“Harbaughed” is a legit good source though. Sure, most of the comments about it are pretty opinionated from the perspective of rivals, but I don’t know another place on the internet that has that information accumulated like that.

I guess I don’t hate that board as much as some because I used to chat with some of its members back on the ESPN boards a decade ago. A lot of ball-busting and self-deprecating humor by B1G fans in general. Two of the posters (Michigan fans) even got married and had a piece on ESPN. Despite the rest of those boards being absolute garbage, the B1G Lunch Links crew were a fun group. I was pretty bummed when they canned the boards.

Loyer isn’t talented enough to be on the starting 5 of any big ten team.  My conspiracy theory is that he is the long lost illegitimate son of Izzo which is why he’s on the team.  Watts could be good.  He’s got a nasty step back jumper when he makes it.  He really needs to transfer. Izzo is failing him.

I completely agree with them on that.

I doubt Loyer transfers until he gets his degree. He's a captain and he's getting more minutes than he would see most places. He gets a 5th year and can do a grad transfer. Watts coming back next season would surprise me. He could use a fresh start and plenty of decent programs would give him one.

Nothing other than just wild assumptions on my part (I pay as little attention as possible to the inner workings of spartie hoops) but after reading only the first page of that rcmb thread, the two things I come away with:

1) Since apparently Loyer has the goal of going into coaching and eventually replacing Tiny Tom, he won't be transferring anywhere and, if no longer playing, would likely become a spartie grad assistant. In other words, Izzo's "Foster child"

2) I need to disinfect.

Other high-level programs would at least give Watts a look; no P5 program would give Loyer a scholarship so it makes sense he'd stick with MSU.

It amazes me that Watts was a consensus top-40 prospect his year.  Like, he was considered a better prospect than Franz Wagner, Jalen Wilson, etc.  I know that MSU has been a bit of a tire fire and he's asked to do a lot, but the fact he can't seem to succeed as a PG or a SG is pretty surprising.

I think Watts will go elsewhere and succeed.

I mean would any of us expected to see Ibi Watson blossom into a 16 ppg scorer or a great second/third option to Toppen last year?

Watts is not a PG in the single way Izzo wants to use them. His misuse shows how Izzo can coach certain players and is so set in his ways that if guys don't match the preform mold he has in his head, they won't succeed. It's why so many high-end recruits stick around for 4 years in EL, they are just cogs in Izzo's machine and are not able to showcase or develop to the potential.

The funniest one is the guy claiming he's getting a great education for free, he must be studying cardboard box folding.

I was watching some of that game and was thinking how Loyer really sucks and couldn't wait to see him get abused against Michigan when we finally play their sorry asses!

no tears shed for the RCMB crowd or sparty getting crushed by 30 at home, but not a fan of jumping on a specific player like that.  they're still kids for the most part, and i don't like it when it's directed at our own guys either.  i get the jokes about loyer, but IIRC he was a pretty highly-rated PG.  better to take your ire out on tiny tom.

Agreed. Loyer led some really good Clarkston teams in scoring for four years and without a doubt the best shooter in HS I’ve ever seen in person.  Coach’s kid and played like it by being a leader on the court.

Would be interesting to see him join his brother at Purdue and see how he does with a fresh start.

Actually you are just getting a great example on how overrated Clarkston kids can be as individual players. System made the kids. The big kid who played with Loyer who was committed to Michigan then went to Wisconsin isn’t worth anything either. Add in Kither too I guess

Wasn't Loyer the one that won Mr Bball over David DeJulius?  Or was it Brandon Johns?  In either case, that was a hotly contested vote.  And also in either case, I'd still rather have both DeJulius and Johns over Loyer.  But hindsight isn't a fair thing on which to base an opinion before said hindsight can have a say...

Edit:  Yes, DDJ.  I should have kept reading, LOL!!  Note to self - read through the entire thread, and then go back and comment...

Good stuff.

I'm past my basketball prime by a good three decades, have had surgery on both knees, and still have a quicker first step than him. He might have the slowest feet of any starting PG I've ever seen in college basketball. He's absolutely no threat to do anything on the court.

David Dejulius, who was never going to do a lot at UM, absolutely torched Loyer a couple of times in high school.

A major, major recruiting miss for Izzo -- what was he thinking?

You also have to remember how Loyer earned his high rankings.  Thank you Michigan voters for Mr. Basketball.  There’s no way he was Mr. Basketball but it’s a prestigious award voted on by the press.  Needless to say, I’m glad he was overrated.  He couldn’t hold DDJ’s jockstrap.  I too, cannot wait until we play them again.  I love seeing him in the game.

Obviously a tough week for Tiny Tim Izzo. Would be nice to see Michigan crush MSU and make a deep run in the tournament. Playing MSU still terrifies me because I feel like they could upset any team in the conference. They aren’t good but they aren’t Nebraska level bad.

This is very funny from our perspective but it’s also super shitty on their part.  I don’t believe in ragging on college players unless they're dirty or don’t play hard.

There’s nothing wrong with genuine  critiques of their play, we do it here all the time, but that kind of mockery doesn’t sit well with me

My thoughts here are worth what you paid for them ??‍♂️

I'm not going off to read RCMB this morning, but I will add that we do partake in mockery of some of the kids that play for Michigan sports.  There are times when critiques go too far, and they're usually from the same set of posters (the more vitriol-ist of us).  We're not a pristine fanbase...
