  • USC WRs (2007-2008)

This means Urban and Dantonio will use their NFL connections when from when they coached in the NFL to start beefing up their staff......oh yeah I just remembered....nevermind,

This staff would have two people who have coached in a Super Bowl. A DL coach who won a BCS Championship as a DC. Jim Harbaugh. And this is without seeing who's the DC/OC hires.

Michigan OL should improve under Drevno, as players did at USD, Stanford and the 49ers.

He's also a West Coast native, so Drevno can help Michigan with California recruiting (not that Harbaugh wouldn't be a slam dunk recruiter out West too).Long tenure and strong working chemistry with Harbaugh as what needs to be built/constructed for the final product. In my view Drevno is as solid as you would want for an OL coach.

I think Morton is in a similar mold. Harbaugh liked what he did with the 49ers.  Morton was an OC for Pete Carroll at USC after Sarkisian took the Washington job, but was not particularly great as an OC (9-4 overall, 5-4 in PAC10) that year, including a 21-55 drubbing to Harbaugh's Stanford Cardinal.  Morton's best work has been in the NFL as 49ers WR coach with dudes like Boldin, Crabtree, etc.

I guess landing Morton would mean no Soup Campbell.

Campbell was a DB/WR at Michigan and then WR coach for many years at Iowa. Also Campbell and Harbaugh were teammates, so there's that.

It's significant to observe that assistant coaches are jumping at the chance of working with Harbaugh. Not only does it show that serious coaches realize what great opportunities come from that, it also shows that Harbaugh is not some kind of demanding, impossible to please, nutcase.

In fact, his assistant coaches are loyal and evidently like working for him. They're lining up to do it.

It's a shame that the 49ers took the low road, and smeared Harbaugh with carefully crafted leaks. He didn't do that.

So we are left with the misimpression that the man is difficult.

Back when I was a lawyer who tried cases, we learned that there is a fact of communication called Primacy, that tells us that the person who tells the story first is more likely to have the story believed than the person who goes second before a judge or jury.

In trials, this gives a plaintiff or prosecutor the edge. And while Recency, believing the last story heard, is also a thing, Primacy must be overcome with a very strong presentation.

The niners tried Harbaugh in the media. He didn't fire back. He showed class.

Who's the difficult, hard to get along with, person? I suspect it isn't JH.

Had no idea who these guys were when I first read this. Now that I know, giddyup! 2015 might not be the year but things are looking pretty sweet for 2016 and beyond.

John Morton is a Michigan native from Auburn Hills and played at Western Michigan.
That gives him a leg up as a local who knows the ins and outs of Michigan High Schools.

I think it would be great if Wheatley could be brought back, maybe as RB coach --

these other guys have great resumes & would be perfect hires if they will come - I am sure that Harbaugh will want to surround himself with as many familiar guys as possible, so he will know that everyone is on the same page -- its his team, he should get to pick it --

would be cool if he could talk  old Jerry Hanlon to come in once in awhile to teach some oline technique

We might not need to worry about JH up and leaving, but if JH turns Michigan into a coaching factory, we'll need get used to revolving door coordinators and position coaches.
