Report: Rucker Reinstated to MSU Team

Submitted by Geaux_Blue on

Now before this gets out of hand, this does not necessarily mean he will play but, rather, that he is likely free to practice, travel and suit up on Saturday. The Ticket is currently melting down with Spartan fans calling in yelling Stonum so I figured the post should be created with the caveat above before Michigan fans begin muddying the issue.

Edit: Dantonio on Chris L playing on Saturday

"That's up to Rucker - there's risk involved."

Likely referring to the possibility of injury, not knowing the scheme but... alluding to the fact he's not necessarily being held out via disciplinary reasons

[FA Edit: Rather than trying to moderate every response to the troll(s), I'm just locking this thread. It's MSU news anyways, so it's not really important. I tried deleting several, but some comments worth saving were being deleted, too.]

that program has established enough of a portfolio the last few years to earn legitimate moral outrage, no matter your allegiance. At this point the Spartans have put in so much work that they could have their own episode of "Gangland." If you're using terms like "probation violations," the guy should probably take a seat on the pine. Dantonio learned as much from Glen Winston as he learned in class: absolutely nothing.

Stonum's probation violation was for not showing up for some tests.  He got some Barwis barf sessions or something for that along with his three days in jail.  He was suspended a game and a half for the original DUI.

Rucker's probation violation was for DUI, a crime apart from the fact that he was on probation.  He pled it down to reckless driving, but he was operating a car while over the legal limit of BAC.  It's still a DUI.

Hmmm lets compare the two probation violations since you are a sparty and lack the ability of logic and reasoning.

DUI or failing to show up your appointment to piss in a cup.....Hmmmmmm....which one has the ability to put the general public in harm....

If Dantonio had a backbone or a sense or morals then Rucker would be kicked off the team just like the gang leader Winstone. However, he doesn't have any sense of basic moral codes. You deserve Dantonio. Congrats on being the new Miami (Fl).

Ignorance. When Dantonio made the comment about zero tolerance he was referring to Winston and Jenerette. A few months later when the other players were finishing their hearings Dantonio was quoted as saying each player will be evaluated on a case by case level. No where did he ever say that his policy was to have zero tolerance on all second offenders regardless of the situation. No coach in America would act under those terms. Not even your beloved RR and his sparkling record regarding player arrests...

That last part was sarcasm btw...

Yeah we have had our arrests. However, Rodriguez has kicked kids off the team like Cissoko and Feagin. Both of which were after first offenses, btw.

The other two were alcohol related offenses that did not involve an accident. Grady was passed out in his car. Also, neither player had a prior record.

Rodriguez's policy is as close to zero tolerance as you will find in the state of Michigan and RR is clearly more of a disciplinarian than Dantonio is.

"This is UNBELIEVABLE!" I thought he was looking at a number of weeks in jail. This is completely different from anything I can remember because his PO asked for it suggesting that jail is where he needs to be (at least in the short term).

I know this is from the Freep, but please read the print version.  The whole incident is released and I'm shocked at the details.

Not only does he get into an accident, but he drives away from said accident before being pulled over.  Fled scene of accident, nice.

The guy he hit was also drunk.

He got pulled over and forgot the months of March and April in a sobriety test.

The guy he hit wanted to "pay" to let Rucker go free and not sent to jail

Rucker admitted that he would likely lose his scholarship b/c of this.

And it goes on and on.   Jeebus, how is he reinstated?

No more third chances*

*does not apply if you are a starter, in which case welcome back to the team straight from jail

Seriously, I know 1 game is pretty par for the course for a player getting a DUI, but that's for  players who are not already on probation for a group beating.

But I really like State's "Zero tolerance... after the first strike.  Or after the second strike if it really isn't a big deal and the cop was just being a dick. And possibly after the third strike if you feel really REALLY bad about it. Though some exceptions will be made for fourth strikes if we're really thin at corner. But that's IT. After that, no tolerance. Probably" policy.

Tough, but fair.

I think the real differences between the two instances are 1) that Rucker's initial crime was a crime of violence, and 2) that Stonum violated probation by not fully completing community service (or something ancillary like that) whereas Rucker violated probation by committing another separate crime and a probation violation.
