football games.  One week from this evening we will be just about to watch Michigan take the field in Minnesota.   You will need to be in mid-season form for that, and there's no time like now to put the training and effort in.

Tonight's questions are:

1.  Bama is favored by 6 over UGA, game in AL.  Who do you take in that one?   What about the UNC/FSU tilt, with UNC favored by 13 points?

2.   What is on your BBQ tonight?  And what adult beverage might be accompanying it?

One week, that's it.  Almost there.  In the meantime, have a great evening and Go Blue!

I don’t know if it’s because Michigan plays In 1 week or what, but I am so bored with college football today. Louisville vs ND was good and I hope for a battle tonight with UGA and Bama, but I can’t wait for next weekend.

The last six weeks have felt like being separated from half of our college football family. As comforting as it is to see the southern schools play it doesn't feel right not having everyone start and finish together.

I also miss waking up and half paying attention to college gameday and taking in the atmosphere of wherever they would travel. I haven't watched a second of college zoomday this year. Here's hoping everything is right next fall.

Frozen pizza and diet dew tonight. Indulged in some hamm's during my round of golf earlier. Old fashioneds with bulleit rye tomorrow during the nfl slate.

It's so weird.  I haven't watched any college football to date.   It's almost like it doesn't exist because Michigan hasn't played yet.    But I think I'll sample the Bama-Dawgs game since it would be nice to watch sports whilst inhaling hot wings.

I'll also tune in to the UNC-FSU game to see what fountain of coaching youth Mack Brown has been sipping from.

The grill won't be used tonight in Madison, WI since we're experiencing 40+ mph winds.   Wings will be cooked in the air fryer based on best practices gleaned from MGoBloggers.    I have a few New Glarus bottles chilling in the basement refrigerator which will definitely be sampled.

Any snowflake sightings in the northern LP, XM?   Northern Wisconsin and the UP definitely got some early season accumulations.

My BBQ was the branches from three of my blue spruces that were badly in need of trimming, not to mention all the leaves from the maple trees I've collected over the last few weeks

There were a couple really good noon games today - watching ranked SEC teams (Auburn & Tennessee) getting upset was fun - and Liberty(!?) beating down an ACC team in the road to get to 5-0 was interesting.  Much of the other games today have been decidedly "meh", but... it's still college football.

I’m pulling for UGA, but I think Alabama covers the spread.  Not sure what to think about North Carolina yet, but I am pretty sure of what to expect from FSU.  UNC covers there too.  Being in Okinawa, my CFB happens in the AM.  I’ll be tossing a couple New York strips on the grill toward the end of the nightcap though!  Embracing the culture, I’m filling my cup with Orion.  Cheers XM!

I’m in the Air Force so the beef I’m getting is coming from the United States, but they do have wagyu beef out here and it is light cutting through butter...  Very expensive butter...  Very tasty for an anniversary.  Orion is a Japanese beer that is very popular on the island.  They have a local brewery.  It’s not my favorite, but it’s decent and always available!

I like Bama tonight by a field goal, but Georgia's defense has certainly looked more impressive than Saban's thus far.

Fried chicken, mac 'n cheese, mixed veggies, and A&W root beer.

Maybe some mint chocolate chip ice cream later.

Don't judge, I'm on vacation.

Not on the grill but duck breast tonight.

I’ve been dipping my toes into smoking lately and am looking for something to put in the smoker next Saturday. Any suggestions? Ideally something like a pork butt (done it a lot) or brisket (way too big for just me and my wife).

Finale of show week for the middle school musical meant celebrating on our 7th grader’s terms trumped grilling for Bama-UGa (despite deep family ties to both). So it was a sushi party here tonight.

Lazy-ass day. Watching Texas A&M beat up on Miss St and wondering who Leach will throw under the bus after this one. Later: making peanut butter cookies from a recipe that best approximates the peanut butter cookies I used to get at the Kerrytown Market. I loved those. Smoking some primo blueberry kush. Still need to work out but may sample a few psychotropic mushrooms after that.

Bama, until Smart proves he can win a big game.

And the flood of content is coming......excellent
1. I'll take Bama and the points. Think they got a wake-up call and will tighten it up. UNC will roll, also.

2. No BBQ tonight. Cheddar-wurst on the Foreman (sort of a grill?) and mac and cheese. Boring seltzer with dinner and Labatt later on.

honorable mention tonight:  forgot about the boxing match tonight.  lightweights fighting for the championship.  used to pay a lot more attention to boxing but this sounds like an interesting bout.  they say the main event will tip off at about 11 for those interested.  it's on espn, not pay per view.
