Risk Day 16 - We've Painted The Golden Coast Its Proper Color. But Apparently RNG Decided That Nevada Needed To Live Up To Its Moniker, Too

Submitted by Michigan CFB R… on April 7th, 2020 at 11:24 AM

So we got some better rolls last night (i.e. not the atrocity of Day 14). But it really seems like RNG is having a fun time messing with us. We managed to secure essentially all of California, so now the Golden Coast State is...well....Gold (close enough at least). But on the same turn, OSU manages to take all of Nevada (just a 7.5% chance of that happening). So now the Silver States is...well...Silver (again, close enough).

Obviously Risk RNG is not actually sentient, but are we sure its programmer isn't from Columbus or something? Somebody do a background check.

Inane, color-coded conspiracy theories aside, we're definitely bouncing back thanks to you guys. BUT WE HAVE TO KEEP PUSHING. Ohio State is closing the gap in star power, and TAM got a BIG recruiting bump last night. So keep telling your friends to sign up and keep going to MichiganCFBRisk.com (and @cfb_risk) every day.

Yes, this is a silly game without a clear end game, and yes we're HUGE nerds for putting this much time and effort into it, but isn't any opportunity to beat OSU a good one? I say yes! So let's do it!

Steps To Play Every Day:

  1. Sign up for a reddit.com account if you don’t have one already
  2. Visit collegefootballrisk.com – Click Sign in with Reddit – Select Michigan as your team
  3. Visit https://michigancfbrisk.com/ - click “Login using Reddit” – Click “Get an Assignment”

For new players (like me) the bottleneck for more star power seems to be "Total turns played across all rounds". I've played every day since the beginning of this year's game and I won't get 3 stars until that total hits 25.

Of course, you can do better if you get the MVPs or the CFB subreddit awards but I don't know what the former is and I don't use that subreddit at all.

FYI: https://collegefootballrisk.com/help

it takes the median star rating of total turns, turns this round, streak, MVP, and Awards.

MVP is randomly assigned every turn.

Awards are based on r/cfb subreddit events, contests, wiki contributions, etc.

Easiest ones to control are turns and streak. I have 4* for total turns (across all seasons/rounds) and streak (11), 3 stars for turns this round (13), and 1 star for the others (0 for both). I have to wait until I hit 25 total turns this round to be a 4*.

Total turns, turns this round, streak, and MVP are all pretty closely linked to one another. The only way to get mvp is to play a lot of turns, since it’s random.  Not sure if that’s the best system but I don’t have any alternative ideas.

Quick answer: no and no.

Diplomacy is ever changing in this game and very sensitive. If you join the Discord (are are vetted), you'll get a good amount of information, but even there the mods make it very clear that things are ever-evolving. For instance, Texas A&M was looking like an ally....until they weren't.

That said, we are definitely NOT on our own. We have allies and NAPs, and those can change on a dime. But we're in a good position.

Are we cool with GT? I'm going after them if not. I've been trying to get vetted but it's not going through.. I got kicked out season 1 for arguing and deserved it but damn those mods are holding a serious grudge.  I'm gonna have 4 stars in 8 days and 5 stars in May, I'm ready to whoop ass!

Sorry for arguing Scar! Let a brother back in.

Can we ally with GT? It seems like we have mutual interests, and if we combine our forces, and stay friendly with Wisconsin, then we should be able to wipe out Oklahoma, Clemson, Alabama, Stanford, and possibly Nebraska.

Whoever is in charge for us should reach out to GT.

You wouldn't think that one could get invested in something that takes about 4 minutes a day, but I was surprisingly pissed off when I forgot to make a move on sunday and lost a star.

It would seem that the Michigan side needs a new coordinator unless the strategy is to expose as many territories to as many enemies as possible.  Given the fact that we have the most star power with the least to show for it tells you that we have found the one guy at Michigan dumber than a Buckeye.

Even the season 1 dumb strategy looks better than this one.

I'll give you a tip, look at the map and figure out the what area can be defended with the fewest territories exposed and head there with the full power at your disposal and then expand from there.  Even a Buckeye seems to know that much.
