Risk Day 21 - East Coast! West Coast! Let's Keep The Party Going!

Submitted by Michigan CFB R… on April 13th, 2020 at 11:09 AM

You guys are amazing. We asked you to step up to the plate, and step up you did! We are now tied for the most territories in the game. More importantly, though, our player count continues to rise and our power continues to pace the field (though OSU still leads in player count, which is NOT cool....let's fix that. Ok? Ok.). And that strength has allowed us to go from simply being an annoyance for Ohio State on the east coast to having control over most of the Mid-Atlantic, giving us significant presences on both coasts. Impressive!

But we can't stop there. Risk is about dominance, and dominance requires smarts and perseverance. We have the smarts taken care of with some math / programming geniuses giving out strategic assignments through MichiganCFBRisk.com, but we need YOU for the perseverance. As mentioned, the easiest way to accumulate power in this game is to play every-single-day. It doesn't take very long, but it is so hugely helpful. We did it last year when we became known for having a flood of new recruits on a regular basis, and now it's time to show that we can do it again. So keep visiting MichiganCFBRisk.com. Keep putting in your moves. And let's keep the good times rolling! Go Blue!

I attempted to post a PDF of easy-to-read instructions with hyperlinks, but it seems like it just attached as a file and doesn't appear with the body of the post.

Anyways, we really appreciate the continued support on here. We all know that no one is getting any work done today and everyone is sitting around waiting for the "Hello: Josh Christopher" post. In the meantime you can create a reddit account and put your first ever college football risk move in.

I learned the hard way that the streak star counter does not keep your longest streak, but reverts back to your current streak.

Went from being 3 star to 1 star from missing one day. I'll get back to it from here on out, but wanted people to know (in case they didn't already) that you can't miss a day or you revert stars.

I have 4 stars for Total turns (69) and Streak (10)... Waiting to get my 4th star on Round Turns (im at 19, so hopefully its soon)

I've basically given up on adding stars in the other two categories. I don't use reddit and I have played almost every turn both seasons so far and never gotten MVP....

How do I earn stars?

There are two types of star ratings. The most important is your overall star rating, which is what determines how many points you contribute in attack or defense. The second consists of your star rating in five sub-categories. Your overall star rating is the MEDIAN star rating you have achieved in the five sub-categories. For example, if you sub-category star ratings break down as 5/1/2/3/3, your overall star rating would be the median value of 3. Here are the five sub-categories and criteria for each:

  • Total turns played across all rounds of College Football Risk (including the reddit version)
    • One star - 0 total turns played
    • Two stars - 10 total turns played
    • Three stars - 25 total turns played
    • Four stars - 50 total turns played
    • Five stars - 100 total turns played
  • Turns played during the current round of College Football Risk
    • One star - 0 turns played this round
    • Two stars - 5 turns played this round
    • Three stars - 10 turns played this round
    • Four stars - 25 turns played this round
    • Five stars - 40 turns played this round
  • Number of MVPs awarded
    • One star - 0 MVPs
    • Two stars - 1 MVP
    • Three stars - 5 MVPs
    • Four stars - 10 MVPs
    • Five stars - 25 MVPs
  • Streak of consecutive turns played
    • One star - 0 consecutive turns played
    • Two stars - 3 consecutive turns played
    • Three stars - 5 consecutive turns played
    • Four stars - 10 consecutive turns played
    • Five stars - 25 consecutive turns played
  • Awards on r/CFB
    • One star - 0 r/CFB awards
    • Two stars - 1 r/CFB awards
    • Three stars - 2 r/CFB awards
    • Four stars - 3 r/CFB awards
    • Five stars - 4 r/CFB awards

Can we just crush Stanford already?  They have 42 players and 268 star power spread over 4 territories.  Regain some protected territories and push east.  Take their land...and their freedom!

Yesterday we abutted 3 Stanford territories, while they abutted 5 of ours, so we were fighting them in a total of 8 territories.  If we were an 80% chance to win each of those 8 territories we would only be expected to do so roughly 16.8% of the time.  For us to have a greater than 50% chance of winning all of the territories our likelihood of winning each would need to be a little over 91.7%.

In other words, it's very unlikely we will be able to eliminate Stanford from the West Coast unless we can convince them to direct their focus elsewhere.

I think that the gamesmakers should provide a power boost to teams who eliminate a team. The game only progresses when teams lose completely. Incentivize teams to go all in and knock someone out which would allow us to really throw all of our weight against Stanford instead of worrying about losing other territories.

Just out of curiosity - how do the orders gets determined?  Is this in the discord / programming genius' code? Don't disclose any of the strategy but curious who my commanders are.

There are a few different groups that play into it. There's the strategy squad, which is mostly a bunch of people who can barely math, but who decide which territories are most important for today.

Then there is the nerd squad, who the strategy squad gives the priorities for the day, and they do their nerd thing and say, "You need x stars on y territory."

Strategy squad then puts their numbers into the assignment site and the site automatically distributes people based on the numbers input. Once quotas are full, they can be adjusted. So if we have a bunch of players early in the day, strategy squad decides, "Let's bump up stars on y territory."

Can Chaos just attack anywhere ? Even if they are not bordering anything? How did they get the mountain west territories when they only had a few in the Mid-West/East Coast?

Chaos had access to (and won) Wyoming because they held ISU the day prior.  Prior to taking ISU, they held Iowa.  Prior to that, Mizzou.  And so on.

The CFB Risk main page has a link to past maps.

I have always disliked RISK, but this is different.  I didn't have to think.  I didn't have to roll the dice.  I didn't have to move little pieces of plastic.  I didn't have to do anything but create a reddit account (so easy even a caveman can do it) and then I took my assignments.  Yesterday I defended UCLA, today I attacked ****** (name hidden to prevent spies from knowing our strategems)!  Come on guys, let's pull it together and kick some buckeye nuts!

In the spirit of that I watched the Clemson Ohio playoff game yesterday.  So nice to see them lose (again).  I know it's sad not to have any DVR'ed Michigan victories over them, but someday I will!
