Sam Puts in Crystal Ball for 4* Safety Jordan Morant

Submitted by BursleyHall82 on June 6th, 2019 at 8:42 AM

Jordan Morant is a 4-star safety from Bergen Catholic in New Jersey. No. 161 overall, No. 10 safety, No. 5 player in Jersey. Sam Webb announced this morning on WTKA that he just put in a crystal ball for him.

Has offers from Penn State, Ohio State, Alabama and lots of others. Do want.

I wasn't sure how this recruiting class was going to turn out but it seems like we are picking up steam.  I'm hoping for another Top 10 class.

Angelique at the Detroit News mentioned a couple months ago that Michigan finally has decent depth across the board. What this means for recruiting is that they can afford to focus on the best players available, at every position, instead of being more desperate and settling for 2nd best commitable offers early. Of course, this shifts all the time, and you have to focus on getting kids at every position. But the upshot was she thought this would be a very good class, but we would be signing more kids later and later. This reminds me of some of the SEC schools who seem to be way down in the ratings early, but shoot up massively as 4 & 5 star kids commit later in the cycle.

Given that it's hard to project how high school kids will develop, I think delaying as late as possible makes a ton of sense. Assuming that people will drop their existing commitments for your program (e.g., if you're Alabama).

While I mostly agree, I think Michigan will see more of that in the 2021 cycle rather than the 2020 cycle. If you look at the board of targets that are interested in Michigan, there are positions where it seems Michigan doesn’t have a ton of high end targets interested in them. Positions like CB, WR, DT, and LB (though that position has been filled well so far). Of course there’s a lot of movement yet to happen and targets will appear out of nowhere, so I still expect Michigan to end up with a good class.

I’ve heard Zordich is a pretty weak recruiter. Excellent coach, but his recruiting leaves a lot to be desired. Considering how lock down our corners have been for the past 3-4 years, we should be in every top corners top group. I’m not sure what the CB board looks like right now, but besides Seldon, it seems we are only in on Henry Gray (maybe) and Eamonn Dennis (ATH).

yeah CB is troubling.  they really need to land the next hill, thomas, etc - not that those guys grow on trees but theyre overdue for top flight CB.

they rolled the dice on some taller dudes like st juste, sims, grey, green, and could really use a few quick, tough athletes able to cover inside or out

Yeah I've been watching CB as the one worry spot in terms of recruiting.  While we brought in a bunch of prospects the last couple classes, they don't have a lot of speed.  Having Hill and Long as entrenched young starters probably didn't help recruiting.  Next year's class should have plenty of opportunity for early playing time, and now the play of Hill and Long is an asset.

I was glad to see per Touch the Banner that both Gray and Ryan Watts are visiting this weekend.  Picking up at least 1 elite CB this cycle is critical.

Supposedly, several national pundits such as Mandel are saying we have the top OL in the nation.  Hard to wrap head around that, if true, simply because of the tackles.  Runyan, while 1st team BIG, should be playing guard, and RT has not been settled nor proven to have a good player.. So for those writers to state that is shocking.  Sure, our inside three may be the best, but still....  am glad to hear it though.

I hope this isn't just his attempt at burying the Martin transfer portal story. I haven't listened to this morning's podcast but Sam and Ira were essentially laughing at the idea of Martin transferring yesterday. Oops.

What do you want them to say on air? There were rumors on a rivals board, then Gattis seemed to squash those rumors on Twitter and Martin participated in practice, then he decided to transfer. There were signs that the rumor had be squashed then something changed.

On the topic of Sam's CBs, he is almost always right with the CBs because he doesn't put one in unless he basically has verbal confirmation of a commit or a very good reason to believe the kid is going to commit. A Sam Webb crystal ball means a lot

Yeah, I mean, didn't he talk to Martin's parents?  They said he was all in.  A day later the kid heaves.

There is nothing wrong with what he reported. Maybe the parents really thought that, maybe they were shielding their kid, who knows.  But you can't get a better source other than the kid himself.

Hell yes. Morant is the #1 safety and borderline five star on 247, the service that knows what it’s doing. Would be pretty wild if we landed the #1 safety in back to back classes.

That would be awesome. Michigan has done a good job of bringing in a really solid player at some position every so often, but less so getting a pipeline of all really good recruits at a position across years.

I realize that it's easier to get good guys to come when there's a clear path to near immediate playing time, but a deep second string is necessary to regularly perform well over such a long and grueling season.

Did he mention anything about Makari Paige, who's 4* safety from West Bloomfield?  Most of his CB picks are for Michigan, but and OSU writer put one in for Ohio State yesterday.
