Report: Rucker Reinstated to MSU Team
Now before this gets out of hand, this does not necessarily mean he will play but, rather, that he is likely free to practice, travel and suit up on Saturday. The Ticket is currently melting down with Spartan fans calling in yelling Stonum so I figured the post should be created with the caveat above before Michigan fans begin muddying the issue.
Edit: Dantonio on Chris L playing on Saturday
"That's up to Rucker - there's risk involved."
Likely referring to the possibility of injury, not knowing the scheme but... alluding to the fact he's not necessarily being held out via disciplinary reasons
[FA Edit: Rather than trying to moderate every response to the troll(s), I'm just locking this thread. It's MSU news anyways, so it's not really important. I tried deleting several, but some comments worth saving were being deleted, too.]

Oh wow, burn a couch. That 34-17 slaughter must be really embarrassing for you. How does it feel to know that Dantonio has just as many B10 wins at the big house as RR? Hurts doesn't it? Such a great hire (for MSU)!
October 28th, 2010 at 8:38 PM ^
Just like your phys ed majors on your team. LOL
Sparty talking about academics. How cute.
October 28th, 2010 at 8:49 PM ^
scUM resorting to digs about education because their athletic department is a joke. How cute...
October 28th, 2010 at 7:48 PM ^
that program has established enough of a portfolio the last few years to earn legitimate moral outrage, no matter your allegiance. At this point the Spartans have put in so much work that they could have their own episode of "Gangland." If you're using terms like "probation violations," the guy should probably take a seat on the pine. Dantonio learned as much from Glen Winston as he learned in class: absolutely nothing.
October 28th, 2010 at 7:50 PM ^
Stonum and probation violation are used in the same sentence all the time. When did he sit on the pine?
October 28th, 2010 at 8:07 PM ^
Stonum's probation violation was for not showing up for some tests. He got some Barwis barf sessions or something for that along with his three days in jail. He was suspended a game and a half for the original DUI.
Rucker's probation violation was for DUI, a crime apart from the fact that he was on probation. He pled it down to reckless driving, but he was operating a car while over the legal limit of BAC. It's still a DUI.
October 28th, 2010 at 8:29 PM ^
And Rucker sat two games for it. How many did Stonum sit for his probation violation again?
October 28th, 2010 at 8:43 PM ^
Hmmm lets compare the two probation violations since you are a sparty and lack the ability of logic and reasoning.
DUI or failing to show up your appointment to piss in a cup.....Hmmmmmm....which one has the ability to put the general public in harm....
If Dantonio had a backbone or a sense or morals then Rucker would be kicked off the team just like the gang leader Winstone. However, he doesn't have any sense of basic moral codes. You deserve Dantonio. Congrats on being the new Miami (Fl).
October 28th, 2010 at 8:51 PM ^
It was reckless driving and Stonum avoided pissing in a cup so he could go get wasted with all his thug buddies.
October 28th, 2010 at 7:57 PM ^
Uh, I know for a fact right off the top of my head that both Grady and Stonum were suspended. I have no idea on Ezeh but that incident occurred in 2007 under the previous staff.
October 28th, 2010 at 8:04 PM ^
What were they suspended from? Not games, which is kinda the point.
October 28th, 2010 at 8:15 PM ^
Well, these can't count as facts because they're inconvenient.
October 28th, 2010 at 9:23 PM ^
Of course not, facts aren't facts if they're inconvenient. They degrade down to written opinions by a reputable source with actually knowledge of the situation.
"Damnit! I want facts!"
October 28th, 2010 at 7:38 PM ^
I guess you haven't seen Urban Meyer down at Florida, multiple championships and 26 arrests on his time on campus.
October 28th, 2010 at 9:49 PM ^
Urban Meyer.
[Edit]: Damn, beaten to the punch.
October 28th, 2010 at 6:54 PM ^
My ass. Looking forward to the reasoning.
October 28th, 2010 at 6:59 PM ^
on Sat., Dantonio ends up looking like the jackass that he is.
October 28th, 2010 at 7:55 PM ^
Why? Rucker sat out two games for a DUI and probation violation. That's pretty standard and Stonum didn't miss a quarter for his violation...
October 28th, 2010 at 8:01 PM ^
He didn't "sit out" for two games. He was in JAIL and wasn't allowed to be a part of society. So yes, I guess he "sat out" as a byproduct of being incarcerated.
October 28th, 2010 at 8:45 PM ^
^^Winner^^
the exact same reason for Winston's reinstatement.
October 28th, 2010 at 8:52 PM ^
He was not in jail for two weeks...
October 28th, 2010 at 7:54 PM ^
Ignorance. When Dantonio made the comment about zero tolerance he was referring to Winston and Jenerette. A few months later when the other players were finishing their hearings Dantonio was quoted as saying each player will be evaluated on a case by case level. No where did he ever say that his policy was to have zero tolerance on all second offenders regardless of the situation. No coach in America would act under those terms. Not even your beloved RR and his sparkling record regarding player arrests...
That last part was sarcasm btw...
October 28th, 2010 at 7:58 PM ^
Take it easy, buddy.
Just keep repeating:
"My coach is not a hypocritical douche-bag"
"The team is not a bunch of thugs"
You'll believe it in time. Don't worry
October 28th, 2010 at 8:07 PM ^
Yeah we have had our arrests. However, Rodriguez has kicked kids off the team like Cissoko and Feagin. Both of which were after first offenses, btw.
The other two were alcohol related offenses that did not involve an accident. Grady was passed out in his car. Also, neither player had a prior record.
Rodriguez's policy is as close to zero tolerance as you will find in the state of Michigan and RR is clearly more of a disciplinarian than Dantonio is.
October 28th, 2010 at 8:32 PM ^
You know, it's not really hard to kick someone off the team when they are convicted drug dealers...
October 28th, 2010 at 8:46 PM ^
or smashing a hockey players head into the ground....oh wait...Winston's suspension was jail time.
October 28th, 2010 at 8:53 PM ^
He hit the kid once. You act like he was curb stomping him...
October 28th, 2010 at 6:54 PM ^
"That's up to Rucker - there's risk involved."
Likely referring to the possibility of an injury occurring due to being out of practices, not knowing the scheme but... alluding to the fact he's not necessarily being held out via disciplinary reasons
October 28th, 2010 at 6:58 PM ^
Because he'll be too drunk and stumbling around on the field?
I'm sorry, that was a poor attempt. I wish I had something better. Ski masks! No, that's been done. Okay, nevermind. Carry on.
October 28th, 2010 at 7:03 PM ^
Why is Dantonio trying to be coy about this? How would it be "up to Rucker" if he has an injury?
October 28th, 2010 at 7:07 PM ^
Maybe Rucker really likes jail and might want to hang out there a bit longer and play for the Mean Machine instead of Sparty.
October 28th, 2010 at 7:22 PM ^
i meant that a player who has been out of practice for a couple weeks might not have the muscle flexibility/physical preparation to avoid injury. i hope that makes more sense
October 28th, 2010 at 6:56 PM ^
Zero tolerance for those on probation, eh?
October 28th, 2010 at 7:56 PM ^
Can you provide a quote from Dantonio that supports this claim with a cite please? TIA!
October 28th, 2010 at 8:48 PM ^
Don't need a quote we have your dorm room beatdowns, Winston, and now Ruckers. Get a murder in their and then you will replace Miami (Fl) as thug U. Maybe you can get Snoop Dogg to follow your team.
October 28th, 2010 at 8:54 PM ^
One player does not make a school "thug U". Oh and your beloved school has more DUI arrests then MSU over the last 4 years......................
October 28th, 2010 at 6:57 PM ^
"This is UNBELIEVABLE!" I thought he was looking at a number of weeks in jail. This is completely different from anything I can remember because his PO asked for it suggesting that jail is where he needs to be (at least in the short term).
October 28th, 2010 at 6:58 PM ^
I know this is from the Freep, but please read the print version. The whole incident is released and I'm shocked at the details.
Not only does he get into an accident, but he drives away from said accident before being pulled over. Fled scene of accident, nice.
http://www.freep.com/article/20101028/SPORTS07/10280573/1055/SPORTS07/O…
The guy he hit was also drunk.
He got pulled over and forgot the months of March and April in a sobriety test.
The guy he hit wanted to "pay" to let Rucker go free and not sent to jail
Rucker admitted that he would likely lose his scholarship b/c of this.
And it goes on and on. Jeebus, how is he reinstated?
October 28th, 2010 at 7:07 PM ^
Well that's not really fair. He probably didn't know those were months anyway.
October 28th, 2010 at 6:58 PM ^
No more third chances*
*does not apply if you are a starter, in which case welcome back to the team straight from jail
Seriously, I know 1 game is pretty par for the course for a player getting a DUI, but that's for players who are not already on probation for a group beating.
October 28th, 2010 at 6:58 PM ^
But I really like State's "Zero tolerance... after the first strike. Or after the second strike if it really isn't a big deal and the cop was just being a dick. And possibly after the third strike if you feel really REALLY bad about it. Though some exceptions will be made for fourth strikes if we're really thin at corner. But that's IT. After that, no tolerance. Probably" policy.
Tough, but fair.
October 28th, 2010 at 6:59 PM ^
This is very different from the Stonum case. Stonum wasn't on probation for a felony at the time. This is egregious and not at all surprising.
October 28th, 2010 at 7:37 PM ^
neither was Rucker. let's stay within the fact pattern. assault is a misdemeanor.
October 28th, 2010 at 7:40 PM ^
I think the real differences between the two instances are 1) that Rucker's initial crime was a crime of violence, and 2) that Stonum violated probation by not fully completing community service (or something ancillary like that) whereas Rucker violated probation by committing another separate crime and a probation violation.
October 28th, 2010 at 7:59 PM ^
Rucker didn't hit anyone. His "crime" was NOT violant. He made a poor decision, that's all.
October 28th, 2010 at 8:07 PM ^
Youe're speling rulez!
October 28th, 2010 at 8:10 PM ^
Grammar natzi's rule! It's the internet buddy, not the nation spelling bee...
