Everyone keeps talking about the offense like it is one player away. The reality is everyone needs to step up. QBs, Oline, WRs, coaching staff in practice, coaching staff in game. If it's not one thing going wrong it's the other. Not a single person was locked in from start to finish this season, or really even within a single game. The RBs were probably the most consistent but that's not saying much.

Harbaugh is not stupid, and he is probably extremely embarrassed by what happened this year. I think he is going to maniacally dedicate himself into rebuilding his offense ground-up this off-season. The kids and all the coaches are going to feel that.

On one of those Harbaugh podcasts Jim's father was complimentary of the coach's more calm demeanor on the sideline, and I know it has been discussed here that he seemed "off" this season--less intense, less fiery. My guess is he's going to have a talk with himself and conclude: "Fuck it. I am who I am. Let the chips fall where they may." If he wants his team to play like that, they have to get their cues from the HC.

There's no doubt that Shea has raw talent, but I think his success depends on the offense that we'll be running in the future. If we continue with this current offense, I'm hesitant to annoit Shea as the savior as I'm not sure if he's ever taken a snap under center. However, if the rumors are true and Michigan is planning on adding more pistol-offense plays, then his athleticism will really come in handy, especially during those broken-down plays (which we saw way too many of this season).

> Love how he sets his feet before a throw even after scrambling.

> LOVE that he actually uses a pump fake every once in a while.  (Such an underused attribute.  I'm not sure why so many QBs in college don't do it.)

> Only minus is that on literally every single one of his scrables I could see our offensive line getting called for holding, whether there was actually holding or not.  (Being a Michigan fan gives you offensive holding PTSD.)

We haven't had a playmaking QB in forever.  Looks like Baker Mayfield lite in that film.

I'll take a poor man's Johnny Manziel (college version) or Baker Mayfield any day of the week and twice on Saturday.  In the right offense (looking at you Jim Harbaugh), this would be a huge upgrade from anything we've seen the past 3 years.

Add in Black, DPJ and Collins on the outside / along with a pistol power run game, and we could be functional to good on that side of the ball next year.

... but I'm glad you said "Black, DPJ and Collins on the outside" and not Crawford.  Someone updated the depth chart link here on the site today and bolded Crawford as a starter.  It just seemed to me this season that he dropped well over half the passes thrown to him.

I just feel that for whatever reason and because it's Michigan and Jim Harbaugh that Shea is going to get denied immediate eligibility by the NCAA. I hope he doesn't but that's just the feeling I have.

if Peyton Manning is behind center, if our wr's can't get open or catch the ball....But it's def promising going forward with Patterson..Hoping for the turnaround

Hard not to be excited about Shea's arm strength and his ability to escape pressure and extend plays. I also like his ability to stand in and make the pass when a rusher is flying in on him.

I do have concerns about his ability to read defenses and play from under center in a pro style offense. I believe Ole Miss ran a check with me, air raid style offense and IMG ran a spread.

I hope that Shea can adapt to more of a pro style offense and can make multiple reads required in Harbaugh's offense. I imagine if Shea is allowed to play next year that Harbaugh will adapt the offense somewhat to Shea's strength's.

he moves and his throwing motion, plus he has great poise in the pocket with a real assurance in scramble mode, looking to make the big play.  His receivers at Ole Miss also seemed highly skilled. But what sets him apart for me was hitting targets on time and in stride and along the sideline where only his guys could catch the ball,

He doesn't bail from the pocket at the hint of pressure. Instead, he slides his feet and looks downfield while dodging the rush, which given our Oline issues is an outstanding trait. He has already mastered the RPO slant which we run along with many other college and pro teams. He can roll out and throw on the run. I like this guy. The only real drawback to his game appears to be his size.

His game is also the closest to what Harbaugh's was during his time as quarterback at Michigan. Whether that is a mitigating factor in seeking his services will only be discovered over time, but clearly he is a closer resemblence to Luck than any other Michigan qb candidate that Harbaugh's inherited or recruited. And his addition to the qb competition clearly gives Michigan a veteran presence which Harbaugh has sought yearly  since his arrival.
