What modestly-priced vodka do you recommend? As I recently (during the holidays) poured the last of a bottle of Absolut and realized all I had left was about a third of a pint of some cheap rotgut Kamchatka vodka, I hit the liquor aisle at Meijer and settled on a fifth of Svedka. Not opened yet, but was it the right choice?

Not sure where you're buying, but just checked my local booze emporium and a handle of Tito's ($30) is more than double the cost of Svedka ($14).

If you're going cheap (which I always do since I never drink it straight), Pinnacle ($17 for 1.75 liter, French), Burnett's ($11, American), and Tobaritch ($20, Russian) are also good calls.

much appreciated.  I did consider picking up some Tito's, as I've heard nothing but good things about it, and also took a look at Pinnacle, as it was in the price range I was looking at--- I just wasn't at all familiar with the brand name.   Also saw Burnetts but never considered it, having heard it wasn't very good.

I ended up choosing the Svedka being that it was the least pricey of the 3 and I knew I was going to be already planning on spending $$$ on Valentines gifts, cards, and candy for my 2 daughters, my granddaughter, and my mom.

It was 85 here today (SoCal) and the 7/11 was out of Corona so I bought some Modelos and hung out at the pool. Not loving them, but they're not terrible right now.

haha well if it makes you feel better, housing prices reflect our awesome weather. I'm in the CA camp, and my area doesn't get hit with natural disaters too often (although I've only been out here for 2 years).

The day I decided to take an opportunity out here, it was the coldest day in 50 years in Chicago - 40 with the windchill, and - 20 without.

Responding to JBlazes's shitty post about how happy he was that justice Scalia had died. I think there were a few of us who responded. But somehow my response(s) to him/her got subordinated to those who had responded. I wasn't trying to call Grendel an asshole. But yes, I have had a drink or two. : )
