The Harpologists will look the other way and turn to trashing Fleck and Campbell instead to make themselves feel better.
September 25th, 2021 at 11:04 PM ^
I wonder what they’ll say when UM loses to Tucker (again) and Scott Frost.
September 25th, 2021 at 11:45 PM ^
Same.
The Harpologists are a talking Mattel doll. You pull the string in the back, let it go, and you'll hear a Harpologist say one of the following:
"It was the spot"
"It's the refs"
"It's our academicz"
"Online U (even though Michigan has online classes too)"
"COVID was a bad year becuase we didn't get camp"
September 26th, 2021 at 12:01 AM ^
Are there even any "harpologists" left? Show me 1 person who still thinks the guy just needs more time.
September 26th, 2021 at 6:30 AM ^
You mean the guys trying to lose to each other last night?
September 26th, 2021 at 1:52 PM ^
So…to be clear. MSU won in OT against a 2-2 team and there W was a work of art. UM won 20-13 against a 3 & 0 team and the sky is falling? Perspective is nice. MSU opponents to this point 7-9. UM opponents to date 10-6. Realize there are kinks to work out, but damn man. Chill
September 26th, 2021 at 2:55 PM ^
Who said MSU is a "work of art"? They had all of one first down in the second half too. Michigan and MSU are basically the same team, but one coach is in his second year and the other his 7th.
September 25th, 2021 at 7:30 PM ^
At the end of the first half, Harbaugh clearly wanted one more shot at a TD, but Gattis couldn’t call an effing play in time and they have to blow the last timeout, one play after McNamara missed a wide open receiver in the end zone.
Early in the 3rd, 4th and short and Harbaugh again made the call to go for it, but his OC couldn’t figure out what to call on 4th and half a yard.
McNamara was off today. Gattis seemed shell-shocked and unable to figure out how to adjust to what Rutgers did with their ends and inside push.
No screens, no QB keeps, no end arounds, nothing. Gattis is what he is.
I know so many of us here think, “Good play=Gattis, Bad play=Harbaugh.” Right now, nothing would please me more than a Harbaugh takeover of the offense.
The guy with a track record of success gets blamed for bad plays and the 30 something who’s done shit in 3 years gets a pass.
September 25th, 2021 at 7:43 PM ^
Perhaps the ass-bag that keeps hiring incompetent OC's should leave too?
Harbaugh's style of coaching has been the same for years, and it's mediocre at best.
Why people think he is the answer to OSU or even PSU/MSU/Wisky is utterly baffling.
September 25th, 2021 at 8:42 PM ^
This 1000%
September 26th, 2021 at 8:15 AM ^
Who's going to be the next coach here then?
Who is going to take us to a level we have never been? Now that we are out of a covid year Campbell looks like an idiot with all the talent he has and multiple losses already..
All the people wanting a coaching change aren't suggesting anyone who could actually come in and make a damn bit of difference..
What if we hire an offensive genius, then he has a defensive coach that is an embarrassment? Most of you bitch and cry but have no one better to replace Harbaugh with and if we fire Harbaugh who would even want the job
September 26th, 2021 at 8:45 AM ^
Completely agree. Most of the leading candidates from the off-season look horrendous so far this year. Both Campbell and Fleck are having disappointing seasons so far.
September 26th, 2021 at 10:28 AM ^
This continuing argument is misguided and uninformed. There are people out there, even running under the radar, who can be excellent HCs. This is as much an AD issue as anything. Jim may, indeed, be able to do the job here but he clearly needs assistance of some order to keep him on track-something that is not currently in place.
September 26th, 2021 at 11:35 AM ^
ok who then? Not even asking to dispute your claim, I really want to know.
Up to this point youre the same as the other useless fucks that dont suggest anyone
September 26th, 2021 at 4:42 PM ^
This is not something that is common knowledge-that the casual fan knows. It takes a measure of luck...and an inside line to find these guys. But they are out there.
September 26th, 2021 at 12:36 PM ^
Hire Greg Schiano. I can't imagine how much better our program would have been over the last decade + had he taken the job when Lloyd retired. Incredible what he has done with Rutgers in such a short period of time. With the talent they have, his team passes the eye test. Solid D, dynamic offense, great fundamentals. Hell of a coach.
September 26th, 2021 at 2:13 PM ^
I tend to be one of those "Jim is pretty good and he's one of ours so I root for him and I don't see anyone obvious waiting in the wings" wishy washy types. But color me unimpressed with Greg Schiano.
September 26th, 2021 at 3:55 PM ^
Well we hired a supposed offensive genius and QB whisperer that looks like an idiot so....
How about stop being scared of the unknown and maybe realize there's somebody else out there smart enough to realize not to slam into a stacked box over and over and can probably win one game as an underdog in seven years.
We give names all the time and the excuse is either "He wont come here" or "well his record is mediocre", well no shit, theyre coaching at a school with less resources than Michigan, who is already mediocre to okay at best with who they have!
September 26th, 2021 at 5:55 PM ^
switch26,
for everyone who asks “who is gonna take us farther?”
did you assume Jim Tressell was going to step right in at Ohio State, from Youngstown State, and take them to a National Championship? Did you look at his career arc and go, “he’ll definitely own a coach like Carr who has already won it all and done great against OSU!”
If Harbaugh’s family and career were Ohio State instead of Michigan, and he was their incredible hire in 2015 instead of Michigan’s: when do you think they would have fired him? When do you think they would have demoted Don Brown?
Ohio State will continue to dump 10 win-but-not enough championship coaches like Cooper and Earl Bruce left and right. The result: the program’s championship success speaks for itself.
September 25th, 2021 at 7:45 PM ^
Why does Harbaugh get a complete pass from you? Is he not the one who hired Gattis after one fucking phone call?
First it was Drevo's fault, then it was Hamilton's fault, now it's Gattis's fault. Could never be the guy who hired them.
September 25th, 2021 at 7:46 PM ^
I'm beginning to think that Gattis is a fraud.... The Speed in space thing was marketing.
September 26th, 2021 at 6:26 AM ^
Ask Mike Locksley....
September 26th, 2021 at 9:02 AM ^
Of course it was marketing, but at the same time, what has Harbaugh done during his collegiate coaching career that suggests he wants to do anything offensively that is not centered around the philosophy of running the ball with the backs and rarely the QB and 'protecting the defense' by limiting snaps?
I am not inside the fort, so I have no idea what's going on. But at the same time the Harbaugh tenure and this program have struggled with the same underlying issue for going on roughly 17 years: Michigan looks clueless against teams that least have a good enough defense to limit our running game because we have not been able to effectively throw the ball against good pass defenses or we refuse to use tempo or most modern passing concepts against teams with lesser talent that are totally selling out against the run because we double down on trying to shove the ball down their throat (Air Force 2017, Army 2019, Rutgers last night, etc).
Last night proved most of us right that felt Michigan should have been throwing the ball with our starters 25+ against Western and NIU. Harbaugh has proved time and time again that we can shove the ball down the throat of equal or lesser talented teams he looks like one of the best coaches in the country. However, when he can't, a train wreck happens. Yet, when we get two total tomato cans at home, the coaches did not take the opportunity to work on things offensively that have plagued this program for years.
I guess when it boils down to it, you and anyone else is going to need to decide if Drevno was a fraud, if Pep was a fraud or if Gattis is a fraud too. Hey, maybe that's true. If so, what does it say about a head coach hiring 3 frauds for offensive coordinator in a row?
September 26th, 2021 at 3:08 PM ^
The only thing last night proved to me was that we should've been running to the outside with Corum and jet sweeps until they stopped stacking the box. Yes, our QB got rattled or something, but this was indeed a game that could've easily been won by using the edge-running plays we know we have.
September 26th, 2021 at 9:24 PM ^
Good defenses are gonna stop jet sweeps cold. Michigan takes too long to execute such plays. Happens every year.
September 25th, 2021 at 7:49 PM ^
When Rich Rodriguez left West Virginia and Bill Stewart replaced him, a West Virginia booster said said that Michigan got the architect and we got the painter. While Rodriguez didn't pan out overall at Michigan, the offenses were creative and put up points. (The defense was another story).
I feel the same way about Joe Moorhead and Josh Gattis. Someone else got the architect and we got the painter.
Joe Moorhead is the brand new OC at Oregon and they already beat Ohio State.
September 26th, 2021 at 12:33 AM ^
This RR offense stuff is nonsense. They just beat up cupcakes, same as with the current staff.
September 25th, 2021 at 7:59 PM ^
Jim's "track record" is pretty dated at this point.
September 25th, 2021 at 8:40 PM ^
McNamara was off “today”… lol
September 25th, 2021 at 10:25 PM ^
Our clock management on offense sucks ass. It starts and stops with JMFH.
September 26th, 2021 at 8:40 PM ^
Sums up my thoughts pretty well. I was begging to myself for him to just take back the offense.
September 25th, 2021 at 7:30 PM ^
Plus one to you. The changes made during last off season was an upgrade. Bottom line.....Jim Harbaugh cannot take this program to an elite level. I predicted 6-6 at the start of the season. I will stay with my 6-6 prediction. This program needs way more talent than is being brought in. This program is no better today than when Jim was hired.
September 26th, 2021 at 1:00 AM ^
I bet you $100 that Michigan finishes better than 6-6 -- you accept?
September 25th, 2021 at 9:07 PM ^
Yeah, he gets put in and is the next savior just like Cade, Milton, Patterson, Peters, and O'Korn were then Harbaugh ruins him.
September 25th, 2021 at 7:30 PM ^
Bwaaahaha! You probably go a kick out of this just like you are watching the train wreck that has become American foreign policy. It must be good to be a supervillain.
September 25th, 2021 at 8:58 PM ^
Nah
He just found his niche here and he is in love with himself
September 25th, 2021 at 6:58 PM ^
This remains a average at best coaching staff.
September 25th, 2021 at 6:58 PM ^
Through his tenure Harbaugh has been a play to win against scrubs and a play to not lose against good teams. This has cost him his ability, his reputation, and likely millions of dollars. Can't win scared.
September 25th, 2021 at 7:12 PM ^
Harbaugh is a talented coach. Can’t look at his resume and not come to this conclusion. He also seems unbelievably stubborn.
Why you continue to run the ball up the middle over and over and over I don’t understand. Can you not run a pitch outside? Cade didn’t help with missing some automatic throws tonight.
Unless he isn’t showing certain plays, this team is gonna have its hands full in the middle and tail end of the schedule.
September 25th, 2021 at 7:15 PM ^
I agree. He's a talented coach when he's not under pressure. When he feels any pressure, he sabotages himself.
September 25th, 2021 at 7:28 PM ^
Unless he isn’t showing certain plays
After 6 years of saying this, I promise there aren’t ‘plays we are saving for later’ against good teams. The offense is underwhelming during Harbaugh’s entire tenure. It’s playing not to lose.
September 25th, 2021 at 8:00 PM ^
That stubbornness is why his brother John is the better coach and why he bails out his little brother year after year with coaching recommendations. Look what he did in Baltimore with Lamar Jackson; Jim used to be like that...who knows what happened.
September 25th, 2021 at 8:07 PM ^
You really can't say this anymore. Literally nobody wanted him in the NFL last offseason so he comes back here at half his salary. Looking at the past is definitely a Michigan tradition.
September 25th, 2021 at 8:27 PM ^
Harbaugh is a talented offensive coach when running his system - what he ran at Stanford, San Francisco, and first couple years at Michigan.
September 25th, 2021 at 10:16 PM ^
....and that has gotten us FUCKING NOTHING!!!
September 26th, 2021 at 2:53 AM ^
Then when tf is he is going to implement his system? His offense underwhelm year after year. Blame the OCs all you want, he's the HC and it's his fault he can't implement his offense
