Regents OK football performance center in Oosterbaan Field House
The $21 million project calls for a 32,000-square-foot performance center to be built within the 78,000 square-foot field house, which will be used for strength and conditioning training for the football program. The project also calls for the addition of a 5,000-square-foot mezzanine level.

Shouldn't they have mounted that on the other wall to allow the screen to pivot toward the toilet?

It looks as though it can fold either direction (many mounting arms do that).

about the glass door seems off to me.

But aren't we kind of far behind? And this doesn't seem to be NEARLY enough to keep up...
In September Florida announced a $100M facility upgrade that includes a standalone football complex.
Georgia just opened a new facilitie days ago after pouring $63M into it.
And those are considered "catch-up" attempts with Alabama and Texas A&M leading the way.

We already have a football complex (the Glick). The only thing needed was a larger, more modern weight room. I think $21 million is more than enough for that upgrade.

How does this compare to Bama, Oregon, OSU, or the Clemson facilities?

Should be easy to recruit this year. We just got 14 players drafted. We just went to a New Years 6 Bowl. We are taking the team to Italy. We are building the nation's best weight room. We just got Pep Hamilton from the NFL. Come to Michigan.

As long as there's room for a Dallas Cowboys-size tv screen in the facility.

a $21M gym? Didn't we already have a nice gym?
February 16th, 2017 at 5:28 PM ^
No. Our weight room is a big piece of shit currently.

Michigan
Alabama
This was a much needed upgrade. The last time they upgraded the weight room, Bill Martin was AD.

I actually half-suspect he is some mentally-ill homeless person that they caught screaming at their players and Saban just said, "You know what? Put a Bama shirt on him, toss him some protien bars every day, and call him Coach."

You got a problem with the Rose Bowl?
February 16th, 2017 at 5:38 PM ^
This is needed to keep up in the facilities arms race.

When you put our weight room next to Alabama's, ours is a flaming pile of dog doo.

loose that indoor facility though as many Spring sports get a lot of practice time in there before their season starts. , but I guess they are still leaving like 40,000 square feet of space they can still utilize.

It's an arms race that is all about recruiting, winning games, TV deals, high profile coaches, etc. which all lead to more money for the university. If other sports use the facilities, then it's not as appealing to recruits which eventually costs the university money. Almost every P5 football S&C facility is used primarily by football. An S&C facility is only one part of the arms race, but facilities absolutely affect recruiting, which affects profits.

A sport that has over 100 athletes and (probably) the most intense weight training needs. $21 million is nothing (especially if they are purchasing new equipment and renovating the building).

Maybe umbig11 can chime in more, but I think this is only phase 1 and another $14 million renovation is coming after this that they are still raising funds for.
Going to be interesting to see how they reshape Oosterbaan on the outside because currently it is a gigantic eyesore.
