Request for the MGoBoard
Our basketball team, as you may have noticed, is very good. Unfortunately far too many of us are treating it like the rebound girl/guy that we start dating after our big crush (football) broke our heart. Threads about basketball degenerate into rants about how the football program is the suckiest bunch of sucks that ever sucked.
If you follow the basketball program (which you should) just enjoy this right now. We're coming off our second national title appearance in five years and could well make another this year. Don't use their success to break out your BPONE for other sports. Or at least do that in a thread about football.

The OP has to be a millennial.

How can you say this when our football program is such a disaster (that did, however, drop 39 on OSU, should keep Pep, should not run a gimmick offense, should start beating rivals and is not performing to my expectations) - did I hit them all?
J/k
Even though I was one of the posters who was admittedly drawn into the football discussions in one of the threads currently on the board, I actually agree with this premise. There is nothing wrong with having the threads discussing these various football items, but there really is no need to do it in the basketball threads.

YOU DON'T CONTROL ME, DAD.
November 30th, 2018 at 12:41 PM ^
Shouldn't you be breaking down film on plays that went wrong against OSU? We're waiting, man.
November 30th, 2018 at 1:00 PM ^
Too many plays to choose from...
November 30th, 2018 at 4:09 PM ^
I like it when people say “I broke down film”, especially when it comes to “evaluating “ o-line recruits or the like.
November 30th, 2018 at 2:48 PM ^
YOU'RE NOT MY REAL DAD!
November 30th, 2018 at 12:16 PM ^
WHY DONT YOU GO BACK TO YOUR HOME ON WHORE ISLAND
November 30th, 2018 at 12:23 PM ^
It's more of a summer home...
November 30th, 2018 at 12:19 PM ^
You new here?
November 30th, 2018 at 12:19 PM ^
I have too much Ellerbe and Amaker in my past to fully expel the BPONE in my MBall fandom, but I'm getting really, really close. This is the golden age, and I shall bask in it.
November 30th, 2018 at 12:44 PM ^
I had to live through both Ellerbe and Amaker in my time at Michigan. Dark times, man. Dark times.
November 30th, 2018 at 1:05 PM ^
Like, literally dark. I don't think Crisler was adequately lit at the time.
November 30th, 2018 at 1:37 PM ^
it had all the glow of a 1950's-built high-school second gymnasium's lights attempting to gain power.
November 30th, 2018 at 1:47 PM ^
The joke basically went
"What's the difference between Crisler and the Washtenaw County Morgue?"
"The morgue is better lit."
November 30th, 2018 at 3:33 PM ^
I feel for you, man. I was there at the high, partying and kissing strange girls in 1989 for the Final 4 and Championship wins. I can't imagine how tough it was in the Dark Ages.
November 30th, 2018 at 7:16 PM ^
I was there when the Fab Five were there, good times...
November 30th, 2018 at 2:53 PM ^
You really should bask in it. This is definitely the golden age of Michigan basketball with our best coach ever. Enjoy every minute of it. The program is back to its elite status in college basketball, having won regular season Big Ten titles, 2 Big Ten tournament championships, and been in 2 NCAA finals in the last 6 years. The only thing missing under Beilein is a NC. And I wouldn't be surprised if he picks one of those up before he's done.
November 30th, 2018 at 12:20 PM ^
Michigan football is the hot girl/guy in class that flirts with you every day, kisses you on the cheek but when you ask her/him out she/he says "but we are such great friends I dont wanna ruin it"
Meanwhile, the Basketball team is the nerdy ok looking chick/guy with the 4.0 and degree in Neuroscience who has a banging body under their JC Penney cardigan.
One is a mirage and one is real right now..
November 30th, 2018 at 12:30 PM ^
What the hell is wrong with JC Penny cardigans???
November 30th, 2018 at 12:32 PM ^
Nothing, Beilein loves them, and subs and brutally destroying Blue Bloods
November 30th, 2018 at 1:14 PM ^
Especially when they're paired with my corduroys with the elastic waistband from Sears.

Yes, his head DOES look like a 3-balled scrotum.
It's ok, we're all thinking it.

"But don't you remember that one year back in '97 when we didn't lose any games? Harbaugh needs to do that. Why can't it be like that every year?"
This fanbase can be really annoying. We all lived through the debacle that was Rich Rod and Hoke. Now we're back to winning 10 games a year and the goal posts just keep moving. Harbaugh has to beat OSU. Ok fine - if he does but loses to STAEE or some other stupid team during the year, we're unhappy. If he beats everyone but OSU, we're unhappy. If we're not Alabama, we're unhappy. I wouldn't want to coach this team because either we're undefeated or we're a basketball school. Whatever.
November 30th, 2018 at 12:29 PM ^
Ah, losing by 23 and getting consistently out-coached in the biggest game of the year is what makes us unhappy most recently. Going 10-2 and using our talent to its fullest extent would have alleviated most of what you're bitching about.
November 30th, 2018 at 12:36 PM ^
consistent (cahn-sis-tint, n.) - adv. consistently - Happening one out of the last three occasions.
Makes sense to me.
November 30th, 2018 at 12:33 PM ^
Well said. I agree. I just wish we would have beaten Ohio St
November 30th, 2018 at 12:35 PM ^
Unfortunately, there isn't really an effective way to monitor all that from a moderation standpoint unless we're going to read every thread and figure out some criteria for limiting drift in the discussion. I will say, however, that those threads are an interesting study into the inner workings of the Michigan fan, and I say that as a participant in a few of said discussions recently.
November 30th, 2018 at 12:37 PM ^
An "alert the moderators to this post" button would likely help wonders with that. It's a lot easier to click a little button that says "come check this out" than it is to pull up the sticky and put a link into it.
November 30th, 2018 at 1:30 PM ^
good heavens, can you imagine how many 'alerts' the poor bastards would get? i wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy.
November 30th, 2018 at 1:34 PM ^
An "alert the moderators to this post" button would likely help wonders with that
I'm guessing with all the group think in here that will go well.
I'm also willing to wager a week's salary that the number of threads to the number of threads which have an "alert" pending is 1 : 1.
Which completely does not solve:
unless we're going to read every thread
November 30th, 2018 at 12:38 PM ^
I think this a valid request. Michigan Basketball deserves it.
PS: Sooooo glad I made it to the game Wednesday, so much fun!

November 30th, 2018 at 12:42 PM ^
Is Pep gone yet?!?!
Am I doing this right?
November 30th, 2018 at 12:44 PM ^
Well, yeah. The truth is that Michigan basketball has been an independently sufficient reason to be a Michigan fan for many years now. Not sure this is year is going to be the highlight reel that was '12-'13, but it is going to be fun, especially if Jordan Poole develops consistency to his game.
In '12-'13 you just knew, with all that soon-to-be NBA talent, every night was a talent show. I half expected the last three Michigan teams to regress to the mean at every turn, but they just got better.
November 30th, 2018 at 12:47 PM ^
I won't be able to enjoy anything until we pound the fuck out of whomever we play in the bowl game.
If we shit the bed in that one too, 2019 is going to be a long year.
November 30th, 2018 at 1:07 PM ^
It's Florida man we're good.
November 30th, 2018 at 1:21 PM ^
I'll be pretty damn happy if it's Florida. I didn't understand everyone complaining about that match-up. They're our SEC bitches, and the team needs a win.
November 30th, 2018 at 8:57 PM ^
Eh, bowl games ain't what it used to be. It's a glorified exhibition game that counted towards their record/stats. A bunch of 1st rounders are sitting out because they're not risking injuries like Jaylon Smith did when he tore up his knee against OSU in Fiesta Bowl.
November 30th, 2018 at 12:52 PM ^
I'm with you, OP, but there is just no easy way to control it. Banning the troll accounts helps, but there's also so many genuine fan-brains processing a lot of garbage right now. HOT takes all around.
The WTKA hosts have had a fun week.
Even former players have the hottest of takes. Heard Navarre on the radio saying that OSU "wanted it more". Brain processing garbage. Damn whenever I think I no longer have a heart, it breaks. Pretty sure our team wanted that game very badly.
November 30th, 2018 at 1:08 PM ^
Uh oh, Navarre is gonna find his way out of the circle of trust like Braylon and Marcus
