This will be the thread for snowflakes and hot takes regarding our overall coaching performance against Rutgers.

The Hinton situation is bordering on egregious. Sherrone Moore, whose play calling hasn’t been stellar btw, almost appears to be on a mission to sabotage this team.

I disagree with the contention that clock management was bad. I thought the announcers were wrong when they brought it up. Stopping the clock to save time for when you get the ball back could easily backfire and make the coaches look foolish. If the other team has the ball and you have a lead near the end of the half I am 100% in favor of letting the clock run.

I don't see the clock issue. A lot of coaches would have made that punt, but Schiano made the right call by having the QB kneel it after time expired. It was like having a hand in euchre that can only be won if the other team screws up. You still play the hand to win because they might screw up, but unless you're playing Frames Janklin or the Indiana O-Line, they probably won't.

It wouldn't have done any good if he took the timeout on 2nd down and then Rutgers gained a 1st down. Now he's just lost a timeout that he might need.

Using it on 4th down means he forced at least one more snap that can't be a direct kneel down—if the QB went down too early then they turn it over in chip-shot field goal range. That's a strong possibility given the strength of our D-line and putting a young QB in a stressful situation. If they punt it we have a chance for a return.

What benefit would taking the timeout earlier provide?

Yup. The timeout saves the same amount of time whether done on 1st down or 3rd down. Rutgers would have bled the same amount of clock regardless. I don’t know how anyone is upset with it - maybe be upset they only had 1 timeout in that situation, but at the end of the day they got to go into halftime up by 7 despite the poor start and a missed FG.

Michigan fans are going to say that all the way to PSU game. So, unless Michigan beats every team by 60 with no sacks, no INTs, no opponent gaining more than 100 yards, no opponent scoring in us, this team will be complained about here. So, this a no win situation for Michigan at least on this board. Michigan is not going to be able to play without making mistakes against every "soft" team on their schedule.

Yeah, but that's what happens when you play the lamest schedule possible. You'll never know how good you really are. You don't improve because you're not being challenged. You play down to the level of competition. And people will always question you. The team's schedule for the past couple years has been ass, so the criticism is warranted. Next year it will stop.

My only gripe is Harbs continues to be one of the worst clock managers in football.  This isn't new.  He wasn't good at it in NFL either.

Michigan can surely find a few extra bucks to find some geek to stand next to him on the sidelines and tell him when and when not to take timeouts.  I get it.  He's dealing with a lot of shit.  I'm on my couch.  There are coaches that are very savvy at time management and certain coaches that suck at it.

Harbs is firmly in the suck at it category.

24 offensive points on really 6 drives (they were not trying to score on the last one).

So out of 6 drives your max score is 42 (48 technically but you’re not going for 2 on every drive). Of those you had one bad drive, a missed FG, and 4 scoring drives. Pretty efficient, but played at a snails pace

If Schiano wanted to shorten the game, he got it.  Shortest D I football game I ever saw.  Team played with poise after some early mental mistakes.  SD Mick said M got the snap off in time before the penalty.  Still, that and the Rutger TD pass with missed tackle ( bad angle ) leave room for improvement on mental side of things.  Glad Harbaugh is free and back.  4 & 0, 1 & 0 works.

Slow pacing to limit drives and plays faced by defense. Keep d-line more fresh when missing a very important piece of the rotation. Very intentional.

The coach's task, first and foremost, is to put your players in the best position to win the game. When you are the better team limiting the opportunities for your opponent is important. I cannot imagine that those whining in this regard have ever been in a "this is where the buck stops" position in sports. It appears as though Jim is slowly rounding this team into a place where they can win both offensively and defensively.

I love that they are, increasingly, giving JJ the license to go move the chains on third down-with his legs.

I wish there was a general thread for snowflakes. I have had season tickets since 2008 and this year has been the worst with event staff.

I have a paper ticket and the woman in front of me had mobile tickets. She can’t pull them up so we are all stuck behind her waiting as cell reception is poor.

I scan my paper ticket at the adjacent queue and an event staff member grabs me my the shirt and accuses me of cutting in line. I said I’ve waited in line and just scanned my paper ticket and asked “am I being detained?”. He said “stand over there in the grass” and after a few minutes said “you needed a lesson in patience” and then allowed me to proceed.

I spend thousands of my dollars on this every year and that is simply unacceptable behavior from Michigan Stadium event staff.

I did not cut the line. I waited starting in the intersection of Main and Stadium, and the scanner next to me was open while this woman was holding up everyone behind her for several minutes. What is the virtue in waiting when I could quickly scan my ticket and it’s under a 3 second interaction?

You sound like someone who also bitches about the stadium not being full at kickoff. Well when it takes 30+ minutes to get in, that’s a problem.

Even if you think I cut the line (which I did not), it’s unacceptable for someone to put hands on me.

My sister and her boyfriend last week had a woman usher when they were going into their section grab them ask "Where are you going"? They replied "...to our seats". She goes "What section?" as if they're somehow sneaking into the stadium like they didnt get their tickets scanned at the gate already, then hits them with "what row?" and "what seat?" too. Fucking ridiculous.
